IRS Chief Counsel Visited White House Several Times Between 2010 and 2012

by Kerry Picket

The Internal Revenue Service chief counsel William J. Wilkins was revealed by IRS witness Carter Hull at a House Oversight Committee hearing on July 18 as a senior official who would see Tea Party and other conservative organizations’ applications for tax exempt status.

Wilkins has a long history with the Democratic Party since the early 1980’s and was the lawyer who defended President Barack Obama’s former preacher Jeremiah Wright in 2008, when the church was under investigation for being in violation of its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status. According to visitors logs, Wilkins visited the White House at least nine times since 2010.

The Wall Street Journal’s Peggy Noonan describes Thursday’s revelations, saying, “It’s almost as if — my words — the conservative organizations in question were, during two major election cycles, deliberately held in a holding pattern”:

Choosing Evil

By James Lewis

Whatever the smelly details may be, it looks like we are now on the side of savage oppression of women, Jews, Christians, secularists, and every other heretic throughout the Muslim world.

Of course, it could all be just a coincidence.

But notice one more fact.

Thursday, Janet “Big Sis” Napolitano officially moved from Secretary of Homeland Security to the President of the University of California system.

In the same 24 hour period the UC Board of Regents named “student Muslim activist Sadia Saifuddin,” age 21, to be its next student member.

Don’t shut your eyes, don’t turn away from the obvious.

In the Middle East people are already dying in the tens of thousands, after our turn to the dark side.

Funny thing is, that happens whenever the radical left comes to power in the world.

Attention, Western media: there were NO 1967 ‘borders’

Leo Rennert

In their July 20 Washington Post article about an apparent deal to get Israel and the Palestinians to return to the negotiating table, correspondents Anne Gearan and William Booth write the following:

Palestinian leaders have balked at returning to the bargaining table without a promise that negotiations over a future Palestinian state would be based in principle on the pre-1967 borders.

One problem with this sentence, but it’s a huge one: there never were any pre-1967 “borders” between Israel and its neighbors — only a 1949 armistice line that Arab leaders twice sought to erase when they waged existential wars to annihilate Israel in 1967 and again in 1973. The Arab aggressors obviously didn’t succeed. Israel’s victories resulted in the capture of Sinai, Gaza, the West Bank, the Golan Heights, and East Jerusalem.

Move over NSA, here comes the Obamacare Big Brother database

by James S. Robbins

Would you trust thousands of low-level Federal bureaucrats and contractors with one-touch access to your private financial and medical information? Under Obamacare you won’t have any choice.

As the Obamacare train-wreck begins to gather steam, there is increasing concern in Congress over something called the Federal Data Services Hub. The Data Hub is a comprehensive database of personal information being established by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to implement the federally facilitated health insurance exchanges. The purpose of the Data Hub, according to a June 2013 Government Accountability Office (GAO) report, is to provide “electronic, near real-time access to federal data” and “access to state and third party data sources needed to verify consumer-eligibility information.” In these days of secret domestic surveillance by the intelligence community, rogue IRS officials and state tax agencies using private information for political purposes, and police electronically logging every license plate that passes by, the idea of the centralized Data Hub is making lawmakers and citizens nervous.

They certainly should be; the potential for abuse is enormous.

Is it time to reconsider the militarization of American policing?

By RADLEY BALKO

[…]

SWAT teams have their place, of course, but they should be saved for those relatively rare situations when police-initiated violence is the only hope to prevent the loss of life. They certainly have no place as modern-day vice squads.

Many longtime and retired law-enforcement officers have told me of their worry that the trend toward militarization is too far gone. Those who think there is still a chance at reform tend to embrace the idea of community policing, an approach that depends more on civil society than on brute force.

In this very different view of policing, cops walk beats, interact with citizens and consider themselves part of the neighborhoods they patrol—and therefore have a stake in those communities. It’s all about a baton-twirling “Officer Friendly” rather than a Taser-toting RoboCop.

UNESCO’s Grotesque Embrace of Che Guevara

by Claudia Rosett

With an impeccable instinct for venerating murderous thugs, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has now added to its Memory of the World Register the writings of Cuba’s Ernesto “Che” Guevara. That means that the documents generated by Che during his bloody career will now be treated as historical treasures, protected and cared for with the help of UNESCO. What’s next? The teachings of Stalin and Pol Pot?

For those who know nothing about Che except that he wore a beret, smoked cigars and continues to turn up as a splash of radical chic on t-shirts and adolescent wall posters, UNESCO’s move might sound reasonable. But if you bother to learn anything about who Che really was, or what he did, that impression curdles fast. Writing on Slate in 2004, author Paul Berman gave an excellent summary of Che’s character and career:

He was a vicious, sadistic thug.

Retiring IRS lawyer implicates Obama appointee in testimony

Patrick Howley

Retiring IRS lawyer Carter C. Hull’s testimony before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, in which he implicated an Obama appointee, will ensure that the IRS proceedings last through the summer, according to insiders close to the situation.

Hull has already implicated Obama-appointed IRS chief counsel William Wilkins and Washington-based IRS official Lois Lerner in his testimony.

“In April of 2010, I was assigned by my supervisor to work on two applications of tea party groups. In that same month, I became aware that a group of tea party applications were being held by EO determinations in Cincinnati,” Hull testified in his opening statement before California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa’s committee.

“It was my understanding that the applications assigned to me would be ‘test cases’ to provide guidance for those other applications. I was also told by my supervisor that I was to coordinate the review of the tea party applications that were assigned to Elizabeth Hofacre in Cincinnati,” Hull testified.
