Obama pushed Israel to accept Egyptian cease-fire agreement friendly to Hamas

President Barack Obama pressured Israel’s prime minister to adopt a cease-fire agreement with Hamas that was pushed by Hamas’ Egyptian ally, according to a White House statement released on Wednesday.

Obama “commended [Israel’s] Prime Minister for agreeing to the Egyptian ceasefire proposal – which the President recommended the Prime Minster do,” said the 12.31 a.m. EST statement from the White House. (RELATED: Egypt says Gaza cease-fire deal reached)

The cease-fire terms released by Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi’s office do not mention any binding curbs on its ally Hamas, nor any guarantees that would prevent another wave of Hamas rocket attacks against Israel.

“A. Israel should stop all hostilities in the Gaza Strip land, sea and air including incursions and targeting of individuals. … All Palestinian factions shall stop all hostilities from the Gaza Strip against Israel including rocket attacks and all attacks along the border,” said the statement.

The announcement also seems to accept Hamas’s demand for an end to Israeli restrictions on the importation of military-related items into the enclave, and its ban on movement of Hamas’ people from Gaza to the nearby West Bank, which is ruled by an unpopular Arab authority that has curbed attacks against Israel.

“Refraining from restricting residents’ free movements and targeting residents in border areas and procedures of implementation shall be dealt with after 24 hours from the start of the ceasefire,” said the announcement.

The announcement does not include mechanisms to enforce Hamas’s compliance. “Egypt shall receive assurances from each party that the party commits to what was agreed upon. … Each party shall commit itself not to perform any acts that would breach this understanding,” said the statement.

ABC, NBC, and CNN Correspondents now all pushing Hamas propaganda

The definition of a correspondent is as follows:

a person employed by a news agency, periodical, television network, etc., to gather, report, or contribute news, articles, and the like regularly from a distant place.

Note the implication. “News” is something that is supposed to be objective and devoid of opinion. Yet, the opinion of “correspondents” for western media outlets seems to be roundly anti-Israel and pro-Hamas.

We’ve already chronicled the egregious reporting over at CNN by Sara Sidner when it comes to what’s going on in Gaza. We can now add two more correspondents working for ABC and NBC respectively.

First, ABC’s Alex Marquardt tells George Stephanopolous that Palestinians believe they are firing rockets into civilian neighborhoods because they are “simply… defending themselves” and that “true peace cannot come along until Israel stops targeting people here in the Gaza Strip.”

So here we go again.

At 9 pm this evening Israel time, a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian terror groups of Gaza came into effect.

At 9.34, a rocket fired from Gaza exploded outside the southern Israel town of Shaar Hanegev, causing no injuries. By 10.01, 12 rockets had been fired into Israel.

The Times of Israel reports:

‘Military sources indicate that they would not be surprised if rogue terror cells test the ceasefire in its early phases.’

Well of course. I mean, it’s a bit unreasonable, isn’t it, expect ‘rogue terror cells’ to honour a cease-fire – even if they are the very terror cells supposedly party to this agreement?

Except that of course we have been here before. On January 18 2009, Israel’s operation Cast Lead was halted by a ceasefire agreement between Israel and the Hamas. Two days later, residents of a kibbutz near Gaza ran for cover as an air raid siren sounded; an explosion was heard, but the government denied there had been an attack. .

CBS News is reporting that it was the Office of the Director of National Intelligence that purged references to “al Qaeda” and “terrorism” from talking points given to Susan Rice, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. Rice used those talking points to promote the lie that the Benghazi massacre resulted from a spontaneous mob protest rather than a planned terrorist attack. CBS adds that the CIA and FBI signed off on this false version of events.

This is all farce, of course. There being no more honor among con-men than among thieves, there comes a time in all busted conspiracies when the conspirators start pointing fingers at each other. With their guy safely reelected, this spectacle has finally drawn the Obamedia’s attention to the president’s Benghazi travesty. Let’s not get lost here.
