The Vatican reverses into a darker age
Melanie Phillips:
One of the most disturbing features of the visceral hostility to Israel displayed by the Anglican Church is its underlying revival of replacement theology, or supersessionism – the ancient Christian calumny that, because of their denial of the divinity of Christ, the Jews have forfeited God’s promises to them which have been transferred to Christians. This pernicious doctrine was the principal motor behind the medieval Christian pogroms against the Jews, and persisted until the Holocaust, after which it went underground until it was revived in recent years and fused with Palestinianism. As a result, some Anglican theologians now claim that God’s promise to the Jews of the land of Israel is forfeit and has passed instead to the Palestinians.
Until now, the Catholic Church seemed to have wanted to bury this doctrine of replacement theology, with the Second Vatican Council showing an awareness of the role of Christianity in the persecution of the Jews and an apparent desire to put an end for ever to the theology that had fuelled it. But now Rome has reversed itself.
[...]
Whether or not one subscribes to replacement theology, Israel’s claims to the west bank and Jerusalem are legitimate under international law. Perhaps the arab states surrounding Israel should think twice before attacking a peaceful neighbour or they will lose even more territory. I would remind Jordan that the land it currently occupies was originally promised to Israel but the British reneged on their promise and turned it over to a Saudi born [Mecca] arab sheik who had helped them out during WWI.
How ACORN Survives — and Thrives
By Matthew Vadum:
The whistleblowers of the left-leaning “ACORN 8″ group are learning the hard way that the Obama Department of Justice is just as adept at stonewalling as Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.). Longtime ACORN benefactor Nadler is the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee’s subcommittee on the Constitution, civil rights, and civil liberties who refused to initiate a probe even when confronted with powerful evidence of ACORN’s wrongdoing. (To make matters worse, in a breathtaking conflict-of-interest Nadler devised a novel legal strategy ACORN used to defend itself.)
ACORN 8 is a group that broke away from ACORN in 2008. It is headed by Marcel Reid, a former member of ACORN’s national board. She was expelled from ACORN after demanding to see financial documentation related to a million-dollar embezzlement perpetrated by the brother of ACORN founder Wade Rathke. The brother, Dale Rathke, blew his ill-gotten gains on spending sprees at Neiman Marcus, limousine rentals, and other accoutrements of the Mercedes Marxist set. Big brother Wade and other high-ranking ACORN officials covered up the theft for eight years until it was discovered two years ago.

When the cash runs out
NY POST:
The trouble with socialism, Margaret Thatcher said, is that eventually you run out of other people’s money. Brits are now learning that the hard way.
Britain’s welfare state reached an absurd peak in 2008 when it began offering benefits for the extra wives of polygamous immigrants. But that era is now over, say the Conservatives, who announced massive cuts to fight a deficit of some $235 billion this year.
“Today’s the day when Britain steps back from the brink, when we confront the bills from a decade of debt,” Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne said last week.
It’s tough medicine:

Christians: Egypt’s New Scapegoats
by Joseph Puder, FrontPage:
On Wednesday morning, October 20, 2010, Dr. Monir Dawoud, president of the American Coptic Association, led a rally in front of the United Nations’ New York headquarters to “demonstrate [against] the impending massacre and ethnic cleansing of our people — the Coptic-Christians of Egypt — by the jihadist Muslim Brotherhood groups helped by the Egyptian government of Hosni Mubarak.”
Dr. Dawoud stated in his press release that the aim of the rally was to “protest the recent attacks against His Holiness Pope Shenouda III, and the threats by Muslims to kill him, as well as denounce the bloodshed, murder, abducting and Islamizing of young Christian girls. “Additionally, this rally is aimed at publicizing “the murder of six young men while getting out of church after their Christmas mass on January 6, 2010, and the Egyptian court’s continued delay in the killers’ trial.”
Dr. Dawoud explained that “Copts are afraid to venture out of their homes in fear of being attacked,” and added, “Ten attacks of this type have taken place in the last five weeks, an average of two such attacks a week. “

