Why BEST Will Not Settle the Climate Debate

By S. Fred Singer:

Global warming has re-entered public consciousness in recent days, partly because of the buzz surrounding the release of warming results from the Berkeley Earth Surface Temperature (BEST) project. The reaction of the “warmistas” has been jubilant, yet hilariously wrong. Will they ever learn?

They’ve latched on to the BEST result as their last best hope for rescuing misbegotten schemes to control emissions of the greenhouse gas CO2. Leading the pack has been the Washington Post (Oct. 25), whose columnist tried to write off Republican presidential candidates Bachmann, Cain, and Perry as “cynical diehards,” deniers, idiots, or whatever.

I sent the WP a letter pointing out obvious errors, but I got a peculiar response. It turned out that they were willing to publish my letter, but not my credentials as emeritus professor at the University of Virginia and former director of the U.S. Weather Satellite Service. Apparently, they were concerned that readers might gain the impression that I knew something about climate.

Predictable: New York Times Buries White House Shooter’s #Occupy Connection

by John Nolte:

In a nearly thousand-word article written about the arrest and capture of 21-year-old Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez, a man suspected of shooting at the White House, you’ll have to read through at least six paragraphs before you get to what should be the most explosive part:

Late on Friday, the police had searched the Occupy DC protest camp, on McPherson Square just blocks from the White House, after reports that the suspect might have spent time there. Protesters there said on Wednesday that the police had been through their encampment several times since then, showing around a photograph of Mr. Ortega.

Yes, that’s right, our suspected shooter apparently spent time with Occupy.

But the memo has obviously gone out throughout the entire journOlist community that this connection must be played down to where it hardly registers at all.

All-American Muslim

WALID SHOEBAT:

The brand new TV show featured on Cable TV channel TLC tries to depict Muslims as “ordinary patriotic” Americans but fails to deliver in its very first episode by featuring a radical Shia Imam Husham Al- Husainy. In the first episode the Imam is featured marrying a male convert to Islam to a secular Muslim women. The Imam was exposed on the Sean Hannity Show back in February 2007. I remember listening to the actual interview live in which it was obvious the Imam supports Hezbollah a terror entity listed by the State Department. The Imam hates the the USA and Israel. You can hear in the interview what a nut job the Imam is and his gymnastics and crazy attacks in order to avoid answering simple questions.

The main stream media continues to propagate the illusion of a moderate Islam and moderate Muslims. The only moderate Muslims that can exist and based on the way the show is presented are the Muslims who act in a very secular way and the Muslims who follow the faith closely are a major problem when it both comes to sympathizing with terror or actually supporting it. Even the “secular” Muslims still have tribal instinct to side with the tribe rather than side with righteousness. We will continue to monitor the show as it progresses through the season.

The OWS Legal Team

Patrick Brennan:

Yesterday, lawyers for the Occupy Wall Street movement successfully filed for a temporary restraining order with a New York court. On paper, at least — the Bloomberg administration did not comply — Justice Lucy Billings’s ruling allowed the protesters to return to Zuccotti Park between yesterday morning’s eviction and yesterday afternoon’s full hearing. She temporarily barred the city and the private owners of the park from preventing the occupation or keeping the occupiers from setting up tents.

An Important New Book on China

By Tony Blankley:

[...]

Just as the authors are ferocious on the Chinese regime, they are just as tough on the Washington elites who help the Chinese. The authors name names and present chapter and verse of how China — and their American allies — penetrate U.S. business and government secrets. The failure of our government to even begin to resist the Chinese threat is aptly described as a bipartisan failure of both vision and will, if not patriotism. But it is fair to say that President Obama, in particular, will not enjoy reading this book, although he would vastly benefit from reading it, as would the country if he were to act on the authors’ advice.

Zakaria’s Iran Misconceptions

Nathaniel Botwinick:

In 2009, Fareed Zakaria wrote an article asserting that “everything you know about Iran is wrong.” Following the release of a report by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Tuesday, November 8, it seems, rather, that Mr. Zakaria was wrong about everything. Zakaria suggested that Iran did not really want an atomic bomb; instead, it “could well be happy with a peaceful civilian program.” However, according to the IAEA report, Iran is not content with a civilian nuclear program, and is quickly developing nuclear-weapons capabilities. Iran is currently engaged in several projects that have no applicability for a civilian program, e.g., research on nuclear-payload delivery systems.

In his essay, Zakaria accepted Iranian leaders’ solemn pronouncements that they had no desire to acquire nuclear weapons. Both President Ahmadinejad and supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei declared that atomic bombs were “un-Islamic,” and Zakaria swallowed their statements. He did not seem to consider that strategic considerations make it prudent for the Iranians to disavow any nuclear ambitions. Throughout history, most nations have denied pursuing aggressive ambitions when a confession would have brought international opprobrium.

