OBAMA AND ISRAEL
Discover the Networks:
Barack Obama’s views regarding Israel are reflected in the actions he has taken, the words he has spoken, and the associations he has cultivated throughout the course of his adult life — and most importantly, throughout his political career. Below are some of the more noteworthy examples, starting in the early 1990s and continuing through the present day:

Confirmed: Harper Tories award $6 million grant to International Planned Parenthood
by Patrick B. Craine, (LifeSiteNews.com) –
After a leaked report Thursday morning indicated that Canada was about to refund the International Planned Parenthood Federation, the Canadian government has confirmed that they awarded a grant late Thursday to the abortion organization, the world’s largest abortion provider.
“Late yesterday, International Planned Parenthood Federation was informed that its application for funding has been approved under the Maternal, Newborns and Child Health commitment,” Justin Broekema, press secretary for Minister of International Cooperation Bev Oda, told LifeSiteNews Friday.

Global economy getting ready to blow
By MARK STEYN:
“It’s the end of the world as we know it,” sang the popular musical artistes REM many years ago. And it is. REM has announced that they’re splitting up after almost a third of a century. But these days who isn’t? The Eurozone, the world’s first geriatric boy band, is on the verge of busting apart. Chimerica, Professor Niall Ferguson’s amusing name for the Chinese-American economic partnership that started around the same time REM did, is going the way of Wham!, with Beijing figuring it’s the George Michael of the relationship and that it’s tired of wossname, the other fellow, who gets equal billing but doesn’t really do anything. The deeper problem may be that this is a double-act with two wossnames.

Durban III: The U.N., World’s Biggest Human Rights Abuser
by Adam Daifallah:
Get ready: tomorrow is R-Day at the United Nations: the World Conference Against Racism – a misnomer if there ever was one – a.k.a. Durban III, and the UN’s meeting on upgrading the Palestinians toward a seat at the U.N as a new member state from which they will be able better to propagate their outspoken efforts to delegitimize Israel in an effort eventually to supplant it.
This “one-two punch,” as Canadian Human Rights scholar Anne Bayefsky calls the Durban III Conference, will be the greatest attempt yet to delegitimize Israel in several years.

Watermelons v the Shale Gas Miracle
By James Delingpole:
God knows we could all do with some good news right now. And as it happens, from Oop North near Blackpool this week, we had good news in spades.
Sure, it was known Britain was sitting on some pretty sizeable shale gas deposits. What hadn’t been announced before though, was just how sizeable.
An area in northwest England may contain 200 trillion cubic feet of shale gas, putting it in the same league as some of the vast shale-gas plays that have transformed the U.S. energy industry.
The figure for the area near Blackpool, released Wednesday by Cuadrilla Resources, a small oil-and-gas company with operations in England’s Bowland Shale, highlights the U.K.’s emerging position as a new frontier for unconventional gas exploration.
I said “good news” but that seriously understates the case. It may be the best thing to happen to the British economy since the discovery of North Sea oil and gas; possibly since the Industrial Revolution. Those who’ve been following the story closely such as Nick Grealy at the No Hot Air blog understand this perfectly well:

The ultimate blood libel and hypocrisy in history
Abbas is unfit for political office and should be shunned for this vicious, patently false slander.
Hey Morgan, tell it to Tea Party-ers Herman Cain and Allen West
How very, very sad that this gifted man would stoop to demagoguery and slander to defend Obama on the basis of his colour, rather than on the basis of his policies and vision, which are clearly disastrous.
Media bias on display as NBC grills Suskind
by Byron York:
You want a quick and easy introduction to media bias? Just look at the reception given to author Ron Suskind when he appeared on NBC’s “Today” show this week to promote his new book, “Confidence Men,” which is critical of President Obama — and then compare it to the reception Suskind received in 2004 when he appeared on “Today” to tout another book,”The Price of Loyalty,” which was critical of President George W. Bush.
Start with the new book. The newsworthy bits in “Confidence Men” are well known: Suskind reports the Obama White House is tough on women, with former aide Anita Dunn calling it “a genuinely hostile workplace to women.” Suskind also says Obama’s top economic advisers had so little regard for the president that former National Economic Council chief Larry Summers said, “There’s no adult in charge.” And Suskind writes that on at least one occasion Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner ignored a clear directive from the president.
A lot of that is small-scale Washington chatter. The bigger picture from the book is one of a president not up to the job during perilous economic times.

