Europe Is Beyond Rescue
David Warren:
And once again, let me emphasize: no banks, no economy. No economy, no jobs; and incidentally, no tax revenue. The fatuous “Occupy Wall Street” movement is premised on the notion that this isn’t true, that all bank l end ing should be taken for free money, if the borrowers aren’t in a mood to repay. And while they represent the lunatic fringe, a substantial part of every western electorate nods approvingly towards them, without bothering to think through what they are approving.
It was upon such electorates the Nanny States were built; and in turn, within such Nanny States that incredibly irresponsible public attitudes were cultivated. The very impulse to blame everything that has gone wrong on the greed of “bankers” and “capitalists” betrays a world view that is essentially insane, and now shifting, under pressure, towards malice.
Which is hardly to say bankers and capitalists are without blame. They played along with fanciful regulatory regimes, from shortterm self-interest. They knowingly accepted a dream world in which paper is backed by paper in infinite recession, and applied all their wits to devising the clever instruments by which they themselves were fooled.

A taste of the medicine
by William A. Jacobson:
The story was a legitimate issue for a presidential candidate; we only wish the mainstream media would investigate Obama’s past with half as much enthusiasm.
But there’s a bigger point here, visible only from 35,000 feet.
This is a taste of the medicine the mainstream media, which includes Politico as I have pointed out before, has in store for the eventual Republican nominee.
Whatever the source of the tip, the presentation was rolled out by Politico in a fashion to do maximum damage to Cain. The Sunday release was timed to be all over the media on Monday morning. Jonathan Martin, the lead reporter on the story for Politico, even conducted an ambush interview with Cain shortly after the story broke, receiving a muddled response from Cain.

Where are the Muslim Brotherhood and the Obama Administration Taking America?
Dr. Essam Abdallah:
These reports reveal the depth of the below-the-surface coordination between the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), Hamas, Hezbollah, the Iranian regime and the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, Syria, Tunisia, Libya and Jordan. This bloc of regimes and organizations is now becoming the greatest Islamist radical lobby ever to penetrate and infiltrate the White House, Congress, the State Department and the main decision making centers of the US government. All of this is happening at a time when the US government is going through its most strategically dangerous period in modern times because of its need to confront the Iranian Mullahs regime, which is expanding in the Middle East, as well as penetrating the United States, via powerful and influential allies.

UNESCO Makes Its Choice on PA Membership
By John Bolton
UNESCO, true to form, has voted today to admit the Palestinian Authority as a member. So ineffective was Obama administration diplomacy that France voted in favor of Palestinian membership, and Britain and Japan abstained.

It All Started When Israel Fired Back… Again!
by Simon Plosker:
IAF Targeting Terror Facilities (Photo: IDF Website)
Haven’t we been here before? Palestinian terrorists launch or attempt to launch rockets from Gaza on to Israeli towns and cities and Israel responds.
So who is ultimately responsible? And which side is engaged in aggressive acts and which is carrying out defensive measures? You’d think it was obvious.
But not to some of the media covering a barrage of Palestinian missiles that killed one Israeli, injured a number of others and brought terror to the residents of Israel’s south.
Indeed, HonestReporting’s new slideshow “Defending Israel Against Claims of Excessive Force” contains many examples of the kinds of reporting repeated below.

ACLU: Obama “Authorizing Agencies to Lie”
Seth Mandel:
While the Obama administration’s hostility to transparency is well known, its latest scheme would break new ground in government secrecy. The administration’s proposed changes to the Freedom of Information Act guidelines would allow the Department of Justice to deny the existence of documents and prevent judicial oversight.
The ACLU says the rule changes would “dramatically undermine government integrity,” and the Sunlight Foundation, in a post that lays out fifteen ways the new rules would undermine transparency, notes that while most coverage has “focused on the DOJ’s desire to lie about the existence of records… DOJ’s efforts to undermine FOIA go well beyond dishonest requests.” Today’s Washington Examiner editorial explains what is so harmful about the changes:

Lying, cheating climate scientists caught lying, cheating again
By James Delingpole:
“So I’m not going to die after all? Quelle bloody surprise!”
Oh dear. I really didn’t want my first blog post in a week to be yet another one about global bloody warming. Problem is, if those lying, cheating climate scientists will insist on going on lying and cheating what else can I do other than expose their lying and cheating?
The story so far: ten days ago a self-proclaimed “sceptical” climate scientist named Professor Richard Muller of Berkeley University, California, managed to grab himself some space in the Wall Street Journal (of all places) claiming that the case for global warming scepticism was over. Thanks to research from his Berkeley Earth Surface Temperatures (BEST) project, Professor Muller stated confidently, we now know that the planet has warmed by almost one degree centigrade since 1950. What’s more, he told the BBC’s Today programme, there is no sign that this global warming has slowed down.
Cue mass jubilation from a number of media outlets which, perhaps, ought to have known better – among them, the Independent, the Guardian, The Economist and Forbes magazine. To give you an idea of their self-righteous indignation at the supposed ignorance of climate change deniers, here is the Washington Post’s Eugene Robinson in full spate:

Unlike the rest of us, if Wall St. bank execs commit fraud, no one goes to jail
By Lorrie Goldstein:
The more you study the 2008 global economic meltdown, the more you realize there really is one law for the rich and one law for the rest of us.
If you or I are caught committing fraud, there’s a good chance we’ll end up going to prison, or at least be ordered to pay restitution and placed under house arrest.
But if the executives of a Wall St. bank do it, not only does no one go to jail, their companies pay the fine, none of them are held personally responsible and they don’t have to admit wrongdoing.

