Salon Writer Admits Embellishing Abortion Story

By Jill Stanek:

For several reasons I doubted the veracity of Kendall’s story (see the 1st comment on my blog and my comments at Salon on 5/27 at 8:30a, 11:23a, 11:33a, 12:32p, and 12:37p ).

There were many red flags. But the biggest was Kendall’s claim that a doctor was willing to let her bleed to death after she presented with placental abruption, because he knew treatment would result in her baby’s death, a nonviable 20-weeker. This made no sense, particularly knowing nontreatment would ensure both the mother and baby died.

Political Correctness vs. Individual Rights

The View from 1776:

Liberal-progressives don’t bother themselves with matters like due process or “innocent until proved guilty.” As an elite class, they believe themselves entitled to override the Constitution and civil law, so long as they do so in service of political correctness.

Ex-Intel Chairman Hoekstra Says There’s “Dissent And Dislike” For Pres At CIA

by John Gizzi:

“And what’s really amazing is that all the things in the realm of intelligence that Obama badmouthed as a candidate in ’08, he has now embraced as President,” said Hoekstra, “He has been much more aggressive in the use of predator drones than the Bush Administration was. The Obama Administration has acknowledged that enhanced interrogation techniques helped get the information that led to the successful raid on bin Laden’s compound. And President Obama has never closed down the U.S. operation at Guantanamo, as Candidate Obama promised to do over and over again. Under Obama, the U.S. has continued the policy of unlimited detentions and the use of military tribunals.”

“Quite frankly, who would have thought Barack Obama would have sent an assassination team to get bin Laden?”

And what is most stunning in Obama embracing the tactics in fighting terrorism from what he so harshly criticized as a candidate, Hoekstra added, “is that he won’t now say he was wrong in the first place.”

Bachmann: I consider Sarah Palin a friend, not a competitor

by The Right Scoop:

As much as Stephanopoulos was trying to pit Michele Bachmann against Sarah Palin in this interview, Bachmann refused to play his game and instead said that there is not only plenty of room in this presidential race for Palin (or any candidate), but also that she views Sarah Palin as a friend and not a competitor. When asked what is the one thing that makes her different from Palin, Bachmann said she doesn’t compare herself to other conservatives but rather to Barack Obama.

Class act.

Moderate Arabs and Muslims Under Threat

by Khaled Abu Toameh:

As Syrian dictator Bashar Assad continues to slaughter his people under the pretext that his regime is facing an “external conspiracy,” a growing number of Arab and Muslim leaders are turning their backs on him.

The only two leaders who continue to support Assad’s brutal and merciless crackdown on his people are Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Hizbollah’s Hassan Nasrallah.

Iran and Hizbollah want Syria’s Bashar Assad to stay in power so that they can continue flooding the region with weapons in preparation for war not only against Israel, but also against moderate Arabs and Muslims.

Report: Police Refuse Help After Christian Pakistani Woman ‘Gang-Raped for an Entire Night’

by Billy Hallowell:

The situation is becoming increasingly grim for Pakistan’s Christian population. Unimaginable fits of violence and acts of desecration against sacred lands barely begin to describe the horror and devastation that non-Muslims face in a nation that is becoming increasingly less tolerant. Last week, the Asia Times reported on two alleged instances that perfectly illustrate how the situation has devolved:

Christian tombs were recently desecrated and a young Christian woman was gang-raped for an entire night. In both cases, police refused to file a First Information Report, allowing the culprits to escape justice. These are examples of the ordinary violence visited upon Pakistan’s Christian minority.

The woman in question was a 29-year-old mother who was allegedly abducted by a Muslim co-worker, beaten and then violently raped. The most perplexing and infuriating part of her story is her quest for justice following the incident. According to accounts, despite her attempt to file a report, the police refused to help. Instead, they offered to assist the rapists in “cover[ing] their tracks.” The Catholic Church is understandably perplexed and disgusted by these developments:

Hope and Change, the Communist Way

Dr. Ileana Johnson Paugh:

I am in Washington, D.C. surrounded by expensive SUVs, Hummers, Mercedes, and “environmentally friendly” Priuses sporting stickers with Hope and Change, Socialism 2012, advertising socialism and communism, to the detriment of the “evil” capitalist system that afforded them those cars and a luxurious lifestyle.

A few beat up cars are liberally covered in communist slogan stickers, phony empty words that promise “redistribution of wealth” and a nanny state. I ponder for a moment if progressives are still waiting for their free gas, housing, day care, jobs, education, medical care, endless vacations, and a chunk of paradise from the “filthy, rotten rich” who deserve to be stripped of everything they own. I still do not understand why they call themselves “progressives” when they are really longing for regression to a life of slavery to the government.