Kenney lashes out at UN’s racism summit
By Tobi Cohen:
Canada’s boycott of a controversial United Nations conference on racism reached new heights Thursday as Immigration Minister Jason Kenney marked the 10 year anniversary of the event by ripping into organizers, calling them the “world’s most notorious human rights violators” whose sole objective is to attack the United States and Israel.
In an explosive speech in New York City Thursday, Kenney defended Canada’s decision to boycott Durban III, which was taking place simultaneously. He further condemned what he called the “new anti-Semitism” which, he said, targets the Jewish homeland rather than the Jewish people.

Stolen History
by Frontpagemag.com:
Palestinian Authority (PA) leader Mahmoud Abbas is poised to proceed with his bid for Palestinian statehood recognition at the UN, while Western powers are still clambering to forestall the effort and avert a regional diplomatic quagmire. At this juncture, we might ask ourselves how a terrorist entity like the PA, enmeshed in the genocidal campaign to wipe Israel off the map, has become the darling of the “human rights” wing of the UN. The answer lies in a deliberate rewriting of history, which has in effect created a nation in exile which has actually never existed.
Because there was never a state of “Palestine” nor a “Palestinian people,” those who promote the notion of a “Palestinian homeland,” where the Palestinians have lived from “time immemorial,” must create a faux-history to justify this claim. Stealing Israel’s history offers a short cut that also has the advantage of denying the legitimacy of the Jewish state. So Arab propagandists, supported by anti-Israel archaeologists, historians and scriptural scholars in the West, are hard at work erasing or denying all evidence of things Jewish in the Land of Israel and substituting the fictitious narrative of an ancient “Palestinian people,” whose presence in the land of Canaan stretches back for thousands of years.
This effort to perpetrate the historical equivalent of genocide is the subject of David Meir-Levi’s important new pamphlet, Stolen History: How the Palestinians and their Allies Attack Israel’s Right to Exist by Erasing its Past.

We’re Sinking Under Obama’s Policies
IBD:
Since this president took office, U.S. businesses have shed 3.3 million jobs. We are still 6.9 million below our peak employment reached in January 2008. Ordinarily, more than two years after a recession has ended, well over a million jobs have been added to payrolls.
By any meaningful measure, then, our president has followed the least-successful economic policies of any U.S. leader since World War II. As recession seems ever more possible, the IMF warns of a U.S. “lost decade.”
Whether it’s jobs, economic growth, energy prices, incomes, regulation, weak foreign policy, or the quality of our lives and the nation’s social fabric, America’s current course looks questionable at best.

High School Punishes Student for Saying Homosexuality is Wrong
Clinton Reinvents Israel
By ELLIOTT ABRAMS:
The errors and misstatements in Clinton’s interview with bloggers are sufficient to change his reputation from that of a firm supporter of Israel into that of a firm supporter of Israelis who agree with his twisted version of the facts. Clinton simply blames the Israeli right for killing peace efforts. He appears entirely—in fact, embarrassingly— unaware of what has actually happened to the Israeli right over the last ten years, where the change has been extraordinary.

I’ve always thought Clinton was an ignoramus, and so is his wife. As a result they are very dangerous and exponentially more so when in positions of power.
Video: Elie Wiesel at DurbanWatch
by Ed Morrissey:
Few men speak on the issue of anti-Semitism more powerfully than Elie Wiesel. A Romanian native, Wiesel survived the Holocaust and stands as a gentle but firm witness to its horrors. He spoke today at the Durban Watch conference in marked contrast to most of the rest of the speakers, whose speeches tended towards denunciations of the UN. Alan Dershowitz was particularly fired up, and perhaps Pajamas TV will break that out into a separate video (they’re streaming it live), because it’s really worth watching.
Wiesel took a more philosophical approach, and in a way, he gave one of the most powerful speeches of the day. Wiesel noted that he was supposed to be one of the original architects of the Durban conference, but once he saw the agenda, he resigned. Wiesel traveled to meet with Kofi Annan and predicted that the entire exercise would become an eruption of anti-Israeli demagoguery and anti-Semitic fervor. After the predictable occurred, Wiesel told the audience that Annan called him and said, “You were right.”
In one of the more moving passages of the speech, Wiesel told us that after the end of the Holocaust he believed that it would take ten generations for anti-Semitism to show its face in public. Instead, the UN is celebrating it in his lifetime.

