Rush: Romney won’t endorse Kasich union referendum, but lefty paper will

by The Right Scoop:

Romney is once again pandering, this time to unions. From Peter Hamby with CNN:

Incredible moments in politics: Romney visits OH GOP phone bank to rally troops opposing SB5 repeal, but refuses to take a position on SB5

How ridiculous is this? He won’t take a position on it, yet he shows up to ‘rally the troops’? According to Hotair, he actually supported it in June. But now he can’t?

This is EXACTLY why I refuse to support Romney for the nomination. He is nothing more than a political opportunist who thinks more votes than he does of principles.

Senators Outraged U.S. Borrowing Big From China While Also Giving It Aid

By Jim Angle:

China is one of the biggest economies in the world and grew at more than 9 percent over the last year. It also has loaned more than $1 trillion to the U.S. to fund its deficit-spending.

But at the same time, the U.S. sends foreign aid to China, which lawmakers of all stripes say is just plain nuts.

Obama Doctrine: Ignore American Interests

Mona Charen:

Two successful assassinations — those of Awlaki and bin Laden — have persuaded some that President Obama, whatever his domestic failures, has presided over a successful foreign policy. This is way too generous. In fact, (with the exception of targeted assassinations and the surge in Afghanistan) the president seems to conduct foreign policy based on seat-of-the-pants responses to events, rather than relying on any overarching strategy. And his reactions to events are more often based upon reversing what he regards as past American sins than on pursuing America’s interests in the world.

UNDER PERSECUTION

Zhang Rongliang:
Location: China
Arrested: December 2004
Days Imprisoned: 2464

Released Aug. 31, 2011
Print Fact Sheet
09/28/2007 Update

Pastor Zhang Rongliang was sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison. According to China Aid Association the verdict was issued by Zhongmu County People’s Court.

Pastor Zhang Rongliang, a prominent Chinese house church leader, was arrested in a rented apartment at Xuzhai village the afternoon of December 1, 2004. Zhang already had spent 12 years in prison for his faith during five separate detentions. He experienced harsh torture, including electric shock, during his previous prison terms. After being held in prison for a year, officials attempted to transfer him from a prison in Xinmi to one in Zhongmu. Fearing that because of his fragile condition he might die, officials at Zhongmu would not accept him. He was instead taken to a hospital in Xinmi.

Pastor Zhang suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure in addition to other chronic health problems. Later he was transferred to a Zhongmu City hospital where he spent most of February and March 2006.

He appeared in court April 6, 2006, more than 16 months after his arrest, for his third hearing on charges of “attaining a passport through cheating” and “illegal border crossing.” At this hearing the court acknowledged there was insufficient evidence for the case and asked for legal advice from a higher court.

Pastor Zhang Released

After seven and half years of in prison, Pastor Zhang Rongliang was released. Even though he was tortured and even faced death, Zhang intends to continue ministering and living for the Lord. He has moved to a coastal town to live with a family member, rest, spend quiet time with God and seek his will for future ministry.

Pastor Rongliang thanks the Lord and all those who prayed for him during his time in prison. It is uncertain whether government officials are keeping him under surveillance. Please pray for Zhang as he recovers and continues ministering in China.

From Tunisia To The Justice Department: A Clean Sweep For Islam

by Clare M. Lopez:

Across a vast expanse of the Muslim world, from Tunisia to Pakistan, the forces of Islam are rising. Tunisian voters have given the Al Nahda (Muslim Brotherhood) party a dominant position in the national assembly that will write the country’s new constitution. In Libya, Chairman of the National Transitional Council, Mustafa Abdel Jalil, has declared he seeks to make Islamic law the basis for legislation.

Honor Horror Trial Opens in Canada

by Stephen Brown:

“May the devil s**t on their graves.”- Mohammad Shafia

These charming words, picked up by a police wiretap, were Mohammad Shafia’s ghoulish reaction almost three weeks after the murder of his three daughters and first wife, whose deaths he is accused of orchestrating. Daughters Zanaib, 19, Sahar, 17, Geeti, 13, by all appearances beautiful and vibrant teenagers, filled with life, and first wife Rona Mohammad, were found dead in a family vehicle in a canal near Kingston, Ontario, in June 2009. Authorities gave drowning as the cause of death.

Gaddafi: A U.N. Value

By Peggy Shapiro:

Until shortly before Gaddafi crawled out of a drain pipe and met his violent end, he was the darling of the United Nations and the “international community.”

It is perplexing why a criminal and brutal dictator would garner the accolades of an organization whose charter calls for “reaffirming faith in fundamental human rights … and living together in peace with one another as good neighbours[.]“

Gaddafi’s criminal record was long and sordid. He sponsored terrorist groups ranging from Baader Meinhof to Abu Nidal and provided compensation to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers.

The Pope, Chaplain to OWS? Rubbish

By George Weigel:

“Rubbish, rubbish, rubbish,” says voice therapist Lionel Logue to King George VI as the brassy Australian walks the about-to-be-crowned king through a particularly orotund part of the coronation ceremony in The King’s Speech. Logue’s comment nicely sums up the media and Catholic Left commentary on a “Note” released today by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, “Towards Reforming the International Financial and Monetary System in the Context of Global Public Authority.”

Drudge got it wrong: “Vatican Calls for ‘Central World Bank’.” CNBC got it wrong: “The Vatican called on Monday for the establishment of a ‘global public authority’ and a ‘central world bank’.” The best of the Italian Vaticanisti, Sandro Magister of L’espresso, linked Occupy Wall Street and “the Vatican at the Barricades” in the headline of his insta-commentary, a theme also harped upon by the deposed editor of America, Fr. Thomas Reese, S.J.

All of which was “rubbish, rubbish, rubbish.”

Catholics, Finance, and the Perils of Conventional Wisdom

By Samuel Gregg:

Despite the Catholic Left’s excited hyperventilating that the document released today by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace (PCJP) would put the Church “to the left of Nancy Pelosi” on economic issues, more careful reading of “Towards Reforming the International Financial and Monetary Systems in the Context of Global Public Authority” soon indicates that it reflects rather conventional contemporary economic thinking.

Regular TBK reader Linda notes: ‘This particular document was publicly released, as well as apparently being addressed TO the Pope, who had not yet seen it. It’s not a church document per se, nor is it in any way binding on Catholics, though it’s being spun that way. It’s a classic example of being blindsided, and on a topic that popes or any given bishop or priest has no more expertise than any given layperson…’

Report: Obama’s Muslim Advisers Block Middle Eastern Christians’ Access to the White House

by El Cid:

From a Middle East correspondent:

Beirut Arab news agency al Nashra reported on Saturday November 22, that [White House Muslim envoy] Dalia Mogahed has succeeded in canceling a meeting between the Maronite Patriarch of Lebanon and President Barack Obama. Writing in al Nashra, the reporter said “an unnamed US source told the news agency, that those who sought canceling a visit of (the spiritual head of the Maronite Church) Patriarch Beshara Rahi to the White House are Dalia Mujahid (Mogahed), the highest adviser on Arab and Islamic Affairs in the State Department, who is from Egyptian origins. And that,” according to al Nashra, “heeding a request by the higher leadership of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, who consider that US Administration must support the Islamist Sunni current facing the Iranian current in the region.”

The al Nashra report, circulating now widely in the Middle East, but also in the United States and across the Lebanese Christian Diaspora confirms what was already known about the impact the so-called “advisors on Arab and Islamic Affairs” in the White House on Middle East issues in general and on US policies regarding the Christians in the Middle East.

In Mideast, U.S. Policy Is In Shambles

IBD:

As the U.S. careens from debacle to debacle, our policy in the Middle East is now in disarray. American influence is waning, as radical Islamists take over in nation after nation. The damage may be irreversible.

Arab Spring has given way to Arab Fall, and things aren’t going well. Not only is Israel, our best friend and only true ally in the region, under siege by its Arab neighbors, but we seem to be walking away from the problem.

Meanwhile, in country after country, those who hate the West in general and the U.S. in particular are making great strides. Increasingly, Iran seems to be the victor. It has long sought to replace the U.S. as the area’s dominant influence. Now its hand has been strengthened by the feckless and self-defeating diplomacy carried out by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and, of course, President Obama.

Another New York Times Activist

IBD:

Is the New York Times a news organization or a front for left-wing activists? Reporter Natasha Lennard was filmed leading an Occupy Wall Street panel, offering radicals tips on keeping their identities secret. Openly.

In a video that appeared on BigGovernment.com, Lennard, a Times freelance reporter who was arrested with 700 other leftists for shutting down the Brooklyn Bridge this month, revealed herself to be within the actual leadership of the Occupy Wall Street protest movement.

Along with four other “comrades,” she addressed a roomful of people at a bookstore in Manhattan, officiously advising the fractious movement on how to win.

Hillel C. Neuer:

In reaction, UN Watch today urged Ban Ki-moon and UN rights chief Navi Pillay to investigate why nothing was ever done to stop Jean Ziegler, the UNHRC’s former “Special Rapporteur on the right to food,” and to call on Ziegler to resign from his continuing council mandates on hunger. As a member of the UNHRC’s Advisory Committee, Ziegler continues to participate on right-to-food drafting groups, and has been mandated to work on related reports, background papers and studies for the council.

Earlier this year, Swiss TV confirmed UN Watch’s findings that Ziegler has been covering up his key role as founder of the “Muammar Al-Gaddafi International Prize for Human Rights.” A coalition of 45 NGOs led by UN Watch have called on Ziegler to resign. While many European and anti-Western journalists continue to treat Ziegler as a respected authority, the Salzburg Music Festival, citing UN Watch’s findings, disinvited Ziegler from delivering this summer’s keynote address.

UN Watch also called on Olivier De Schutter, the council’s current special rapporteur, who addressed the UN General Assembly today, to repudiate Ziegler’s politicized path.

Earlier this year, Mr. De Schutter, who has often expressed admiration for his predecessor, praised Syria’s Assad regime in a major report. His statements often blame the West and Israel.

Antibody offers hope for multiple sclerosis treatment

Duncan Graham-Rowe:

Multiple sclerosis attacks the central nervous system, and there are few effective treatments.MEDICAL BODY SCANS/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY

The first drug to show signs of not just halting multiple sclerosis (MS), but actually reversing the nerve damage caused by the condition, has taken a significant step towards clinical approval.

The results of a phase III trial, presented on 22 October at the 5th Joint Triennial Congress of the European and Americas Committees for Treatment and Research in Multiple Sclerosis, in Amsterdam, found that 78% of patients treated with the monoclonal antibody alemtuzumab remained free from relapse after two years — and half the relapse rate of one of the standard therapies, interferon β-1a (marketed as Rebif, among other names).

Jewish Rights to Palestine Are Guaranteed by International Law

Eli E. Hertz:

Successive Israeli governments have failed to recognize the supreme importance of the “Mandate for Palestine” [24 July, 1922] a historical League of Nations document that set forth the irrevocable Jewish legal rights to settle anywhere in western Palestine, the area between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, an entitlement unaltered by international law and valid to this day.

Leadership, both in Israel and in the Diaspora do practically nothing effective with the best legal weapon they will ever have: “The Mandate for Palestine.”

In the first Report of the High Commissioner on the Administration of Palestine (1920-1925) presented to the British Secretary of State for the Colonies, and published in April 1925, the most senior official of the Mandate underscored how international guarantees for the existence of a Jewish National Home in Palestine were achieved:
