Obama admin takes elderly pro-life sidewalk counselor to court
by John-Henry Westen:
A pro-life activist who has engaged in sidewalk counseling for 14 years has been taken to court by the federal Department of Justice. The complaint to the court submitted by the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice alleges that Richard Retta non-violently obstructed a woman and her ‘clinic escorts’ from entering Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, an abortion facility.
[...]
The Department of Justice is demanding that Retta be fined $10,000, that a permanent 20 foot bubble zone be placed around the clinic barring pro-lifers, and that Retta pay an additional fine of $15,000 in equal parts to the three ‘victims’ of his actions, which the DoJ argues were contrary to the Freedom of Access to Clinic Act (FACE).

Bono Praises George W. Bush for Saving Millions in Africa, Prendergast Credits Bush for Peace in South Sudan
By Brad Wilmouth:
A truly amazing coincidence happened on Monday night as former President George W. Bush was praised for helping millions in Africa by two separate public figures in two unrelated matters – the fight against AIDS in Africa, and South Sudan’s successful fight for independence – on two different television shows.

Modern Poverty Includes A.C. and an Xbox
By Ken McIntyre:
When Americans think of poverty, we tend to picture people who can’t adequately shelter, clothe, and feed themselves or their families.
When the Census Bureau defines “poverty,” though, it winds up painting more than 40 million Americans — one in seven — as “poor.”
Census officials continue to grossly exaggerate the numbers of the poor, creating a false picture in the public mind of widespread material deprivation, writes Heritage Foundation senior research fellow Robert Rector in a new paper.
“Most news stories on poverty feature homeless families, people living in crumbling shacks, or lines of the downtrodden eating in soup kitchens,” Rector says. “The actual living conditions of America’s poor are far different from these images.”

A Christian Lebanese Patriot Speaks Out
by Joseph Puder:
Joseph Hakim is a Lebanese native, and the leader of the International Christian Union based in the U.S., a group which serves as an umbrella for Middle Eastern Christians worldwide. Hakim, having just returned from a trip to Lebanon, was asked by this reporter how the Lebanese people feel about the Obama administration, and the general situation in the Land of the Cedars.
“The Christians in Lebanon, like Christians in Iraq and in Egypt, feel abandoned by the Obama administration” Hakim said, adding that “in the midst of ethnic cleansing of Christians in Iraq, and post-revolutionary violence against Christians in Egypt, and fear of the Muslim Brotherhood takeover in Syria, most Christians are left feeling fearful and hopeless.”

UNESCO against the Jews
Giulio Meotti:
The decision, initiated and promoted by Arab states, was adopted by consensus of the Western members of the commission. Indeed, the vote is the latest anti-Jewish initiative launched by the UN office meant to promote culture, education and science around the world. In fact, UNESCO’s robber barons are sanctifying the current global campaign aimed liquidating the legitimacy of the Israeli regime.
In 2009, UNESCO designated Jerusalem as “capital of Arab culture,” working with Palestinian Authority officials and key Arab figures to protest against what they described as “the Israeli occupation of Holy Jerusalem.” Other cities granted the title over the years were Algiers, Damascus, Cairo, Tunis, Amman, Beirut and Khartoum.

Why is minister’s staffer spreading anti-Israel messages from office?
By Ezra Levant:
What’s new at the Department of Heritage, with more than 1,200 very important bureaucrats?
Now we know what at least one of those very important bureaucrats is doing: He’s attacking Israel for “murder” and “piracy,” and defending the terrorist group Hamas.
Monzer Zimmo is Heritage Minister James Moore’s financial and business development adviser.
He’s also a Truther — just four days after 9/11, Zimmo wrote “no one is searching for a party who has … the media manipulation skills, and the burning desire to divert world attention from its own actions against innocent civilians under its occupation … No one is considering the possible, direct or indirect, involvement of the state of Israel!”

Why Do Palestinians Bite the Hand That Feeds Them?
by Khaled Abu Toameh:
For the past six decades, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for [UNRWA] has been helping hundreds of thousands of Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, Gaza Strip and a number of Arab countries, providing them with various services, including jobs.
In recent weeks, UNRWA has come under attack from many Palestinians who fear that the international agency is planning to cut its services to the refugees.
UNRWA has in fact reduced some of its services to refugees – but only due to a $60 million budget deficit.
The reactions of both Hamas and the PLO show that neither party is willing to assume responsibility for the refugees in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
The two parties do not want to provide any services to the refugees, and want UNRWA to do the job for them. Their goal is to keep the refugees in their places so Hamas, the PLO and the rest of the Arab governments can continue exploiting their plight for political purposes.

Nevada man sues DMV over rejection of ‘GOPALIN’ license plate
By Jackie Valley:
Linlor says he tried again in June 2010 — this time requesting “PALIN,” “PALIN12” or “PALIN16.” The DMV’s Special Plates Committee, which reviews applications, again denied his requests, deeming them inappropriate because they were “political,” according to the complaint.
According to the Nevada Administrative Code, the DMV rejects personalized license plates with any combination of letters, numbers or spaces that “express contempt, ridicule or superiority of … political affiliation.” It can also deny plates it deems “inappropriate.”
After a hearing before an administrative law judge, the lawsuit claims the judge reversed the DMV’s denial of Linlor’s requests for plates with “PALIN,” “PALIN12” and “PALIN16.” The judge determined the DMV wasn’t authorized to deny requests simply because they were “political,” according to the complaint.
Despite the judge’s decision, the complaint alleges the DMV again denied Linlor’s request for a “GOPALIN” plate. Meanwhile, Linlor discovered the DMV had issued other politics-related license plates, including “GOGREEN,” “DMOCRAT,” “AL GORE,” “KERRY,” “EDWARDS,” “DEAN,” “HILLARY” and “RONPAUL,” while rejecting requests for “REPBLCN” and “BUSH,” the complaint alleges.
When Linlor applied for a “GO OBAMA” plate, the DMV approved it, he alleges.

Taxpayer-funded exhibit slurs GOP govs as Nazis
William Sullivan:
A taxpayer-funded exhibit equates Republican governors with Nazism, and coincidentally proves progressive delusions.
“Artist” Sean Michael Stimac has released his piece, “The Faces of Fascism,” for display at the Marquette (Michigan) Arts and Cultural Center. In it, Republican governors Walker, Kasich, Scott, and Snyder appear on a Nazi-style propaganda poster with the visage of the Third Reich’s eagle, and in its talons is not the swastika, but the Republican Party’s token elephant.
First of all, I’d expect a bit more profundity or possibly a bit of abstraction from “art” that has been exhibited as high-brow stuff at a popular cultural center. Instead, this piece has all the value of an unoriginal political cartoon, giving us the same baseless, in-your-face nonsense we’ve always gotten from the dimwitted left- you know, Bush is a Nazi, ScottWalker’s a Nazi, Tea Partiers are Nazis, blah, blah, blah. But what really stands out here is the sheer stupidity and ineffectiveness of this particular effort. Take a look:

Death sentence for Christian convert in Iran
Andrew G. Bostom
Two Iranian Supreme Court justices have denied an appeal of Youcef Nadarkhani’s December 5, 2010 death sentence for the uniquely Islamic “crime” of apostasy. Islam stands alone amongst all modern faiths, adamantly denying its votaries freedom of conscience, as guaranteed, for example, by Article 18 of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (“Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion; this right includes freedom to change his religion or belief, and freedom, either alone or in community with others and in public or private, to manifest his religion or belief in teaching, practice, worship and observance.”), and insisting upon lethal punishment for “public” apostates, in full accord with the Sharia.
A translation of the Iranian Supreme Court verdict makes illuminating, if depressing reading:
