Some ‘Splainin’ to do in Chicago

By Lee Cary & Marty Watters:

On February 27, a Chicagoland website, Illinois PayToPlay, cited the star witness in the Operation Gambit trials of the early ’90s, Robert Cooley, as a primary source for the news that Daniel Frawley says he gave $400,000 in cash to Tony Rezko, who then passed it on to Barack Obama.

In case you missed Cooley’s story, James Peterson, writing for Andrew Breitbart’s Big Journalism, noted that “[i]n the mid-1980′s, Chicago Outfit Lawyer Robert Cooley voluntarily went undercover for the FBI as part of an investigation called Operation Gambat. Cooley wore a wire on, among others, [Alderman Ed] Burke’s good friend and made-man, Alderman Fred Roti. The Chief Judge of Cook County’s Chancery Court and an Assistant Senate Majority Leader of the Illinois State Senate were also targeted. Cooley’s work eventually led to the only judge in U.S. history being convicted of fixing a murder trial.”

Cooley is a Chicago legend.

As the star witness for the prosecution back then, Cooley’s credibility was validated by 26 convictions. Now, Cooley is back on the Chicago scene along with news that leaves a number of current, and former, Chicagoans with some splainin’ to do. Among the short list are these persons of interest.

Planting the UN Flag on the Earth’s Oceans

Dr. Ileana Johnson Paugh:

Zoellick suggests that marine protected areas should be 5 percent not just 2 percent. After all, 12 percent of land is protected. The earth’s water mass is so much larger, they must control more.“The world’s oceans are in danger, “send out the S-O-S, we need to save our seas.”

One billion people in developing countries depend on fish and seafood for their primary source of protein and half a billion depend on fishing for their livelihood. Fishing represents 80 percent of export for Pacific Island states and coastal nations. It is abundantly clear that this new platform is another UN Agenda 21 initiative to spread the wealth from developed countries to developing nations.

If we consider the Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST) which aims to control mineral and oil exploration in oceans, and oceanic passage under the United Nations control with its “Agency,” the Biosphere land preserves and corridors, population density controls, rezoning of living areas, restricted mobility through decreased usage of fossil fuels as a means of locomotion, and now control of fishing on the oceans, it is evident that United Nations wants to control every aspect of our lives.

All across the U.S. efforts are underway to pass Regional plans that erase boundaries between cities, counties, and states. “We are losing our ability to influence our government policies at the same time that we are being solicited for our opinion.”

BBC Chief twists himself into a Pretzel while rationalizing Muslim Bias

WALID SHOEBAT:

Ah, the depths people will go to rationalize their own cowardice. There’s nothing quite like admitting you’re wrong and then attempting to justify it. Even when BBC chief Mark Thompson had to come face to face with his own fear, he decided to rationalize the fact that his network is biased in favor of Islam and against Christianity.

Why?

Well, because you Christians can take it.

Will most people remain silent as Holocaust denial permeates Italy’s mainstream?

Giulio Meotti:

“The Holocaust is a gigantic imposture, the greatest lie of modern times.” This is how Robert Faurisson, known as “the dean of deniers,” refers to the Shoah in an article published by Rinascita, a national daily newspaper financed by Italy’s government.

Isn’t Holocaust’s denial going mainstream if even an Italian publication sees no problem in running an article about “disinfectants such as Zyklon B”?

Holocaust perversion is like the flower of evil, the sign of a rising anti-Semitism. In Italy, a jarring 44% of citizens are “prejudiced or hostile towards Jews,” according to a new study released by the Italian Parliament. A large group of public figures from across the political spectrum signed a petition titled “Hands Off Iran,” which referred to the “so-called Holocaust.”

Allen West: When tolerance is a one way street, it will lead to cultural suicide

by The Right Scoop:

Allen West said that the Muslims sending messages to each other by writing in the Korans were violating their own principles and based on Islamic law, those Korans must be burned. And yet all of a sudden, as if we did something wrong, we’re on the defense apologizing.

West then said “when tolerance becomes a one way street, it will lead to cultural suicide”:

Obama’s Union Speech a “Load of You-Know-What”

By David Harsanyi:

False choices. Populist bromides. A lecture on values. President Barack Obama treated us to some of his greatest hits this week.

Speaking before the United Auto Workers union in Washington, Obama, champion of the working man, challenged auto bailout “naysayers” to “come around” and admit that “standing by American workers was the right thing to do,” as bailouts “saved” the auto industry. (You have to wonder whether downtrodden citizens appreciate just how close they came to having to roller-skate to work.)

“They’re out there talking about you like you’re some special interest that needs to be beaten down,” Obama told cheering union members. And those who claim that bailouts were just a labor payback are simply peddling a “load of you-know-what.”

I do know what, Mr. President.

Because actually, the United Auto Workers union is a special interest.

Genocidal Liberalism: The University’s Jihad Against Israel & Jews

by Jamie Glazov:

FP: Richard Cravatts, welcome to Frontpage Interview.

Illuminate for us the jihad against Jews and Israel on the American campus.

What is the extent to which the campus Left is allied with jihadist elements, Muslim student associations, and funded by Saudi money? Why do you think they have the formed this “unholy alliance”?

Cravatts: Many of us have been concerned for some time with the relentless, deceptive, and dangerous attacks against Israel emanating from college campuses, particularly because academia was always thought to be a place where honesty debate and scholarly inquiry could flourish. But at least with regard to Israel, that no longer is the case. In fact, what I characterize as an intellectual jihad against Israel is taking place right now on campuses everywhere, characterized by such vile contortions of history and fact, and driven by such moral imbecility and double standards on the part of its adherents, that is has few parallels as a campus movement. It involves, first, a rapturous adherence to a cult of “Palestinianism,” in which seeking social justice for the ever-suffering Palestinians has become the primary intellectual mission of many liberals who deride Western values and democratic states, and a convenient cause for many in the Arab world for whom the Palestinians have become a club to use against Israel and Jews. On campuses, this has evolved into a dangerous “unholy alliance” between Islamists with a specific agenda to dilute Western institutions, and leftists who, in accommodating radical Islam, not only enable what Robert Spencer has called a “stealth jihad,” but help facilitate it.

On campuses, the stealth jihad is led by the Muslin Student Association, an off-shoot of the Muslim Brotherhood whose 600 chapters serve as command centers for inviting guest speakers with incendiary rhetoric, annual hate-fests during which Israel and Jews are libeled, slandered, and demonized, shouting down or preventing speeches by pro-Israel, anti-jihad speakers, and other instances extremist behavior and destructive narratives about the Israel/Palestinian debate.

Bailout for OWS?

by Jacob Laksin:

Bankruptcy makes for strange bedfellows. During its brief spell on the national stage, the Occupy Wall Street movement raged against rich corporations – “corporate fascists” in OWS parlance. But as the national spotlight has faded – and as cash from progressive donors has dried up – the movement’s soak-the-rich agitators are set to welcome a financing boost from the same “1 percent” they once denounced.

OWS’s corporate benefactor is the so-called Movement Resource Group, a funding venture backed by the left-wing founders of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream as well as the former manager of grunge group Nirvana, among others. The group has raised some $300,000 so far, and plans to raise around $1.8 million to revive the moribund movement.

My Dinner with Mustafa and Marwan

by Jack L. Schwartzwald:

Decrying Israel’s “security barrier,” which “pens us into what are best described as Bantustans,” Bargouthi proclaimed that, “others must now show similar courage” to that displayed by Adnan. Were they to do so, he argues, “the last surviving apartheid system in the world” could be brought down, Israelis could be made to cease “being part of the last colonial-settler system of our time,” and “Palestine” could be made free.

Of course, Bargouthi has some of his “facts” wrong. Israeli Jews, for example, are not “colonial settlers,” but rather a people with a valid claim to secure self-determination in at least part of their ancestral homeland (a claim that Mahmoud Abbas’ Palestinan Authority, together with most of the Arab world, consistently deny). Likewise, Israel is not an “apartheid” state. Israel’s Arab citizens have full and equal rights not enjoyed by women, gays or ethno-religious minorities anywhere in the Arab world (including the PA-controlled West Bank). And Israel’s security barrier – the putative symbol of Israeli “segregation” policy – was not brazenly erected despite Palestinian participation in “negotiations” and “peace conferences,” but because certain Palestinian “spokespersons” kept blowing themselves up in Israeli hotels, buses, and restaurants. (The results of the security barrier speak for themselves: In 2002, prior to its construction, 457 Israelis were murdered in such attacks. In 2009, after its construction, the murder toll was eight.)

Factually deficient or no, Bargouthi’s piece made for such stirring reading that on the evening of its publication hundreds of jailed Palestinians refused their meals in a show of solidarity. Sadly, the momentum of this “group fast” was derailed by the discovery that, while the participants went hungry, Bargouthi’s famous cousin, Marwan (the jailed Fatah leader) was eating dinner in his cell in front of a prison surveillance camera.

Kasparov: Why Vladimir Putin Is Immune To American Reset – Lecture

By Garry Kasparov:

Thank you for inviting me to attend this important event here at the Heritage Foundation today. My thanks to Speaker Boehner[1] and all the other participants for their interest and their comments.

For a little introduction of myself, there’s one fact from my biography that is always omitted. Many here might not be aware that I myself am from the Deep South, right next to Georgia. I’m referring to the Deep South of the Soviet Union. That’s my hometown of Baku, Azerbaijan, where I was born in 1963, next to what is now the Republic of Georgia.

Of course, much has changed since then. There are no more Communists in the Republic of Georgia—much as there are no more Democrats in the state of Georgia—and Georgia is as good a place as any to begin my talk on the Putin regime’s immunity to America’s attempts at a “reset.” Georgia is currently under great pressure from the U.S. and others to allow Russia to join the World Trade Organization, despite two large pieces of Georgian sovereign territory being occupied by Russian forces.

The Blood of Religious Liberty Enabled Freedom of Speech

By Geoffrey P. Hunt:

Where were the secularists, apart from Socrates 700 years earlier, extolling the virtues of unfettered political speech? There weren’t any. Because the most radical idea worth dying for was the Incarnation, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth. Christian theology remained the most compelling font of intellectual inquiry and discourse until the 17th century. And in England, the wellspring of free political speech, religious protagonists schooled the monarchy, the establishmentarian Church, and political scientists about freedom of conscience and the merits of a pluralistic society.

Now, it is also true that over the ensuing 1,200 years since Constantine, religious speech, doctrine, and polity were co-opted by the state. In the most remarkable contradiction of history, despite the cruel oppressions of free speech from the unholy alliances amongst monarchs and the Church, the origins of analytical thinking, intellectual rigor, and the exercise of free conscience came from theologians, apologists, and non-conformists within the Church. From Tertullian to Augustine to Thomas Aquinas to Martin Luther, battles for free speech, assembly, petition, and press, the exercise of publicly displayed freedom of conscience and pursuit of intellectual discourse — all took place within the Church or by churchmen.

Yet we’ve become accustomed into thinking that rights to free speech and assembly arrived via an asteroid, spontaneous combustion, or even a virgin birth (as George Weigel quips in The Cube and the Cathedral) around the time of the 1688 English Bill of Rights — an event unconnected to religious liberty. No, the struggle to secure freedom of conscience and the right to assemble predate the English Bill of Rights by some 1,500 years, in the Christian era. It was religious speech, exercised and practiced in public forums, under the ever-present perils from boiling oil, gnarling beasts, evisceration, and crucifixion, that enabled freedoms of speech, assembly, press, and petition everywhere else, albeit a millennium later — not the other way around.

Wash. Post’s Palestinian propaganda falsifies history and the Bible

Leo Rennert:

At first blush, it seems a fairly innocent tale – even an inspiring one.

In its Feb. 29 edition, the Washington Post runs an article by Jerusalem correspondent Joel Greenberg about Tel Aviv naming a square in memory of an Arab physician who treated both Arabs and Jews before Israel’s War of Independence in 1948. The occasion also marked a homecoming for a daughter and a son of Fouad Dajani to their ancestral neighborhood of Jaffa (“In Israel, a square for a Palestinian doctor” page A11).

But Greenberg badly misuses the dedication ceremony to inject his piece with anti-Israel poison pills in an attempt to undermine the very legitimacy of Israel’s nationhood.

Catching Up with Rep. Allen West

by
Myra Adams:

Q. Congressman West, you have decided to run for reelection in newly drawn Florida District 18, where there are more Republican registered voters, instead of your current Florida District 22 that will also be redrawn to include more registered Democrat voters. This decision points to a realization that your conservative message only plays well in Republican-leaning districts, and that if you stayed in your current District 22 your chances of reelection would have been substantially reduced. Why do your strongly held conservative principles seem to be so polarizing among the general voting population?

‘We Can’t Sacrifice Democracy to Save the Euro’

SPIEGEL:

On Tuesday, Germany’s highest court delivered a possible setback to Chancellor Angela Merkel’s efforts to rescue the euro by ruling that a secret committee meant to fast-track approval for bailouts was largely unconstitutional. German commentators mainly supported the court’s ruling, arguing that democracy shouldn’t be sacrificed in the fight to save the euro.

Obama’s Infanticide Votes

By Patrick Brennan:

In last Wednesday’s debate, when the Republican candidates were asked about their positions on birth control, Newt Gingrich parried with one of his usual tactics, a fusillade against the mainstream media. He told CNN’s John King, “You did not once in the 2008 campaign, not once did anybody in the elite media ask why Barack Obama voted in favor of legalizing infanticide. If we’re going to have a debate about who is the extremist on these issues, it is President Obama, who, as a state senator, voted to protect doctors who killed babies who survived the abortion.”

Two points of Gingrich’s barrage warrant assessment. First, did Barack Obama, as a state senator, vote “in favor of legalizing infanticide,” by voting “to protect doctors who killed babies who survived the abortion”? And second, has no one in the elite media ever discussed his record on the issue? Yes; and no, but essentially yes.

Exclusive Interview: Infidel Victim of Pennsylvania Sharia Judge Reveals Inside Details of Case

By Pamela Geller:

This is why anti-sharia legislation is so essential. What happened to equal protection under the law?

Back in October, I reported on Ernest Perce, a parade-goer wearing a “Zombie Muhammad” costume while marching in a local Pennsylvania Halloween parade. He was viciously attacked and choked by Talaag Elbayomy, a Muslim (who was enforcing the sharia — he assumed that it was illegal in this country to insult Muhammad). “He grabbed me, choked me from the back, and spun me around to try to get my sign off that was wrapped around my neck,” reported Perce.

Last week, an American judge in Pennsylvania, Judge Mark Martin, ruled on the case and sided with the Muslim, and said that the victim would have been put to death in Muslim societies for his “crime.”