Sharia in the UK
by Jamie Glazov, FrontPage:
Frontpage Interview’s guest today is Pamela Geller, founder, editor and publisher of the popular and award-winning weblog AtlasShrugs.com. She has won acclaim for her interviews with internationally renowned figures, including John Bolton, Geert Wilders, Bat Ye’or, Natan Sharansky, and many others, and has broken numerous important stories — notably the questionable sources of some of the financing of the Obama campaign. Her op-eds have been published in The Washington Times, The American Thinker, Israel National News, Frontpage Magazine, World Net Daily, and New Media Journal, among other publications. She is the co-author (with Robert Spencer) of The Post-American Presidency: The Obama Administration’s War on America.
FP: Pamela Geller, welcome to Frontpage Interview.
I would like to discuss with your accurate prediction about a London borough becoming an Islamic republic.
What’s going on?
Geller: Thanks Jamie.
As I predicted at my website Atlas Shrugs, a vile Islamic supremacist, Lutfur Rahman, has been elected executive mayor of the London borough of Tower Hamlets. And he has accomplished this through massive voter fraud — isn’t this always how they get their way?

Time To Hold Environmental And Climate Doomsayers To Account
By Dr. Tim Ball:
The 1990 Greenpeace Report on Global Warming said, carbon dioxide is added to the atmosphere naturally and unnaturally. They define unnatural as anything humans do. It is part of the theme of environmentalism that humans shouldn’t be here or tolerated only if they behave as they are told. The other part of the idea of unnatural is exploited to keep the people enthralled, fearful and therefore controlled. H.L.Mencken’s comment that, “The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary” applies and is proof of the political nature of events presented, directly or with implication, as unnatural.
The false idea is presented out of context then left uncorrected by lack of follow up. This is especially true if the story is a prediction. We need a media vehicle to analyze the story in context followed by the aftermath. It’s time for a program on which doomsayers who profited financially or politically from false stories and predictions confronted and held to account. Here are some recent stories that proved incorrect.

Comparing Jews to Nazis Meets NPR’s ‘Editorial Standards and Practices’
By Edward Olshaker:
NPR’s mindset has not changed since they blacklisted terrorism expert Steven Emerson in response to a complaint from a Hamas supporter…whom they invited to be a commentator.
“[Juan Williams'] remarks were inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR.”
- Statement issued by NPRRemember what National Public Radio did to its foreign editor Loren Jenkins last year after he said, “Israel has used Gaza as a bombing target practice”?
They did nothing to him, for he was simply espousing the reckless anti-Israel hyperbole that is business-as-usual for NPR.

The wages of Wikileaks: Understanding the Iraq war casualties
By TigerHawk:
Glenn Reynolds notes that the early revelations from the “Wikileaks” exposure of classified Iraq war documents do not actually reflect well on the political left. In particular, the documents reveal that The Lancet’s two infamous studies on casualties in Iraq, curiously released in October 2004 and October 2006, respectively, grossly overstated the death toll from that war. This should not surprise us, insofar as the second such study (which claimed 600,000 war-related deaths in Iraq through the summer of 2006, or almost six times the 109,000 deaths through 2009 revealed by Wikileaks) was funded and promoted by George Soros, a fact that was ignored in virtually all of the press coverage back when it mattered. Thus Wikileaks has torpedoed a “fact” to which the “reality-based community” ascribed totemic significance. Sadly, even now the respectable mainstream media neglects to make the point. Probably because George Soros was behind the original propaganda which the media dutifully transcribed. If that were widely understood it might not reflect well on the profession of journalism.

Why Soros gave his $1.8 million NPR grant
Ed Lasky:
The almost two million dollars George Soros gave NPR was carefully targeted, and part of a broader strategy to add to the political power of the Great Puppeteer.
George Soros and his efforts to influence the federal government have elicited much commentary. He is a major funder of the Democratic party, generous donors to Democratic officeholders (including Barack Obama), has an empire of 527 groups (such as MoveOn.Org) at his beck and call. Soros has invested many millions if creating and funding many left-wing think tanks whose employees are often called upon to serve important posts in the Obama administration and can also be relied upon to further his agenda when they are used as “experts” by the media or politicians (who never identify them as beneficiaries of Soros’s money).
But Soros’s ambitions also extend to the state level.

Marie Antoinette has nothing on the Obamas
Ralph Alter:
From the legislative prestidigitation used to ram through the unpopular stimulus and Obamacare bills, to the racialist approach of the Holder Department of Justice and its stonewalling to block investigations into its malfeasance regarding the Uighurs, the department’s employment of lawyers who represented Guantanamo terrorists , and its abandonment of the prosecution of Black Panthers over voting rights violations, B.O. and his minions remain determined to do as they please with America’s money and resources, regardless of the will of the American people.
Nowhere is this in-your-face attitude more evident than in the Obama’s lavish arrangements for their upcoming trip to Mumbai.

Italy’s MP Fiamma Nirenstein:”Islam Does Not Like Christians”
by Elad Benari:
Jewish Italian MP Fiamma Nirenstein was reconfirmed this week as Vice President of Italy’s Foreign Affairs Committee. In addition, she was also appointed an official consultant on Israel and the international Jewish communities by Italian Foreign Minister Frattini.
Earlier this week, Nirenstein commented on Christian leaders who criticize Israel yet ignore violence by Arabs. She pointed out that “Islam does not like Eastern Christians: it has forced them to flee and now they account for only 6% of the population in the Mideast”, and added that the only country where the number of Christians has grown is Israel, where 163,000 Christians live today, a number which is expected to grow to 187,000 by the year 2020. “In Muslim countries, on the other hand, Christians are on the wane, but the 50 churches present in the Holy Land seem not to notice. They prefer to dump on Israel, where they enjoy full freedom of worship and expression,” said Nirenstein.

How the Constitution Is Read
By T.L. Davis:
There is an obvious disconnect concerning the Constitution between the Tea
Party crowd and the establishment of both major political parties. This was evidenced most recently in a clip on CNN of an exchange between Eliot Spitzer and Dana Loesch. Loesch is a founder of the Saint Louis Tea Party and Editor in Chief of Breitbart’s Big Journalism. Ostensibly, Loesch had been invited on the Parker Spitzer Show to discuss the upcoming election and the role of Tea Party organizations in the campaigns, but for Spitzer, it was an ambush, and it didn’t take him long to drop the gloves and come out swinging.
Spitzer: I don’t mean to be snarky about this, but we heard Christine O’Donnell today in, you know, your Senate candidate from Delaware saying separation of church and state was not in the Constitution, either. So, maybe the Tea Party’s working off a different Constitution. We’ll wait and see.
Loesch: It’s not. No, it’s not. That phrase isn’t in the Constitution at all. That phrase is not in the Constitution.
Yes, they are working off a different Constitution, and that will be shown as the crux of the brewing battle between the Tea Party movement and the politicians in office.

Liberal Democrats Get Desperate and Dangerous in Days Before November Elections
By Jerry McConnell:
As Michelle Malkin, the brilliant conservative columnist whose October 15, 2010 online article, “Public Enemy Number One: GOP Donors” points out, the liberal Democratic offensive is not about “Disclosure”, the ultimate goal. “is to intimidate conservative donors, chill political free speech and drain Republican coffers.”
These comments were made in reference to the liberal fairy tales of foreign donations attacks being made against the U. S. Chamber of Commerce by nervous and uncomfortable liberal Democrats with their potential ousting from power in Congress in the November elections, which is a certainty barring any unforeseen “REAL dirty tricks” cooked up to rig, skew or outright tamper and pad the election voting forms as the Democrats have been suspected of doing in multiples cases over the past few years assisted by their comrade thugs in ACORN or coercion from the Black Panthers with the grace and permission of our “supposed-to-be” neutral National Attorney General who dismissed charges against their bullying tactics at the polls in Philadelphia a couple of years ago.

Barack Obama echoes anti-Americanism of Europe in calling voters stupid
Telegraph
So what is the closing argument of Barack Obama’s Democrats before next Tuesday’s midterm elections? The President is no longer the self-proclaimed “hope-monger” of 2008, who vaingloriously declared that his vanquishing Hillary Clinton marked “the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal”.
He has stopped patting voters on the back for choosing, by voting for him, to listen not to their doubts or fears but to their “greatest hopes and highest aspirations”. Instead, he is berating Americans (most of whom now do not believe he deserves a second term) for not being able to “think clearly” because they’re “scared”.

