Wednesday is the last day to sign up for my winter getaway called the Freedom Weekend. Or as John Miller calls it, a terrorist training camp.
But you decide which it really is.
As I wrote a few months ago, Sun News personalities from Charles Adler to Michael Coren to Krista Erickson will join me at a beautiful resort north of Toronto, for the weekend of Feb. 24-26, and I’ve invited enthusiastic Sun readers to join us for the fun.
We’ll talk politics, dine together and go snowshoeing, have a campfire, the works. It will be like joining our newsroom for a weekend of great discussion, food and fun.
But to John Miller, a former editor of the Toronto Star and former chair of the Ryerson school of journalism, it doesn’t sound like fun.
Miller checked out my website — FreedomWeekend.ca — and he literally compared the gathering to the Toronto 18 terrorists.
Here is an extended quote from his rant to show that I’m not taking this out of context one bit:
By Sunlen Miller:
President Obama “reinforced” his stance on the controversial contraception mandate while speaking at the Democrats’ annual retreat at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. today, Senate Democrats said.
The retreat was closed to media.

Krauthammer had nothing but compliments for Santorum today given the effective way he’s handling Romney’s attacks on the morning after his big win. In fact, Krauthammer went as far to say that if all Romney can come up with is earmarks to hit Santorum with, then Santorum doesn’t have much of a problem:

One of the important early contributions of James Madison to American life was his impact on the framing of the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Virginia in 1776. One section stated that “all men are equally entitled to the free exercise of religion according to the dictates of conscience.” Another declared that “any citizen may freely speak, write, and publish his sentiments on all subjects, being responsible for the abuse of that right.” The Bill of Rights of the U.S. Constitution went even further with the provision that Congress should make no law “prohibiting the free exercise” of religion or abridge the freedom of speech or of the press.
As a result of Islamic activity in recent years the question has arisen in Western countries whether tension or incompatibility exists between the two principles, freedom of speech and freedom of religion, and whether restrictions should be imposed on speech critical of religions or religious beliefs. Should those beliefs and belief systems be protected from adverse comment? Equally should not those who may be offended by such comment tolerate the legitimate exercise of free expression in democratic societies?
A war is coming. We need a miracle to avert it. Both sides have been preparing for it for years. The two states are earmarking resources, holding drills, utilizing intelligence means, creating uncertainty, and publicly presenting positions that offer no way back. Israel and Iran are currently facing a growing cold war situation and are on an almost certain collision course. A war is coming.
If Obama accedes to a strike on Iran it will only be to placate his Saudi masters and to galvanize his re-election odds.
Naftali Bennett, former Chief of Staff to Benjamin Netanyahu, posted this video message on Youtube pleading with the Obama administration to either stop Iran, or let Israel do the job.

Yet Coulter, once the scourge of such malleable “moderates,” has gone through some sort of transformation that has rendered her blind to Romney’s cheap opportunism. And if the primary voters are foolish enough to follow her advice, they will rue the day they listened to her and the establishment Republicans with whom she has now made common cause. As Coulter herself pointed out last year when she spoke at CPAC, Barack Obama will be reelected in 2012 if the Republican Party nominates Mitt Romney for President.

In what appears to be an exclusive for border issues-focused Fronteras, Michel Marizco reveals information that seems to directly undermine the Department of Justice’s insistence that Operation Fast and Furious was a localized and compartmentalized plot within the Phoenix ATF and Phoenix U.S. Attorney’s Office.
In sworn testimony in front of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform last week, U.S. Attorney Eric Holder continued with this stance. Holder was supported by congressional Democrats who cited a lack of evidence of corruption — corruption that the Oversight majority speculated was a result of the DOJ refusing to hand over the majority of the documents and witnesses requested.
Retired DEA official Tony Coulson was in charge of DEA-Tucson during Operation Fast and Furious. He now states that his agency and Immigration and Customs Enforcement were not only aware of the gunwalking plot, but that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents were actively interdicting the plot, confiscating weapons the ATF was walking to Mexican narco-terrorists:

Zinn was arguably the most popular proponent of the “history from below” school of historiography, which explores past events from the perspective of everyday people as opposed to the “Great Men” theory, which actor Brolin, another Zinn devotee, calls mere “propaganda.” Zinn’s 1980 book A People’s History of the United States, one of the best-selling history books of all time thanks partly to the influence of pop culture powerhouses like Damon, Brolin, and the rock group Pearl Jam, is a litany of oppression and exploitation on the part of America’s white ruling class, a “raggedly conceived Marxist caricature” of American history, as David Horowitz calls it in his Unholy Alliance: Radical Islam and the American Left.
Zinn’s book is as ubiquitous in high school and university classrooms as sexual tension. His website proudly asserts that “no other radical historian has reached so many hearts and minds.” Well certainly, no other has darkened as many young hearts toward America and clouded as many young minds with utter disdain for facts and objectivity. Like his fellow academic cult figure Noam Chomsky and President Obama’s former associate and likely ghostwriter, unrepentant-terrorist-turned-radical-educator William Ayers, Zinn’s world view is powered by a relentless and hateful leftist fantasy: that the American government is and always has been racist, oppressive, warmongering, and ruthlessly exploitative, and that it must be subverted. And that subversion begins in classrooms all across America.

Let’s say you’re Israel. An enemy dedicated to your destruction is developing the means to wipe you off the face of the earth, with the covert and overt help of world powers like Russia and China. It’s only a matter of months before that enemy achieves its goals – and when it does you will not be able to stop the mushroom cloud rising over your cities.
So you come up with a sophisticated military plan to strike your foe in an extraordinarily targeted fashion. And you ask for the help of your longtime ally – virtually your only ally – the United States. All you want is covert logistical support … and secrecy. Secrecy is of the utmost importance, since a full-scale aerial assault on your enemy is unfeasible.
Let’s say you’re Israel. What would you say if the United States promptly proceeded to broadcast your military plans to the rest of the world?
Two little words come to mind. And neither of them is “thanks.”

If there was ever any doubt about one of the Obama Administration’s key philosophical commitments, it was dispelled on Jan. 20 when the Department of Health and Human Services informed the Catholic Church that most of its agencies will be required to provide employees with insurance-coverage for contraceptives, sterilization, and abortifacient drugs: i.e., products, procedures, and chemicals used to facilitate acts which the Church and plenty of others consider intrinsically evil.
Alas, it’s not a question of the administration being tragically “tone deaf,” as one American Jesuit claimed, to specifically Catholic concerns. Nor is the bedrock of President Obama’s position, in the end, a commitment to “women’s health.” Outside the ghoulish world of Planned Parenthood, pregnancy does not qualify as a disease. A fertile womb is no threat to human life.
No, this is all about the absolutization of choice for the sake of choice. It’s also about creating a society in which any discussion of the actual ends we choose is considered unacceptable in public debates about law and morality.
Wall Street Journal:
The political furor over President Obama’s birth-control mandate continues to grow, even among those for whom contraception poses no moral qualms, and one needn’t be a theologian to understand why. The country is being exposed to the raw political control that is the core of the Obama health-care plan, and Americans are seeing clearly for the first time how this will violate pluralism and liberty.
By Keith Riler:
In executing its HHS contraception edict, the Obama regime has simultaneously squelched Catholic military chaplains and promoted an inaccurate but state-sponsored version of “Catholicism.” This scary, couldn’t-happen-here stuff provides us with two very important lessons.
First, the facts. National Review has reported that the U.S. Army tried to strong-arm military chaplains into not reading their bishops’ letters of condemnation of the recent HHS contraception mandate. When this failed, the army was successful in editing the texts of the sermons to specifically exclude the statement “We cannot — we will not — comply with this unjust law.”
This happened while, at the same time, Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and others were subverting true Catholicism and promoting their own state-sponsored religion with the slimy use of schoolyard peer pressure.
Obama, from http://www.barackobama.com and repeated in USA Today:
The Middle East is basically in the process of dividing into some distinct spheres of influence. Thanks to our intervention in Iraq, a Shi’ite bloc consisting of Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon is forming up, and a Sunni bloc is coalescing consisting of Libya, Egypt, Gaza, and whatever areas in Judea and Samaria the “Palestinians” end up occupying (which will likely end up being ruled by the Muslim Brotherhood), with the possible addition of Jordan. The Saudis, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, and the Emirates will likely retain their close ties to each other as Sunni oligarchies situated between the two…and in the case of the Saudis and Bahrain, Sunni oligarchies with restive Shi’ite populations that will be used by Iran to foment unrest and perhaps even to topple the established order in those countries.
Syria is where the spheres of influence meet.
Bashar Assad and many of the regime loyalists are members of the minority Alawite sect, a Shi’ite offshoot. The rebel groups like the Syrian Free Army are almost exclusively Sunni and mostly affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood.
That’s the real backstory in Syria, and depending on who prevails, Syria will either remain part of the Shi’ite bloc dominated by Iran or become part of the Muslim Brotherhood Sunni bloc.
That’s why the Arab League is so exercised, and that’s why Qaradawi issued a fatwa. The aim is to foment unrest among the largely Sunni Muslims in Russia and Western China and, more to the point, to encourage Sunni fighters from other countries to launch a jihad and provide a veneer of religious justification for any brutalities meted out to Assad’s forces or even Alawite civilians.
This is standard Muslim practice.
By James Lewis:
Obama and Carter represent the dangerous “left of the left wing” Democrat foreign policy establishment, the folks who thought we should surrender to the Soviets, who created the retreat from Saigon, and who rationalized the Iran-Iraq War, which killed a million people after Carter allowed Khomeini radicalism to rise in Iran. The destruction caused by left-leftist foreign policy “thought” from the Democrats is immense. Over the years, they have colluded in hundreds of thousands of deaths abroad — covered up by the mainstream media. They are Lenin’s useful idiots, who colluded in 100 million Communist terror victims in the 20th century alone, and they have not changed one little bit.
That is not true with a nuclear Iran, which is really run by a suicide-glorifying cult, just like World War II Japan, or Hitler during the last days in the bunker. For the first time in history, humanity is facing the worst of all possible options: nuclear weapons in the hands of a cult which preaches and glorifies massive martyrdom and which has carried out giant martyrdom attacks during the Iran-Iraq War.