Speed of light ‘broken’ by scientists
By Nick Collins:
The science world was left in shock when workers at the world’s largest physics lab announced they had recorded subatomic particles travelling faster than the speed of light – a feat that Einstein said was impossible.
If the findings are proven to be accurate, they would overturn one of the pillars of the Standard Model of physics, which explains the way the universe and everything within it works.
Einstein’s theory of special relativity, proposed in 1905, states that nothing in the universe can travel faster than the speed of light in a vacuum.
But researchers at the CERN lab near Geneva claim they have recorded neutrinos, a type of tiny particle, travelling faster than the barrier of 186,282 miles (299,792 kilometres) per second.
The results have so astounded researchers that American and Japanese scientists have been asked to verify the results before they are confirmed as a discovery.

The great euro swindle
Peter Oborne and Frances Weaver:
Finally, the Eurosceptics have been vindicated. But will their dishonest opponents ever be held to account?
Very rarely in political history has any faction or movement enjoyed such a complete and crushing victory as the Conservative Eurosceptics. The field is theirs. They were not merely right about the single currency, the greatest economic issue of our age — they were right for the right reasons. They foresaw with lucid, prophetic accuracy exactly how and why the euro would bring with it financial devastation and social collapse.
Meanwhile the pro-Europeans find themselves in the same situation as appeasers in 1940, or communists after the fall of the Berlin Wall. They are utterly busted.

Bolton on UN legitimacy at the Durban Watch conference
by Ed Morrissey:
I’m spending today at the Durban Watch conference, put on by the Hudson Institute and Touro College in opposition to the UN’s celebration of the 10-year anniversary of the Durban statement — and the efforts by the Palestinians to get the UN to recognize a Palestinian state. There have already been some terrific speeches. Alan Dershowitz set the room on fire, while Elie Wiesel spoke to the soul of the world. John Bolton gave a powerful speech as well, and I’ll have both the Bolton and Wiesel speeches later today on video. After the first set of speeches, Bolton, Wiesel, Dore Gold, and actor Jon Voight met with the press, and Bolton gave an interesting answer to a question about UN’s legitimacy:

The Real Iran
by Raymond Ibrahim:
The West’s endless supply of apologists — the sort who think it makes them appear “sophisticated” and “enlightened” to be tolerant of anything, so long as it doesn’t directly affect them — will likely argue that the Bible is just a book. As for “cracking down” on Christians, “Who knows,” these dedicated relativists will probably argue, “maybe Iran’s beleaguered Christian minority is just as bad as the Taliban?”
Here, then, is an indefensible example of Iran’s blatant savagery — proof that it should not cast stones until it joins the concert of civilized nations. According to Compass Direct News:

The Soros Plot to Topple Netanyahu
by Daniel Greenfield:
NGO transparency threatened the entire Soros empire and the passage of even a neutered bill meant that Israel might finally be ready to begin rolling back the peel on the rotten fruits of the Open Society Institute. First governments, then foreign funders, parliamentary inquiries into foreign funding, and then the loss of tax exempt status for left-wing NGOs waging a civil war.
The response came quickly. Less than two months later, Stanley Greenberg, whose firm had done work for OSI, presented a plan to use social protests to create a new majority against the government. Some of the funding for the protests came from fellow Shadow Party billionaire, S. Daniel Abraham.
Abraham was a former board member of Soros’ International Crisis Group and had provided the manpower for J Street, while the Soros money stayed hidden in the paperwork that no one was supposed to see. The president of Abraham’s eponymous organization is Robert Wexler, the former congressman from J Street and an adviser on the Middle East to the Obama campaign.
Netanyahu’s sharp exchange with Obama in May motivated even Democrats who weren’t in Soros’ vest pocket to find a way to force him out of office. It was no longer just fear of losing the Israeli left as their hand puppet – the American Jewish vote was in play. Replacing Netanyahu with a lefty eager to appease the terrorists would heal the split with Obama and Jewish voters.

Walter Russell Mead:
That’s what we’ve been seeing on world markets since Thursday trading began in Asia; this morning it hit the US with the kind of sickening thud we remember too well from 2008. Amid the general hurricane of bad economic news a few things stand out.
Chinese stocks fell almost 5 percent and key real estate company stocks were down by double digit percentages as fears grow that the long-delayed bursting of the China property bubble is here;
the European bank crisis is deepening, with the IMF sticking to its guns about the massive capital losses faced by the continent’s banks and BNP Paribas apparently trolling the Middle East in search of a big capital injection
the Federal Reserve’s new worries about the economy made a deeper impression on investors than its plans to support growth
some US banks are starting to look shaky again. There are many more reasons for concern.
