New Fast & Furious document: ATF bought guns with taxpayer money and sold them to illegal buyers directly

by Allahpundit:

In case anyone’s still bitterly clinging to the “botched sting” theory of this clusterfark, cling no longer:

According to documents obtained by Fox News, Agent John Dodson was ordered to buy six semi-automatic Draco pistols — two of those were purchased at the Lone Wolf gun store in Peoria, Ariz. An unusual sale, Dodson was sent to the store with a letter of approval from David Voth, an ATF group supervisor.

Dodson then sold the weapons to known illegal buyers, while fellow agents watched from their cars nearby.

This was not a “buy-bust” or a sting operation, where police sell to a buyer and then arrest them immediately afterward. In this case, agents were “ordered” to let the sale go through and follow the weapons to a stash house.

According to sources directly involved in the case, Dodson felt strongly that the weapons should not be abandoned and the stash house should remain under 24-hour surveillance. However, Voth disagreed and ordered the surveillance team to return to the office. Dodson refused, and for six days in the desert heat kept the house under watch, defying direct orders from Voth.

A week later, a second vehicle showed up to transfer the weapons. Dodson called for an interdiction team to move in, make the arrest and seize the weapons. Voth refused and the guns disappeared with no surveillance.

by The Right Scoop:

Mark Levin seemed to really enjoyed Obama’s gaffe from over the weekend confusing Jews and janitors, himself being a Jew.

It’s a fun clip:

Bibi The Peacemonger

IBD:

Outside of public view, Netanyahu is undoubtedly not counting his chickens. After all, in May he had to give President Obama a Mideast history lecture after our president said the indefensible pre-1967 borders should be the basis of negotiations.

Moreover, last week the ever-unhelpful Bill Clinton unjustly and absurdly declared that Netanyahu has no interest in peace. But in 2000 at Clinton’s Camp David talks between Yasser Arafat and former Israeli Prime Minister Barak, “It was the Palestinian side who walked away from his own parameters,” Netanyahu reminded Clinton and “Meet the Press” viewers.

The Palestinians and the leaders of Arab nations seem to be hoping that someday, an Obama/Clinton mindset will hold power long enough to force the Jewish state into surrender.

But Netanyahu warned that unilateral Israeli concessions invariably cause war. And he reminded the U.N. assembly that “when Israel left Lebanon” in 2000 “and Gaza” in 2005, “the moderates didn’t defeat the radicals; the moderates were devoured by the radicals.”

And he made it clear that “Israel is prepared to have a Palestinian state in the West Bank, but we’re not prepared to have another Gaza there. And that’s why we need to have real security arrangements, which the Palestinians simply refuse to negotiate with us.”

Britain’s message to Argentina over the Falklands: back off

By Nile Gardiner:

The Israeli-Palestinian issue dominated media coverage of the UN General Assembly meetings in New York last week. But almost completely slipping under the radar was a war of words between London and Buenos Aires over the Falklands sovereignty question. After a good deal of sabre-rattling by Argentine president Cristina Kirchner in the past few months, which included this rant back in June, the UK Mission to the United Nations issued a robust statement underscoring that Britain will not enter into any negotiations over the sovereignty of the islands:

Why Does the Good Life End?

by Victor Davis Hanson:

People just don’t disappear. Look at Germany in 1946 or Athenians in 339 B.C. They continue, but their governments and cultures end. Aside from the dramatic military implosions of authoritarian or tribal societies — the destruction of Tenochtitlan, the end of Nazism, the collapse of the Soviet Union, the annexation of tribal Gaul — what brings consensual states to an end, or at least an end to the good life?

The city-states could not stop 30,000 Macedonians in a way — when far poorer and 150 year earlier — they had stopped 300,000 Persians descending on many of the same routes. The French Republic of 1939 had more tanks and troops on the Rhine than the Third Reich that was busy overrunning Poland. A poorer Britain fought differently at el-Alamein than it does now over Libya. A British battleship was once a sign of national pride; today a destroyer represents a billion pounds stolen from social services.

Redistribution of wealth rather than emphasis on its creation is surely a symptom of aging societies. Whether at Byzantium during the Nika Riots or in bread and circuses Rome, when the public expects government to provide security rather than the individual to become autonomous through a growing economy, then there grows a collective lethargy.

Palestinian State Will Not Accept Palestinian Refugees

by David Meir-Levi:

In his op-ed to The New York Times on May 16, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas told the world in no uncertain terms that Palestinian statehood and UN recognition would not end the conflict:

Palestine’s admission to the United Nations would pave the way for the internationalization of the conflict as a legal matter, not only a political one. It would also pave the way for us to pursue claims against Israel at the United Nations, human rights treaty bodies and the International Court of Justice.

But no one seemed to notice that this admission contradicts the core argument for Palestinian statehood: The Palestinians are fighting for their state, so they have told the world, for their political self-determination, for their national self-realization; so the creation of a Palestinian state is the way to end the conflict.

Now we have a new iteration of this rather awkward contradiction in the words of the Palestinian Authority’s ambassador to Lebanon in an interview with the Lebanese English language newspaper, the Daily Star:

When we have a state accepted as a member of the United Nations, this is not the end of the conflict. This is not a solution to the conflict. This is only a new framework that will change the rules of the game.

And still no one seems to notice the contradiction here.

But in addition to telling the world that even after the so-called Palestinian people have their state they will continue the conflict, Ambassador Abdullah Abdullah went on to say that:

Frank Talk About Marriage: The New Anti-Defamation Project

By Kathryn Jean Lopez

Maggie Gallagher is heading up a new effort to protect and defend those whose livelihoods are threatened by their speaking up in defense of traditional marriage: the Marriage Anti-Defamation Alliance. She chats about the problem it seeks to address, as well as the state of the marriage debate:

KATHRYN JEAN LOPEZ: Who is Frank Turek and why should every American care to know him?

MAGGIE GALLAGHER: Frank Turek is a man whose contract was terminated by a major corporation when human resources found out he had written a book opposing same-sex marriage. He is on the front lines of an emerging trend we are hearing about: people losing jobs or other economic opportunities because they have written, spoken, donated, or otherwise peacefully exercised their core civil rights on behalf of marriage as the union of husband and wife.

Frank’s day job is leadership seminars for Fortune 500 companies. He also runs a ministry and has written a book against same-sex marriage titled Correct, Not Politically Correct: How Same-sex Marriage Hurts Everyone.

For many years Frank Turek has done seminars for Cisco, among many other companies. A student who attended his class Googled his name, found out he opposed same-sex marriage and said “I’m going to get Frank fired because he doesn’t represent Cisco values.” And this student succeeded.

A few weeks later Frank Turek was told by a Bank of America executive that his book opposing gay marriage meant he would not be asked to do a seminar again at Bank of America.

As Frank says, this is un-American — to say you have to have a certain view on gay marriage to be treated equally in the workforce.

Obama’s ‘Hate the Rich’ Campaign

By Lloyd Marcus:

In his so-called jobs speeches, Obama exploits class envy shrouded in fairness. President Obama continues to escalate his divisive assault on achievers, purposely pitting Americans against each other.

Obama’s “Hate the Rich” campaign appeals to our lower nature and encourages the sin of covetousness. If Obama’s despicable campaign proves successful, it will be a sad commentary about who we have become as a people and how far we have fallen as Americans.

Propaganda is War by Other Means

By Ted Belman:

There are those who embrace conspiracy theories of a government plan behind major attacks like 9-11 and Pearl Harbor, to lead us into war. As outlandish such theories appear to some, many embrace them because they believe that the government always manipulates public opinion to accept intended actions which the people would otherwise reject.

When a government intends a war of aggression, it must first inculcate hatred of the indented victim. This is done through propaganda which follows the following principles;

1) Select a target to be hated. Personalize it. Focus attention on it.

2) Keep messages on target. Avoid conflicting messages.

3) Attach labels and employ narratives causing the object of the hatred to be ridiculed, scorned and feared.

4) Have appropriate messengers deliver the messages. Thus a liberal delivers the message to a liberal and a Republican to Republicans and so on.

5) Keep hidden the communications of messages and the compensation between propaganda directors, media managers and content producers. Keep it secret.

7) Employ substantial numbers of creators of media content and media managers to ensure propaganda is script, timely and plentiful.

8) Make certain that the public believes that the creators and managers are independent.

9) Make few points and repeat them incessantly.

10) Have public personalities express out-loud contempt, scorn and fear of the target of hatred in order to render such expressions socially acceptable and to crystallize attitudes of hatred which otherwise would be fleeting.

Ga. Middle School: Muslim Polygamy Is Normal, Burkas Good For Women

by Warner Todd Huston:

A middle school in Smyrna, Georgia included in an assignment material that essentially shows 7th grade children that Islamic polygamy is a perfectly legitimate concept and that there is nothing wrong with the strict dress codes used to oppress Muslim women the world over.

The material was presented to the 7th graders at Campbell Middle School as part of a discussion of the school’s dress codes, apparently meant to use the ideas of Islamic culture for women’s clothing as some sort of example to compare how the school regulates clothing for its students in Georgia.

Israeli Father, Baby Killed After Palestinians Threw Rocks at Their Car, Causing it to Overturn

by Madeleine Morgenstern:

Israeli police said Sunday that 25-year-old Asher Palmer and his infant son Yonatan were killed in a terrorist attack after Palestinians threw rocks at their car, causing it to overturn on a highway.

It happened Friday near the Israeli settlement Kiryat Arba. Authorities originally said the wreck was due to driver error, not stone throwing, prompting accusations of a police cover up so as not to “fan the flames” of a potential Palestinian protest.

Human rights laws are eroding our democracy

By John Carpay, Calgary Herald:

Should a man be forced to pay $17,500 to four individuals who felt offended by the flyers he distributed?

The Supreme Court of Canada will decide this question in October, when it hears the case of Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission versus William Whatcott.

In 2001 and 2002, Whatcott peacefully distributed flyers in Regina and Saskatoon.

His flyers expressed opposition to teaching children in public schools about homosexuality, and also expressed, in polemical language, his religious objections to homosexual behaviour.

Abortion to save the life of a mother? Mom says no

by Don Surber:

To find out what is going on in the United States, I often have to turn to the British newspapers, as was the case with the report in the London Daily Mail: ” ‘The doctors told me to have an abortion’: Mother with cystic fibrosis defies medics to give birth to triplets.”

This was a miracle. A spokeswoman for the Cystic Fibrosis Fund said this was the first time a woman with cystic fibrosis gave birth to triplets. Ever.

Rachel Carson created a stink about DDT and millions of children have since paid the ultimate price

Bob Parks:

It’s not news environmentalists prefer trees, animals, and insects over people. In 1962 Rachel Carson chose nature, created a stink about DDT and millions of children have since paid the ultimate price.

According to the World Health Organization, there are between 300 million and 500 million cases of malaria every year, resulting in more than one million deaths, with about 90% of these deaths occurring in Africa, mostly to children under the age of five.

Of course, that ban conveniently went into affect after the United States was cleansed of the disease.

Now, President Obama has chosen a similar path.

Asthma patients who rely on over-the-counter inhalers will need to switch to prescription-only alternatives as part of the federal government’s latest attempt to protect the Earth’s atmosphere.

The action is part of an agreement signed by the U.S. and other nations to stop using substances that deplete the ozone layer, a region in the atmosphere that helps block harmful ultraviolet rays from the Sun.

Obama may have gone too far this time.