Time for Heads to Roll Over New Black Panther Dismissal
by J. Christian Adams:
Today the Washington Post graces its front page with a long overdue expose on the dismissal of the New Black Panther case. The story is extremely bad news for the Eric Holder Justice Department. Through multiple deep sourcing within the Voting Section and Civil Rights Division, it confirms everything that Christopher Coates and I testified about before the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. But that isn’t the biggest shocker of the Post piece. It also has administration officials defending the dismissal by arguing that the civil rights laws weren’t intended to protect whites. Alas, they confess to their true beliefs after more than a year of lies and misdirection.
This is the worst possible news for the wrongdoers at DOJ, a week before the midterm elections. While purely anecdotal, I have received numerous emails from people around the country confessing their own mea culpa: that they once could not believe the DOJ could act in racially discriminatory fashion, but now they do. Mounting evidence moves minds.
The Post story is largely fair and factual. It does omit the fact that the New Black Panthers are a virulent anti-Semitic organization who routinely rage against “the Jews!” and who have called for the murder of “cracker babies in their cribs.” One can only presume that one of the two authors of the piece did not want to remind readers of the vilest views of this outfit.

Krauthammer Slams NPR’s Hypocrisy Over Williams And Totenberg
RCP:
FOX News: “I don’t understand the inconsistency here,” Dr. Charles Krauthammer said on PBS’s “Inside Washington” Friday night. Another guest on the panel was NPR’s Nina Totenberg, whom Krauthammer targeted for her consistent liberal bias.
“Why is it okay for Nina to express opinions as she has tartly, sharply, unashamedly and openly? And she’s an honored correspondent there; in fact, they mention your status here on ["Inside Washington"] in your biography at NPR. And Juan, because he expresses his opinions, he gets canned from NPR,” Dr. Krauthammer said.

NPR firing assists the fatwa on free speech
Rex Murphy:
Juan Williams is a long-time liberal commentator and pundit, an acknowledged authority on the civil rights moments and as decent a personality as one can hope for in present-day journalism. To smear him as a bigot, which in effect NPR has done, is a testament to how twisted the public conversation can become under the Kafkaesque impulses of political correctness.
How do PC codes operate? For a perceived offence against Islam by a non-Muslim, as in the Williams case, the response is swift and terrible: The “guilty” party loses his job. Opponents of the Cordoba mosque near the site of 9/11, to take another current instance, are slandered as monsters of intolerance.
Meanwhile, this hypersensitivity has its inverted mirror. Even as certain public bodies such as NPR strain themselves to root out the mere scent of intolerance toward Islam, Seattle-based cartoonist Molly Norris, who idly proposed a “Let’s Draw Mohammed Day” (and later withdrew all association with that project and apologized), is now in hiding after being declared a “prime target for death” in a fatwa. Have we heard as much about her and her plight — more drastic by far than the state of Juan Williams’ nerves at an airport — as about the NPR flap? Is her story not more news-worthy? Yet, the threat to kill a citizen in a democracy because she is alleged to have “offended” Islam is almost treated as normative. No hot and pressing edicts from NPR on that fatwa.

Washington Post Blockbuster Confirms Worst Fears About Holder Justice Dept. Race Policies
by Andrew Breitbart:
Congratulations to the editors at the Washington Post. Seventeen months after the Eric Holder Justice Department dismissed a slam-dunk case against the New Black Panther Party for voter intimidation, the Post gets around to printing a thorough vetting of the dismissal. The story is slated for Saturday’s print edition. While other media like Breitbart/The Bigs, Fox News, the Washington Times, the Weekly Standard, Pittsburgh Tribune Review, Investors Business Daily, Pajamas Media, and Drudge have had dozens of stories on the corrupt New Black Panther dismissal, the Washington Post at last is in the game.
The story is a shocker too. The shock comes from the middle of the road and factual nature of the story.
There are small problems with the story. For one, the Washington Post is the only outlet that calls King Samir Shabazz by his old “slave name” (Shabazz’s own words) of Maruse Heath. Even Heath doesn’t call himself Heath. Of course this takes some of the sting off Shabazz’s rants against Jews and calls to kill “cracker babies in their crib.”
The Post’s decision to change a man’s name for him is controversial. It has no place.
But overall, the story is very bad news for Eric Holder.

Liberals defend sanctity of free speech for liberals only
Lorne Gunte:
Really, should anyone be surprised by National Public Radio’s firing of analyst Juan Williams? Liberals and leftists are far and away the most intolerant people in public debate. As my friend and fellow National Post columnist, David Frum, likes to say, liberals are all in favour of free speech and a diversity of opinion until they encounter views that differ from their own. Then they are shocked to find people who actually disagree with them and their first reaction is to try to silence their critics.

Hamas-linked CAIR Blames Geller for Shining Light on Hamas-linked ISNA
Pam Gellar, Atlas Shrugs:
You must watch this video, which is entitled, “Bloggers are urging a Campbell Soup boycott over the company’s ‘halal’ soup offerings in Canada. Amina Rubin, of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, and Sallie James, of the Cato Institute, share their reactions.”
It’s a mainstream media knee slapper (or head slapper). The more we catch the media fabricating and manufacturing a news narrative, the more derelict and reckless they become.
The entire piece is about me, a “Conservative blogger” who remains nameless until the hydra headed, Hamas-linked, Muslim Brotherhood CAIR conspirator Amina Rubin names “Pamela Geller and her group” as responsible for the bias boycott. So if this is all about my action, why not have me on to explain my position and the the ISNA links to Hamas? The presentation of the entire action was fabricated out of whole cloth.
Why won’t the media do its job? Investigate ISNA. Instead they accept, at face value, the CAIR representative’s completely dishonest answer to this question:

A Call to Mobilize the American Blogosphere in Support of Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff
By Eeyore, VLAD TEPES:
We, the undersigned — consisting of four European blogs, one Canadian blog, and one American blog — have written this post jointly as a public call for our American colleagues to take up the cause of the Austrian feminist and anti-jihad activist Elisabeth Sabaditsch-Wolff.
Geert Wilders is well-known to most American conservative and libertarian bloggers, but Elisabeth’s case is not so prominent. Like Mr. Wilders, she faces trial for reporting factual information about Islam. Her “crime” was to conduct public seminars in which she described Islamic doctrine, quoted from the Koran, and explained to her listeners what she considers the dangers of Islam.
Like Mr. Wilders, Elisabeth has been charged with “hate speech” for her words. Unlike Mr. Wilders, however, Elisabeth is a private citizen, a wife, and the mother of a small child. She lacks the major resources necessary to defend herself against the well-funded organs of the state which seek to persecute her.
Elisabeth will go on trial in Vienna on November 23rd, in what is clearly a political action intended to silence anyone who dissents against the prevailing multicultural orthodoxy.

Three Wars, Little News
Victor Davis Hanson:
It is a busy time in America. The Major League Baseball playoffs are competing with the upcoming midterm elections for the public’s attention. The rescue of courageous miners in Chile has for a time overshadowed even the latest psychodramas of Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton.
There is endemic fear among Americans that continual $1 trillion-plus annual deficits and near-10 percent unemployment are about to destroy the vaunted American standard of living. Who has time to worry about much else?
Yet, that said, we have been sleeping through three major wars that will soon wake us up.
This summer, Americans were dying in combat in Afghanistan at rates not seen since the summer of 2007 in Iraq. In congressional hearings that year, furious legislators grilled Gen. David Petraeus and cited the high number of monthly combat deaths to prematurely declare his surge a failure. Moveon.org ran ads calling Petraeus a traitor (“General Betray Us”) for continuing the war amid such losses.
No such furor surrounds Afghanistan. Yet more Americans have been killed so far this year in Afghanistan than during the entire six years of fighting there from 2001 through 2006. U.S. combat fatalities in Afghanistan in just the first 19 months of the Obama administration exceeded U.S. combat fatalities in Afghanistan in eight years under George W. Bush.
This depressing news warrants little commentary in the mainstream media but surely raises vital questions of national security. Why has the so-called “good war” suddenly heated up at precisely the same time American combat operations in the “bad war” in Iraq are largely over?

Questions on the Impartiality of the U.N. Tomuschat Committee
UN Watch:
The U.N. Human Rights Council’s newly-renewed committee to enforce the Goldstone Report, headed by German law professor Christian Tomuschat, has declared Israel to be in breach of a duty to investigate “those who designed, planned, ordered and oversaw ‘Operation Cast Lead’,” and the “serious allegations” that “officials at the highest levels were complicit in violations.” Specifically, the committee cited the name of Israeli opposition leader Tzipi Livni, who served as foreign minister during the 2009 war with Hamas.
As soon as the Tomuschat Committee released its first report in September 2010, Palestinian organizations, echoed by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, called for the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, and prosecutors worldwide, to intervene. This latest U.N.-inspired “lawfare” campaign recalls last year’s successful effort by pro-Palestinian activists in Britain to obtain a court-ordered arrest warrant, on charges of war crimes, against Ms. Livni, who has since avoided traveling to Britain.

Carol A. Taber Is Obama Submissive to Islam?
by Carol A. Taber:
A few weeks ago, I referred to President Obama as a “dhimmi president,” a subservient kowtower to Islamic power. Maybe it’s time to rethink that designation. He’s not a dhimmi. He’s a spineless, supine, surrendering subject of submission – in other words, a dhimmi-plus.
How else to explain Obama’s complacency with regard to a crescent-shaped monument (which Alec Rawls advances in “Crescent of Betrayal: Dishonoring the Heroes” his claim that the memorial is in fact the world’s largest open-air mosque), being built on National Park Service federal land at the Shanksville, PA Flight 93 crash site, while at the same time ignoring the desecration, theft and need to replace the Mojave Desert War Memorial Cross (our nation’s sole WWI federal memorial) also on National Park Service federal land? And how else to explain Obama’s stumping on behalf of the Ground Zero mosque while at the same time ignoring multiple written requests from veterans’ organizations and a host of distinguished American citizens including Speaker Newt Gingrich, Senator Rick Santorum, a few Medal of Honor recipients, Major Generals, Vice Admirals and many other esteemed citizens, asking that he restore the Memorial Cross?
Are Americans paying attention to this administration’s overt favoritism of Islam over Christianity and all other religions? Is the press complicit in hiding it?

Are Settlements Really the Major Obstacle to Peace?
by Khaled Abu Toameh:
For nearly two decades, the Palestinian Authority conducted peace talks with Israel while construction in the Jewish settlements was continuing. Every now and then the Palestinian leadership would complain about the construction, but it never made a big fuss about the issue. Nor had it threatened to suspend the peace process.
The Palestinian leaders even “forgot,” when they signed the Oslo Accords with Israel in 1993, to demand that the agreement include an Israeli commitment to stop building in the settlements.
Palestinian leaders living in the West Bank can’t say that they never saw the bulldozers working in the settlements.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas lives not far from a settlement near Ramallah. From his balcony, he saw how the Bet El settlement grew over the past two decades. It’s impossible to travel throughout the West Bank without noticing the construction work in the settlements.
Abbas and his predecessor, Yasser Arafat, talked and worked with Israel while the construction was continuing. Until two years ago, Abbas was negotiating with former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and his foreign minister, Tzipi Livni, while the settlements were being expanded. Ironically, the Olmert government built more in the settlements than the “right-wing” government of Binyamin Netanyahu.
So how did the issue of the settlements become the “major obstacle to peace?”

Norway and the Jews
By Abraham Cooper and Manfred Gerstenfeld:
With the Jewish world focused on the looming nuclear threat from Iran, 60,000 Hezb’allah rockets menacing from southern Lebanon, and the dramatic shift of Turkey from an ally to an increasingly Islamist foe, one might think that Norway’s attitudes toward the Jewish State and Judaic values might not be worthy of a second glance. After all, the entire organized Jewish population in Norway — about seven hundred people — could easily fit in Oslo’s largest hotel.
In fact, Norway’s international involvement in the NGO world, academia, and Christian churches often means that what is uttered there can impact all Jews.

Federalism’s free lunch

Maxime Bernier is right: End transfer payments to the provinces. Let Ottawa give them greater room to tax their own residents, but let provincial legislatures also have to make the tough choice to increase taxes on their own citizens if the politicians want to spend more on health, education, welfare and other provincial functions Ottawa is now subsidizing.