Where Obama is leading Israel

By CAROLINE B. GLICK:

In the aftermath of US President Barack Obama’s May 19 speech on the Middle East, his supporters argued that the policy toward Israel and the Palestinians that Obama outlined in that speech was not anti-Israel. As they presented it, Obama’s assertion that peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians must be based on the 1967 lines with agreed swaps does not mark a substantive departure from the positions adopted by his predecessors in the Oval Office.

But this claim is exposed as a lie by previous administration statements. On November 25, 2009, in response to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s acceptance of Obama’s demand for a 10-month moratorium on Jewish property rights in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria, the State Department issued the following statement: “Today’s announcement by the Government of Israel helps move forward toward resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Stopping the Hate

Matthew Shaffer:

Incidentally, Cathy is also an enthusiastic Baptist, and one domain of his charitable giving reflects that fact. Chick-fil-A is closed on Sundays, includes religious language in its mission statement, and donates some money to causes like the Campus Crusade for Christ. Consequently, a meme has developed on left-leaning and pro-gay-rights websites in the past year that Chick-fil-A is virulently anti-gay. Since then, the nonagenarian Samuel Truett Cathy has gone from a noted philanthropist to a hate-figure — in two senses of the phrase — for many liberals, and has gotten a string of very negative press.

IHH Head: Despite Rafiah Opening, Flotilla Two Still On

IsraelNationalNews.com:

The Turkish-based IHH group said on Sunday that Saturday’s reopening of the Rafiah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip will not change its plans to send a second flotilla to Gaza.

[...]

During last year’s flotilla, IHH activists ambushed IDF naval commandos who boarded the Mavi Marmara in accordance with international law after its captain refused to change course and not head for Gaza. The activists attempted to take the soldiers captive and beat them with clubs, seriously injuring several of them. The commandos were forced to kill nine aggressors in order to rescue their imperiled comrades.

It was later discovered that, contrary to claims by the organizers, there was no humanitarian aid whatsoever on the flotilla ships.

Dear Canadian Prime Minister Harper

David Harris:

When it comes to the Middle East, too often there’s been an inability to distinguish between the despot and the democrat, the arsonist and the firefighter, among those who should know better.

Too often the politics of principle have yielded to expediency, and truth has been thrown to the wind.

And too often moral courage has been trumped by moral ambiguity at best, cowardice at worst.

Of moral courage, Mark Twain wrote 110 years ago in reply to an inquiring newspaper editor:

Brits Revert to Anti-Jewish Form: David Cameron Resigns as patron of the Jewish National Fund

Pam Geller:

British Prime Minister David Cameron has resigned as patron from the Jewish charity, the Jewish National Fund. Yes, David, a non-partisan group that plants trees — that’s the problem.

The JNF is the organziation I worked with to plant the grove of trees in American Independece Park in Jerusalem in honor of Aqsa Parvez and all victims of honor killing worldwide (more news on that soon to come).

This is the Brits being British. Their long history of Jew-hatred is littered with the bodies of millions. From the betrayal of the Balfour Declaration and the White Paper. They stopped the Jewish people from emigrating into Palestine when millions were being “exterminated.” They have a lot to make up for — instead, this.

Increase in CO2 emissions means world on the brink, say warmists

Rick Moran:

The only reason I am highlighting this piece in the Guardian is because it is a textbook example of everything that’s wrong with climate change advocates.

[...]

1. Absolutely no quoting of skeptics.

2. Warnings of absolute catastrophe with not a shred of evidence to support it.

3. Hiding the fact that the increase in CO2 comes from “developing countries” (China, India) and not from the industrialized world. (one passing reference)

4. A 50-50 chance of a 4c rise in temps by 2100? Talk about hedging your bets!

5. Ascribing reliable authority to people and organizations that have no track record of accuracy whatsoever.

6. The usual picture of smoking industrial smokestacks when CO2 is invisible and is not a pollutant.

Canada’s Leadership Required to Resolve Crisis in Sudan

The Right Honourable Stephen Harper
Prime Minister of Canada
Ottawa, Ontario

Dear Mr. Harper,

Re: Urgent Situation in Sudan — Requires Immediate Canadian Leadership!

As a Canadian who has lived and worked in Sudan since 1978, I, on behalf of our organization, would like to voice our deepest concerns for what has just happened in that country this past week. A crisis has arisen which undermines the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) between the north and south, and which could very well plunge the region back into another genocidal war.

As you are probably aware, northern Sudanese armed forces, acting on what is now widely seen as a pretext, carried out a pre-meditated attack on the town of Abyei on May 21.  The Joint Integrated Unit forces, mandated by the CPA to maintain security in the Abyei region, disintegrated and were swept away by an overwhelming force of troops, tanks, helicopter gunships, Antonov bombers and northern militia. Surrounding villages were also attacked.  Of the civilians who survived, tens of thousands fled south on foot, leaving torched homes and looted property behind.  Many are now in desperate circumstances, needing food, water, shelter and medical attention.  We received a report from our school project in Agok, saying 2,800 arrived there seeking shelter, but many had to sleep on open ground or in the bush.