Media Throws Israel Under the Bus

by Simon Plosker:

In the battle for public opinion, Israel’s enemies often claim that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is based on racial discrimination, apartheid laws and segregation. The goal is convince the public that Israel is like apartheid South Africa and therefore lacking in legitimacy.

In the latest effort to draw false analogies based on race, a Palestinian media stunt has attempted to twist the spirit of Martin Luther King and the American civil rights movement of the 1960s as six Palestinians boarded an Israeli bus in the West Bank in order to demonstrate Israeli “segregation” of Palestinians.

Judging by the amount of coverage, the international media was only too happy to give this publicity stunt exactly what it craved.

As the BBC acknowledged:

Egypt: The Revolution That Wasn’t

by Anna Mahjar-Barducci:

In a recent demonstration in Washington against Egypt’s persecution of its Copts, a demonstrator was chanting that Egyptians do not want another dictator; that since the so-called Egyptian Revolution, nothing had changed. He was holding a banner that showed the face of Egypt’s former President, Hosni Mubarak, becoming that of Field Marshal Mohammed Hussein Tantawi, Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces [SCAF] and the current de facto head of Egypt.

Egyptian television is still in the grip of the regime; and cartoons that an Egyptian man turning into a donkey after having watched State-run media channels, circulate over the internet. The Emergency Laws have remained in place, and presidential elections may be pushed to 2013, or — as in the tradition of dictatorships — might not even happen at all. The one thing that did change, however, was the face of the dictator, from Mubarak to Tantawi.

Norway Embraces Islamist Tyranny

by Bruce Bawer:

Anti-Semitism in Norway, where I have lived for twelve years, is over the top. I have never quite gotten used to it. Every now and then I hear or read something that reminds me that I am living in Europe, in a country that was occupied by the Nazis, and where a lot of people were perfectly okay with that. I think it is fair to say that anti-Semitism in Norway is most virulent among the cultural elite – the academics, intellectuals, writers, journalists, politicians, and technocrats – although thanks to the media and schools, it has trickled down to many ordinary Norwegians, some of whom may never even have met a Jewish person.

This anti-Semitism manifests itself in various ways. When Obama became president, former Norwegian prime minister Kåre Willoch said things did not look promising because Obama had “chosen a Jew as chief of staff.”

Liberals, Israel and Disaster

By James Lewis:

Liberals start from false premises. False premises always lead to false conclusions. Being stuck with delusional belief systems, they keep running into brick walls, getting bloody noses, and being surprised every time it happens. Then they fix up their false beliefs — mostly by blaming any adults in the vicinity — and go back to their delusions, having learned nothing.

Only to run into another brick wall. (Repeat from the top.)

This is the stuff of the Keystone Kops comedy, but it’s funny only until one of them gets into the White House. Jimmy Carter. Bill Clinton (who had four chances to get bin Laden handed over without a shot being fired). And now we have the most mentally stuck hero of them all, Barack Hussein Obama.

Israel shares every delusional disorder of the West — like radical left-wingers. The left is a cultic delusion both here and there, because they deny reality, make up their own, and then try to steer the supertanker of state using imaginary maps.

Nothing gives you that ‘right’

Lorne Gunter, National Post:

Many of us are rightsilliterate. For an example, take a look at the Occupy movement, as most of its major camps are being shut down across North America by tolerant municipalities that have finally lost patience with protesters camping in and trashing public and private parks.

Some of the rousted Occupiers have claimed their removal is a denial of their freedom of expression and freedom of assembly. One Canadian protester wondered angrily and rhetorically how a local bylaw against camping in a public park could trump his Charter rights to speak his mind and to join with others to demonstrate.

That is what I mean about being rights illiterate.

Elena Kagan Must Be Recused In ObamaCare Case

IBD:

Should a justice who participated in ObamaCare’s creation recuse herself from the court’s review of that law? Of course. But then a nominee who lies in confirmation hearings shouldn’t be on the court anyway.

If Justice Elena Kagan were a person of character, she would sit out the Supreme Court’s hearing of the challenge to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

But during her confirmation hearings in June of last year, she indicated she would not. And since this Monday, when the court announced it would take the case, she has done nothing to suggest she will recuse herself after all. Nor has the court made any statement about her recusal, a convention it usually follows when a justice takes himself or herself off a case.

Here are the facts on Kagan:

The Christians of Egypt, Part I

by Michael J. Totten:

Egypt’s Christians are second-class citizens. They were second-class citizens during the rule of Hosni Mubarak, and they aren’t remotely likely to acquire new rights after his fall.

Sectarian clashes between Christians and Muslims are rising. The problem is nowhere near as bad as it was in Iraq between Sunnis and Shias after the removal of Saddam Hussein, but it is getting worse. The army is doing only a half-assed job protecting Egypt’s largest minority, and it even participated in the violence itself and killed dozens when the driver of an army truck rammed himself into a crowd of Coptic Christian demonstrators last month.

Barbara from Harlem – Patriot Powderkeg

by The Right Scoop:

I got this on a tip from Williamm and it is excellent. This from the YouTube description:

Tea Parties United is a growing federation of New York and New Jersey Tea Party groups that is making an impact in the lower Hudson Valley. TPU held a rally at the Platzi Brauhaus in Pomona, NY on Saturday afternoon, October 15, 2011. Close to 300 people attended the four-hour event..

Several notable speakers inspired the crowd, but nobody electrified the patriots like Barbara from Harlem. If you don’t know of Barbara, she is a frequent caller to the Mark Levin national talk radio show.

Peace In Our Time

by Dr. Yasser Dasmabebi:

So, in the service of creating a discourse for which the expression of the yearning for peace and brotherly love are the ultimate fulfillment, and for which Palestinian society is universally known, I have compiled a short, though naturally far-from-complete, list of quotations from notable Palestinian political and devout religious leaders — almost all of whose salaries are paid by Palestinian governing bodies, and whose money is therefore donated by European and American governments, and thus by you, the taxpayers — SHUKRAN! –, who yearn for nothing more than a Jew-free country living in peace and harmony, so that we can return to our first love: reading and reciting beautiful poetry.

The Keystone Evasion

by Rich Trzupek:

As a senator, Barack Obama was addicted to this particular word: “present.” Time and again Senator Obama employed his favorite word to avoid taking a position on the great issues of the day. Once he was elected president, voting “present” seemed to no longer be an option. Or so we thought.

The president’s decision not to make a decision on the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline is, in all effects, another present vote. Caught between two opposing points of view, Obama understood that taking one side or another was fraught with political consequences. So, he did what he does best: the president kicked the can down the road.

On the one hand, this administration’s singular inability to do anything to fight unemployment is a huge liability as we roll into the next election cycle. Construction of the Keystone XL pipeline would ultimately bring about 800,000 barrels per day of Canadian oil down to U.S. refineries, would create hundreds of thousands of permanent jobs, and would secure an important source of non-OPEC oil.

Solyndra: Energy Dept. pushed firm to keep layoffs quiet until after midterms

By Carol D. Leonnig and Joe Stephens:

The Obama administration urged officers of the struggling solar company Solyndra to postpone announcing planned layoffs until after the November 2010 midterm elections, newly released e-mails show.

Solyndra, the now-shuttered California company, had been a poster child of President Obama’s initiative to invest in clean energies and received the administration’s first energy loan of $535 million. But a year ago, in October 2010, the solar panel manufacturer was quickly running out of money and had warned the Energy Department it would need emergency cash to avoid having to shut down.

Michael Moore explains why he’s different from other multi-millionaires

Kelly McParland:

Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Page, Sergey Brin, Michael Dell, Steve Ballmer, the Mars family, Paul Allen — they all made their money by making things, the good old-fashioned honourable way.

Many invented new products that gave birth to previously unimagined industries and put tens of thousands of people to work, generating the revenue to support hundreds of thousands more. Computers, chocolate bars, software … it’s all stuff in demand, stuff people make with their hands, that pays well, funds mortgages and provides a degree of security for the future.

The only exception, in fact, is Soros, who got rich by playing with money but is exempted by the left because he supports their causes.

Were they all born rich? Bezos was born to a teen mother in Albuquerque. His stepfather was a Cuban immigrant who arrived alone at 15 and worked his way through school. Ellison’s mother was an unwed 19-year-old who sent him to be adopted by an aunt and uncle; he grew up in a two-bedroom apartment in Chicago. Bloomberg is the son of a Boston real estate agent. Zuckerberg’s father is a dentist. The recently-deceased Steve Jobs was given away by his parents at birth. His adoptive father was a machinist, his mother an accountant.

These are no silver-spoon fed plutocrats. So what makes Michael Moore so much worthier than them? Does he think his concern for the working class is greater than theirs? They’ve created more jobs, generated more money for mortgages and families, donated more money to worthy causes than Michael Moore can ever hope to. They built their own careers with their own hands, even invented their own products. Did Michael Moore invent documentaries? But they’re the 1% and he’s not. They’re to be despised and he’s not.

New data refutes warmist hypothesis

Thomas Lifson:

Warmists and their media allies are averting their eyes from new scientific data from Japan that demonstrates some of the flaws in global warming theory (called “settled science” by those who refuse to look at all the evidence). Dr. Tim Ball, a climatologist unafraid to take on the warmist machine, explains why CO2 cannot possibly be the cause of global warming, in terms readily comprehensible by nonscientists. In essence, the assumptions about how man-made CO2 drives global warming do not stand up to the data. This is known as “disproving” a scientific hypothesis.

The map below shows the production and absorption of CO2 globally as measured by satellite:
