The New Authoritarianism
Fred Siegel and Joel Kotkin:
“I refuse to take ‘No’ for an answer,” said President Obama this week as he claimed new powers for himself in making recess appointments while Congress wasn’t legally in recess. The chief executive’s power grab in naming appointees to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the National Labor Relations Board has been depicted by administration supporters as one forced upon a reluctant Obama by Republican intransigence. But this isn’t the first example of the president’s increasing tendency to govern with executive-branch powers. He has already explained that “where Congress is not willing to act, we’re going to go ahead and do it ourselves.” On a variety of issues, from immigration to the environment to labor law, that’s just what he’s been doing—and he may try it even more boldly should he win reelection. This “go it alone” philosophy reflects an authoritarian trend emerging on the political left since the conservative triumph in the 2010 elections.

Just two weeks after a Temple era seal was displayed to the public, archeologists continue to dig up breathtaking proofs of the ancient and never-severed connection between Jews and the Land of Israel. By James Delingpole:
And the truth is that right now, of all the great Western nations Canada is probably the only one left still standing up for the values that made the West great. (Mega H/T Benny Peiser at GWPF)

Facebook’s undeclared war on Israel
Jeff Treesh:
I call shame on Facebook. Why? Because they have blocked my page from posting on others pages, and have threatened to take my page down for being spammy and racist. A page that openly calls for the American right to free speech, and the boycott of CAIR.
First let’s look at some facts according to the Facebook statistics page:

Germany: Political Headaches for Merkel
by Peter Martino:
The year did not start well for Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel. On January 4, Mario Draghi, the president of the European Central Bank, appointed the Belgian Peter Praet to be the ECB’s chief economist. Merkel’s candidate, the German Jörg Asmussen, did not get the job although Merkel had intended him to replace his compatriot Jürgen Stark, the previous ECB chief economist.