Bibi Grows Up and Other Thoughts from the United Nations

by Roger L Simon:

I haven’t always been the biggest fan of Benjamin Netanyahu. He seemed something of a careerist with the capacity to talk out of both sides of his mouth. In other words, a politician. But who could a decry anyone with the guts to stand in the belly of the United Nations — as he did last Friday — and define that paleo-corrupt institution precisely as it is — a “house of many lies”?

Netanyahu’s speech to a joint session of Congress back in May was also widely applauded by a friendly audience. But this address — before a body that welcomes Iranian President Ahmadinejad for the so-called Durban III conference against racism, an inversion of human rights not even Orwell could have imagined — was in the least collegial of atmospheres.

And yet his talk was extremely eloquent and well-delivered. In an atmosphere former NY Mayor Koch describes as a “cesspool,” Netanyahu was the only man, the only statesman, genuinely to stand up for the principles of guilt-ridden Western civilization.

Noteworthy too is that the Israeli PM speaks (and no doubt writes) the English language far better than any of our presidential candidates, not to mention our cliche-ridden liberalist incumbent who is even loathe to appear before children without a teleprompter.

Dems risk government shutdown so they can fund Democratic-linked ‘slush fund’

Ed Lasky:

The Senate Democrats are playing a high-risk game at America’s expense. They are refusing to vote for a House-passed continuing resolution to assure the government stays operating after October 1st. They will pin the shutdown and financial chaos on the Republicans. But what is their real goal? They want to ensure continued funding for yet another “green program”. But this one has had two big beneficiaries that are linked closely to two Democrats people may be familiar with: Al Gore and Joe Biden.

Investors Business Daily has part of the story:

Anger of the GP ‘on trial’ over Christian talk with a patient

By Steve Doughty:

Speaking after the case was adjourned, Dr Scott, a 51-year-old GP, said: ‘I’m actually not only disappointed, I’m disgusted with my professional body. When I started in medicine, you were led to believe the GMC were there to serve both patients and doctors. That is not the case. I think there is an anti-Christian bias with the GMC.’

The Scott case is the latest in a series of incidents in which hospitals and medical authorities have been perceived as acting to suppress any expression of Christian beliefs. One case, that of a nurse ordered off the wards because she refused to take off her crucifix, is shortly to be heard at the European Court of Human Rights.

Dr Scott spoke to the 24-year-old patient, described as suicidal and vulnerable, at the end of a consultation at the Bethesda Medical Centre in Margate in August last year. The practice declares its Christian orientation and informs prospective patients that they may be offered spiritual guidance as well as medical help.

New A.Q. Khan Documents Suggest Pakistan Spread Nuclear Weapon Technology

By Micah Morrison:

A.Q. Khan, right, poses for a photo with Simon Henderson, a senior fellow at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. The photo was provided exclusively to Fox News.

Documents obtained by Fox News suggest that for decades Pakistan spread nuclear weapon technology around the globe in exchange for cash, political influence and help with its own atomic bomb program. Among those on the other side of the deals: China, Iran, North Korea and Libya.

The charges are contained in two documents written by A.Q. Khan, the Pakistani nuclear arms trafficker long thought to be the mastermind behind an elaborate global supply and procurement network: a thirteen-page confession to government authorities and a dramatic letter hastily written to his wife as an international manhunt tightened around him.

Global Bust-Up

Mark Steyn:

‘It’s the end of the world as we know it,” sang the popular musical artistes R.E.M. many years ago. And it is. R.E.M. has announced that they’re splitting up after almost a third of a century. But these days who isn’t? The eurozone, the world’s first geriatric boy band, is on the verge of busting apart. Chimerica (Prof. Niall Ferguson’s amusing name for the Chinese-American economic partnership that started around the same time R.E.M. did) is going the way of Wham!, with Beijing figuring it’s the George Michael of the relationship and that it’s tired of wossname, the other fellow, who gets equal billing but doesn’t really do anything. The deeper problem may be that this is a double act with two wossnames.
