Ever since FDR’s New Deal initiative, Democrats have gathered electoral support through the distribution of federal program dollars. They justify their spending by saying it is done to pursue “social justice” and “fairness.” The great political value of these concepts is that they are open-ended; they do not imply, nor do they allow, any limits.
While Republicans have struggled to convince voters that open-ended federal spending will eventually hurt working Americans and the poor, the mortgage crash of 2008 may provide such an opportunity. This is because the mortgage changes promoted by the standards of social justice and fairness had a clear beginning, middle, and implosive end.
Ukraine, which is about the size of Texas with twice the population, has no real bargaining chips to play. Lacking in any meaningful GDP numbers and serving as a transportation route for Russian gas to Western Europe, its economic clout is weak. The real story behind the false humanitarian arguments is about the West’s concerns over maintaining the flow of abundant natural gas. The failure of NATO countries to source energy from friendly countries is the key takeaway here. Never give a probable enemy control over your thermostat.

The good news coming out of the just-concluded legislative battle in Arizona is that religious freedom remains what it has been there, undiminished by Governor Jan Brewer’s veto of a bill meant to protect it. The bad news is that the debate over religious freedom has taken an ominous turn. Here are six takeaways from the controversy.
The media cannot be trusted to report accurately on social issues. I mention this first not because it is the most important part of the Arizona story — though it is very important — but because it has made understanding that story so difficult. The press leans to the left, as everyone knows, and especially on social issues. CNN anchors more or less openly advocated for a veto of the bill, which they would generally not do on tax legislation.

The Washington Report on Middle East Affairs claims that it is in the business of “Interpreting the Middle East for North Americans • Interpreting North America for the Middle East”.
Unfortunately the only place in the Middle East that the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs has ever heard of is Israel. That’s strange since the people who run it tend to be closely acquainted with their old Middle Eastern jobs in Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
The IRS still has not responded to allegations from a former Center for American Progress (CAP) employee that the left-wing think tank coordinates on editorial content with the White House — revelations that could threaten the organization’s nonprofit status.
Former ThinkProgress reporter Zaid Jilani wrote a piece this week detailing his experiences working for the liberal blog, which is run by CAP’s 501(c)(4) nonprofit Action Fund, the advocacy arm of White House counselor John Podesta’s think tank.

Few people to have emerged on the conservative scene in recent years have become as instantly beloved as Dr. Ben Carson, the renowned pediatric neurosurgeon and Professor Emeritus at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, who endeared himself to the right by speaking on conservative values at the National Prayer Breakfast just inches away from captive audience member Barack Obama.
That was the case again on Saturday when the good doctor visited the CPAC main stage to deliver his remarks.
He railed against President Obama for allowing the National Security Agency to seize millions of Americans’ phone records with a single warrant

Exactly how many iterations of this absurdly common-sense conclusion are we going to need before the Obama administration gets its rear in gear? From the Washington Post:
Zaid Jilani, a former blogger with the left-wing think tank Center for American Progress, explained this week how the Obama administration frequently tries to censor the progressive organization’s content when it departs from the White House’s agenda.

The boys were singing “Taps,” a longtime Boy Scout tradition that the Texas Trail USA troop had adapted as their own.
The boys had gathered in a circle with their hands raised straight into the air. They gradually lowered their hands as they sang the song. It concludes with their hands flush against their side.
“It really misrepresented what was going on,” Stemberger told me. “There are children involved and that made it more outrageous. They were exploited and misunderstood.”
Subsequently, Grossman removed her tweet and apologized, according to the GetReligion.org website.
But what really infuriated Stemberger was the Associated Press’ initial reluctance to remove the photograph and correct the caption. The Trail Life leader provided me with email correspondence he had with Nomaan Merchant, the writer of the story.

Ralph Peters: Obama DELUSIONAL to believe negotiations will make Putin back down; Crimea now BELONGS to Russia
By The Right Scoop
Lt. Col. Ralph Peters said his jaw literally dropped today when he heard what Obama wants to do about Putin’s invasion into Russia. He said to talk about negotiations at this point means that Obama and his administration live in a fantasy land, that they’re delusional because the only way Putin backs down is if he hits a wall and there’s no way this president or anyone else is willing to put up a wall.
Peters says that Crimea belongs to Russia now, it’s a done deal and the only question that remains is how much of Ukraine he is going to take and when is he going to take it.