Teaching Your Child to be a Dictator’s Lackey
by Daniel Greenfield:
Imagine your child’s school teaching him how wonderful dictatorships are by having him and his friends model their very own group of dictatorships as part of their education. Like so many other Orwellian nightmares in the American educational system, this one is very real and takes place through the Model UN program.
The Model UN program teaches American students that global government is better than national government and that the corrupt kleptocracy on Turtle Bay is the ideal state of mankind. Finally it trains them to put American presidents on trial for violating United Nations laws.
Twenty-two Model UN events are scheduled to take place in November alone and many more are set to follow month after month throughout the school year as the advocates of global government exploit the school system to indoctrinate a new generation in their roles as servants of the conclave of totalitarian regimes.

The Left Is Seldom Right
by Jamie Glazov:
Frontpage Interview’s guest today is Norman Berdichevsky, a contributing editor for New English Review and the author of more than 200 articles and book reviews that have appeared in a variety of American, British, Danish, Israeli and Spanish periodicals. He is the author of the new book, The Left is Seldom Right.
FP: Norman Berdichevsky, welcome to Frontpage Interview.
Berdichevsky: Thank you so much. It is both an honor and a pleasure to reach FrontPage readers.
FP: Tell us what inspired you to write this book.
Berdichevsky: I wrote this book and chose its title to primarily reach those, who like myself, grew up in an ultra liberal environment, assuming that the “left is always right”. As I grew older, I discovered that many of my assumptions that I received as “conventional wisdom” in the area of politics from my family, neighbors, and friends in the Bronx proved to be faulty, misleading or wrong. This discovery was further illuminated by my experiences in doing research at graduate school and many years residence abroad in Israel, Denmark, Spain and the U.K.

The UN’s Indifference to Dead Jews
by Joseph Klein:
The “international community” is always quick to blame Israel for any reprisals it takes against Palestinian terrorists. Accusations of “collective punishment,” “disproportionate force,” and “extrajudicial targeted assassinations” are regularly hurled at Israel from the chambers of the dysfunctional Human Rights Council and other United Nations bodies, including the UN Security Council.
Yet when Israel seeks even the mildest of rebukes from the Security Council for continued rocket attacks launched against Israeli civilians from Hamas-controlled Gaza, it is met with stone-faced silence.

Another ‘scientific consensus’ bites the dust

It turns out that human beings have been using tools a lot longer than the scientific consensus used to allow. A dissident scientist, who discovered the proof almost 35 years ago, stands vindicated, thanks to the development of technology. Craig Welch of the Seattle Times reports:

Slouching toward the 1930s
By Monty Pelerin:
The current economic crisis rivals the one of the 1930s. Despite shameless propaganda by government and its cronies in the media, people understand that the situation is getting worse. Consumer confidence continues to decline as does confidence in the future.
We are headed for an event that history will record as worse than the Great Depression. It is unavoidable.

Eurosceptics have been vindicated. They warned from the start that EMU was a dysfunctional under-taking and that in order to stop it leading to calamitous failure, there would have to be ever deeper intrusions into the affairs of each state and society.
This is now happening at a galloping pace. We really will end up an authoritarian supra-national octopus if this goes on much longer.
LAT: New DoJ rule on FOIA lies “outrageous”
Ed Morrissey:
Last week, I wrote about the Obama administration’s new transparency initiative, which would allow the Department of Justice to lie about the existence of documents to hide them from Freedom of Information Act requests, rather than having to explain why the DoJ won’t release them. For a man who ran on the idea of transparency as a key component of “Hope and Change,” the proposed rule — which would have the force of law — flagrantly destroys any hope of government transparency at all. The Los Angeles Times gives Barack Obama a double-barreled blast in its lead editorial today, and suggests that Obama go back and reread his own speeches:

Egypt’s Massacre of Christians: What the Media Does Not Want You To Know
by Raymond Ibrahim:
Western media coverage of the recent massacre of Coptic Christians in Cairo, Egypt—in which the military killed dozens of Christians and injured some 300—was, as discussed earlier, deplorable. It merely repeated the false propaganda of the complicit state-run media, without checking facts. Since then, further proofs of the lies and brutality surrounding the massacre have emerged; they are compiled in the following report which consists of documented facts and videos from Arabic sources—many of which have not appeared in the Western media.
This report documents: 1) the activities of the Supreme Military Council of Egypt and its de facto ruler; 2) the lies and duplicitous tactics of both the Military Council and its media mouthpiece, Egyptian TV; and 3) the anti-Christian sentiment pervading all aspects of this incident.
