Rauf’s father, Dr. Muhammad Adbul Rauf, was a contemporary of Muslim Brotherhood founder Hassan al-Banna and was a radical Islamist. He became the head of the Islamic Cultural Center in Washington DC and founded three Malaysian Islamic Studies programs, including the International Islamic University of Malaysia. Feisal has followed his father’s plan for Islamic expansion in the United States. He is currently the Imam at Masjid Al-Farah Mosque at 245 W. Broadway, New York City, a scant 12 blocks from Ground Zero. Masjid Al-Farah is located between two bars. Why? Recently, the New York State Liquor Authority has notified three businesses on W. Broadway that it will revoke their liquor licenses based on the state’s alcohol beverage control law. After local residents told the State Liquor Authority of the existence of Masjid Al-Farah last May, the SLA began investigating local bars. One bar owner’s bid for a liquor license has been denied and he has claimed a loss of $13,000 per month as a result. Rauf is also the Imam of the Islamic Center of Long Island in Westbury, New York which includes the Crescent School at 835 Brush Hollow Road. Anti-Christian and anti-Semitic textbooks were used at the school. When pressured about their hateful content, Rauf stated that the use of the books would be discontinued. As of 2007, the books were still in use. [4]

When James Lovelock makes this kind of terrifying argument in books or newspaper interviews at least one can reasonably dismiss it as the potty burblings of an otherwise amiable and harmless old man.
When the BBC does it, however, I’d suggest the time has come to start tooling up and heading for the hills. Have a listen to this recent radio broadcast by the BBC’s “Ethical Man” Justin Rowlatt and tell me whether you find it as scary as I do.

It is clear to anyone with eyes in their head that the battle taking place off the Gaza shore is in fact a clash between an Islamist coalition which Turkey attempts to head – and which includes Iran, Hamas, and Hezbollah on one hand – and forces with a liberal Western orientation, represented by Israel, on the other hand.
This fight isn’t about Gaza. The battle is about the future of the Middle East: Will it be a future where the existing political order is maintained, or will radical Islamic forces rise and replace the current order, as already happened in Lebanon and in Turkey.
The sail to Gaza is merely one event in this struggle of titans. If Israel wanted to stop the flotilla, it could have done it more elegantly – for example, by sabotaging the ships underwater. Another possibility was to block their path while declaring that only Gilad Shalit’s release will allow the vessels to continue. This way, Israel would have shifted this hot potato to Hamas.

Over the last two weeks, a liberal scholar and pundit named Peter Beinart got a lot of attention by arguing that liberals could no longer be pro-Israel because the country and its people had moved too far to the right. The reality however is just the opposite. In every way, from national defense to the role of religion in public life, Israel has actually watered down its principles and liberalized. But it could not and cannot keep up with the pace at which liberals have slid far to the left.
The key factor in falling liberal support for Israel is not inside the country, but outside it. As liberals have become more radicalized, what used to be the left is now simply liberal. And the delegitimization of Israel is part of a larger package of radical beliefs which extends across the spectrum into every area of domestic and foreign policy.

But with all stories, there are indeed two sides.
As international outrage mounts, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cancels Tuesday’s scheduled meeting with President Obama, it is crucial that news outlets here offer an accurate, fair and balanced assessment of exactly what transpired in the Mediterranean Sea early Monday morning.

Syria has told the UN atomic watchdog about past nuclear experiments, but is still refusing to cooperate over allegations that it was building a secret nuclear reactor with North Korea’s help, a new report revealed Monday.

At the same time, the IAEA complained that Syria had not cooperated with its investigation into allegations that Damascus had been building an undeclared reactor at a remote desert site called Dair Alzour until it was bombed by Israeli planes in September 2007.
The IAEA has been investigating the allegations since 2008 and has already said that the building bore some of the characteristics of a nuclear facility.
UN inspectors also detected “significant” traces of man-made uranium at that site, as yet unexplained by Damascus.
It has also requested access to three other locations allegedly functionally related to Dair Alzour, but so far to no avail.

Via the IDF’s blog. Ed already posted video taken from above the ship as Israeli troops rappeled down but this one’s shot from alongside so there’s more detail. Have a look as the Forces of Peace shift into full-on mob mode, dragging the soldiers to the ground before they’re even on the deck and swinging for the fences with huge metal poles. Some of the IDF personnel involved later described it as a “lynching,” which sounded dubious to me at first but not anymore. That’s what it looks like.

PLEASE COME AND BRING AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN OF ALL AGES BY or AFTER 8 a. m. TO YONGE AND COLLEGE STREETS IN TORONTO ON WEDNESDAY, JUNE 2ND FOR AN ALL-DAY PEACEFUL WITNESS TO THE PLIGHT AND CONDITIONS OF LINDA GIBBONS.
Linda Gibbons witnesses peacefully against abortion at the Scott Abortion facility on Gerard St. in Toronto. She stands beside the sidewalk at the entrance to the abortuary and simply offers to talk with the women going in. If these women do not wish to talk, Linda does not bother them.
Linda does not heckle women going for an abortion as she knows the painful dilemma of these vulnerable women. She does not hassle them. Linda only serves as a check on their conscience. Some do stop and speak with her.
Linda Gibbons has had an abortion herself and has three children, her second pregnancy having been terminated in abortion. She regrets this deeply. Linda tries to keep women from the guilt that she herself will always bear for taking the life of her baby within her womb through an abortion before she became a Christian.
“Put the baby up for adoption or raise it yourself”, Linda advises. Added to the guilt are many, many emotional and physical complications from abortion. Linda desperately wants to spare women from these problems AND she wants babies in the womb to enjoy safety and security. Yet every year Canada murders more than 100,000 innocent unborn babies, more than 3,000,000 in total since 1969. This has a chilling, devastating effect upon all of Canada.
Linda planned to get out of prison after her upcoming court dates of June 2nd and 3rd as she comes before three judges. She wants to visit her own elderly mother. The three judges will hear an appeal of the 1994 ‘temporary’ injunction of Premier Bob Rae’s government which prohibits anyone from being in a 60-foot zone around the abortion facility.
Daniel Santoro, Linda’s lawyer, has stated that the Crown Attorney is not yet ready to proceed with this case. As of June 3rd, Linda will have served exactly 500 days in prison, far longer than her usual six months. Linda entered prison on January 21, 2009 and there is no fixed time when she can leave. This is a crime and even prison officials admit this.
We MUST help Linda. I visited her on Tuesday, May 25th and Linda has aged. Prison life is hard. Often Linda has been denied her mail. For three months Linda suffered with a bad cold. She usually refuses to see a prison doctor because she is afraid of what the doctor might give her. Nonetheless, Linda’s health condition got so bad that she did see a doctor.
Linda has suffered more than seven years in prisons for her peaceful pro-life witness. Although Linda is non-violent and harmless, she has served more time in jail that Karla Homolka and men who have used a gun to hold up a variety store.
Please come by 8 a. m. on Wednesday, June 2nd to the southwest corner of Yonge and College streets in Toronto for an all-day witness. There will be T-shirts and signs available or bring your own. This is a time to focus on the many, many injustices done to Linda Gibbons.
Linda has often been falsely charged with disturbing the peace. She has many times been charged with Obstructing a Peace Officer. This is silly. At the time when Linda Gibbons is standing beside the sidewalk at the entrance to the abortuary, the Sheriff (the Peace Officer) is across town eating his doughnuts and drinking coffee. Rather, the abortion staff at the Scott Abortion facility phone the Sheriff and summon him to come.
The Sheriff gives more respect and attention to the abortion facility staff than to Linda. He then reads out the 1994 ‘temporary’ injunction to Linda. In other words the abortion facility staff force the Sheriff to act against Linda. Enshrined in law are the words that protect the “economic interests” of the abortion facility. This means that if Linda should succeed in convincing a woman not to have an abortion that this would reduce the amount of money made by the abortionist and his staff that day. This is viewed as a crime.
The far greater crime is the treatment of Linda Gibbons as police, the courts and the attorney general’s office have conspired together to deny her justice. THIS MUST STOP.
Please bring as many people as you can by 8 a. m. to Yonge and College streets in Toronto on June 2nd and 3rd for an all-day peaceful witness of the plight and conditions of Linda. This is not a time to witness against abortion, our main work. We can no longer afford to have people say that the crime of Linda Gibbons is about abortion. The judicial system has grossly wronged Linda. It’s crimes include: multiple injustices and false charges, loss of freedom of speech, the violation of an innocent woman, the targeting of a Christian, the victimization of the poor and the denial of logic in the public square.

This morning, he taped footage of a demonstration against Benyamin Netanyahu’s visit to the city. The demo was co-sponsored by taxpayer funded Palestine House.
While filming a public demonstration on a public sidewalk, my husband was approached by Ali Mallah — the Vice President of the Canadian Arab Federation, and high ranking member of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE)/Canadian Labour Congress.
Mallah recognized my husband, crossed the street, and verbally and physically assaulted him.

A brutal ambush at sea

Our Navy commandoes fell right into the hands of the Gaza mission members. A few minutes before the takeover attempt aboard the Marmara got underway, the operation commander was told that 20 people were waiting on the deck where a helicopter was to deploy the first team of the elite Flotilla 13 unit. The original plan was to disembark on the top deck, and from there rush to the vessel’s bridge and order the Marmara’s captain to stop.
Officials estimated that passengers will show slight resistance, and possibly minor violence; for that reason, the operation’s commander decided to bring the helicopter directly above the top deck. The first rope that soldiers used in order to descend down to the ship was wrested away by activists, most of them Turks, and tied to an antenna with the hopes of bringing the chopper down. However, Flotilla 13 fighters decided to carry on.
Navy commandoes slid down to the vessel one by one, yet then the unexpected occurred: The passengers that awaited them on the deck pulled out bats, clubs, and slingshots with glass marbles, assaulting each soldier as he disembarked. The fighters were nabbed one by one and were beaten up badly, yet they attempted to fight back.
However, to their misfortune, they were only equipped with paintball rifles used to disperse minor protests, such as the ones held in Bilin.

It appears that our federal politicians are coming to their senses. After weeks of public outrage over the Board of Internal Economy’s refusal to allow Auditor-General Sheila Fraser to conduct a parliamentary performance audit, the Conservatives announced that they will be making a proposal that would allow Ms. Fraser to open the books. The Tories will be presenting their plan to the Board this week, in an attempt to break the logjam while saving as much face as possible under the circumstances.
But MPs have little dignity left to salvage. Over the past few weeks, the Conservatives, Liberals and New Democrats have treated increasingly irate voters to a litany of excuses, flip-flops, and outrageous attempts at justifying the Board’s position. Only the Bloc Quebecois supported Ms. Fraser’s request, ironically turning the separatist party into the champion of the Canadian taxpayer.