With this blatant violation, the Khartoum regime has demonstrated contempt for the CPA as well as for international law. It already stands accused of genocide, having overseen the massacre and displacement of millions of civilians in the South and in Darfur.

We learned from the tragic Rwandan genocide in 1994 that the international community needs to provide timely security for the civilian population, and hold the belligerent parties accountable for agreements they make and for crimes they commit.

In Rwanda the UN lacked a mandate to protect civilians.  In Sudan, the UN Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) has this in UNSC Resolution 1590, but is neither able nor willing to use it.  When northern forces overran Abyei in 2008 — and now yet again — UNMIS let the civilians fend for themselves while their personnel took shelter in bunkers and their military equipment stayed in their compound.  The media reported their compound received mortar fire during the attack, and afterward, their helicopters were shot at.

The UN secretary general recently called for a new, more robust UNMIS force; one that will protect civilians. The innocent people of South Sudan, like the Rwandans before them, are dependent upon the good will of the international community to protect them. Will the world again fail to protect the innocent?
Mr. Harper, your government is to be commended for taking a principled stand when required.  Five years ago you said: “You can’t lead from the bleachers. I want Canada to be a leader…a country that really leads, not a country that just follows.” You described serving in a UN-mandated, Canadian-led security operation as … “the very best of the Canadian tradition: providing leadership on global issues; stepping up to the plate; doing good when good is required.”
Is this not the perfect time for Canada to “step up to the plate” and provide the leadership on this critical global issue?  Perhaps it is “for such a time as this” that you lead a majority government. Certainly doing good in Sudan is what is needed there now.  Will any other country step up to the plate if Canada doesn’t lead?
Canada has pledged its support for the peace process in Sudan, and contributed significant tax payer money to it for many years. This could all be for naught if the recent Abyei violation is not challenged immediately with determination.
Specifically, we urge your government to insist that the Khartoum regime:
1.    Withdraw its forces from Abyei immediately
2.    Recognize the authority of the Abyei Administration, as called for by the CPA, but which was summarily dismissed last week
3.    Provide funds to the Abyei administration in order to compensate for:
a)       the loss of civilian life and property,
b)      assisting displaced civilians to return and get re-established,
c)      replenishing the supplies looted from UN and other humanitarian organizations, and
d)      restoring Administration and commercial organizations’ buildings, furnishings and supplies that were destroyed or looted

Most importantly, we also urge your government to:

1.    Put “boots on the ground” in a leadership role of a new, more robust UNMIS as called for by the UN Secretary General; and
2.    Insure that protection of civilian life and property is its highest priority.

This new UNMIS should also ensure that violations of peace agreements made under the auspices of the international community will have dire consequences in the future for those who show contempt for peace and innocent human life.
Sincerely yours,

Mel Middleton

Dems Fret Over Being Seen as Anti-Israel

by Arnold Ahlert:

So, what do you do if you’re head of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), and a Democrat president “suggests” Israel should retreat to its pre-1967 borders, which the prime minster of Israel considers “indefensible?” If you’re Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, you demand Jewish Republicans “pledge to refrain” from making an issue of it during the 2012 election campaign.

Ms. Wasserman-Schultz pulled this little stunt during a meeting last week of representative delegates from the Republican Jewish Coalition (RJC), the National Jewish Democratic Council (NJDC), and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The purpose of the meeting was ostensibly to shore up bipartisan support for Israel from American Jewish organizations. Yet Wasserman-Schultz decided to turn it into a “partisan bickering match” which, according to RJC executive director Matt Brooks, made Netanyahu uncomfortable enough to ask, “Do you guys want me to leave the room and give you guys some privacy?” “[The NJDC] decided to hijack these meeting in order to, in front of the prime minister, put a gag order in effect to prevent us from speaking out on Israel,” Brooks says.

The RJC was having none of it, as this letter to Wasserman-Schultz reveals.

Islamists Project Islam’s Worst Traits Onto Christians

by Raymond Ibrahim:

In recent weeks, we saw how the Muslim world’s obsession with gaining converts evinces, in the words of one Muslim intellectual, an “inferiority complex”—a deadly one at that.

As it happens, inferiority complex is not the only psychological ailment besetting the Muslim world: some Muslims are also projecting the worst traits of Islam onto the beleaguered Christian communities living among them.

Take Egypt’s Christian Copts, for example. Much of the recent violence inflicted upon them is based on the constant—but baseless—accusation that the Coptic Church is abducting and tormenting Coptic women who convert to Islam. Amazingly, it is precisely the opposite scenario—Muslims kidnapping Christian women and forcing them to convert to Islam—that is a notorious phenomenon in Egypt.

One Day in the Life of an Israeli Hospital

by Steven Plaut:

The Bash-Israel Lobby has now become a large choir of totalitarian chanting about supposed Israeli “apartheid.” Western campuses are filled with the hate fests of “Israel Apartheid Week.” Friends of Israel attempt to engage the bigots in debate, attempt to challenge their claims. Statistics are ladled out. Facts are cited, documentation is presented. But the libels about Israeli “Apartheid” are notoriously resistant to facts and truth, like mutant bacteria that resist antibiotics. Anyone who knows anything at all about the Middle East understands that Israel is the only country in the region that is not an apartheid regime.

I must say that I find the “debates” about Israeli “apartheid” to be boring and wearying. Instead, I would like to offer a simple window into life in Israel and into Arab-Jewish relations inside Israel. It is based on the routine inside an Israeli hospital, where I had the “opportunity” to spend some time recently.

Apartheid? Make up your own mind.

Gun Control by Stealth

by Tait Trussell:

Obama has a knack for skirting the bounds of the Constitution. Whether it’s going to war in Libya without congressional approval, or condoning labor union threats in the sovereign State of Wisconsin, or toying with the Second Amendment, Obama is the imperial president.

The justice Department, according to the May 25 story, reportedly is holding meetings discussing White House options for enacting new regulations on its own or through executive agencies or departments.

The committed internationalist President apparently can’t wait for an international treaty expected this summer that will deal with arms control—including firearms. That’s when the United Nations is expected to release for ratification their Arms Trade Treaty (ATT).

Although the supposed purposes of the treaty may sound beneficial, it will surely to contain such provisions as gun registration and bans on guns. The danger is that it could snatch away our Second Amendment rights. And the notion of global gun control through international agreements appears to have the full approval of the Obama administration.

The Green Fascism

by Ahmed Charai:

A historic tragedy is at play before our eyes: Another Munich, when some European democracies thought they could avoid the war by appeasing Nazism. Winston Churchill said: “You accepted shame to avoid war, now you will have both.” History’s verdict was merciless.

Today, Arab — but also Western — diplomats are making the same mistake toward the “green fascism.” Their “smart” strategy would consist in involving these groups in a democratic process; Radical Islamists would then, they believe, change their behavior.

Radical Islamism, however, is a form of political activity that rejects the principles of parliamentary democracy. Extremist ideology and practices are based on intolerance, exclusion, xenophobia, anti-Semitism and ultranationalism.

Radical Islamism is a danger for any democratic state: its fanatic character may be used to justify violence. Even if it does not directly advocate violence, extremism creates a climate conducive to violence.

Socialism, Obama, and Genocide

The USSR had about 7 decades, only murdering about 884,000 annually between 1917 and 1987; about 62 million total.

The People’s Republic of China “wins”, murdering over 1.9M annually between 1949 and 1987; about 73 million total.

But over half of that occurred during Mao’s famine of 1958-62: 38M; about 8M annually.

Maybe, given enough time to get the hang of it like their fellow socialist dictatorships, the Nazis would have “won”?

In any case, socialists, in all their variations take the crown for being the biggest murderers in history.

A prophecy: The word of the LORD concerning Israel

Zechariah 12 (New International Version)

Zechariah 12
Jerusalem’s Enemies to Be Destroyed
1 A prophecy: The word of the LORD concerning Israel.

The LORD, who stretches out the heavens, who lays the foundation of the earth, and who forms the human spirit within a person, declares: 2 “I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem. 3 On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves. 4 On that day I will strike every horse with panic and its rider with madness,” declares the LORD. “I will keep a watchful eye over Judah, but I will blind all the horses of the nations. 5 Then the clans of Judah will say in their hearts, ‘The people of Jerusalem are strong, because the LORD Almighty is their God.’

6 “On that day I will make the clans of Judah like a firepot in a woodpile, like a flaming torch among sheaves. They will consume all the surrounding peoples right and left, but Jerusalem will remain intact in her place.

7 “The LORD will save the dwellings of Judah first, so that the honor of the house of David and of Jerusalem’s inhabitants may not be greater than that of Judah. 8 On that day the LORD will shield those who live in Jerusalem, so that the feeblest among them will be like David, and the house of David will be like God, like the angel of the LORD going before them. 9 On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem.
Mourning for the One They Pierced
10 “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit[a] of grace and supplication. They will look on[b] me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son. 11 On that day the weeping in Jerusalem will be as great as the weeping of Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo. 12 The land will mourn, each clan by itself, with their wives by themselves: the clan of the house of David and their wives, the clan of the house of Nathan and their wives, 13 the clan of the house of Levi and their wives, the clan of Shimei and their wives, 14 and all the rest of the clans and their wives.
