Cyber-attack Mars Glenn Beck Fundraiser
NEWSMAX:
Unknown assailants employed a sophisticated cyber attack Thursday to destroy a FreedomWorks server, crashing the grass-roots organization’s Web site just as Fox News personality and radio host Glenn Beck directed listeners there for a major fund-raising push in the critical waning days of the 2010 campaign.
The precisely timed denial-of-service attack sowed chaos, snarling the organization’s Web traffic and setting off a flood of calls from frustrated radio listeners who were unable to access the site to make their donations. The group estimates the attack cost over $40,000 in lost donations alone.

U.S. State Department’s Duplicity at the U.N. Human Rights Council
By ANNE BAYEFSKY:
As the American midterm election campaigns head to the finish line, the Obama administration is trying to convince Jewish voters that its treatment of Israel is not as hostile as it appears. In fact, it’s worse. The U.S. State Department has now adopted a practice honed by Israel’s Arab negotiating partners – saying different things to different audiences. The State Department is distributing for American consumption speeches that it claims were delivered in Israel’s defense at the recent session of the U.N. Human Rights Council. But the remarks American diplomats actually delivered to the U.N. audience, which President Obama so desperately seeks to impress, were strikingly different.

Juan Williams and Double Standards
By Victor Davis Hanson:
Juan Williams was trying to do two things — one, in a personal way reflect the very human and emotional response that many have when they see those distinctively identifiable as Muslims on airplanes in a post-9/11 climate; and two, having said that, then explain why and how we should not in stereotypical fashion simply give in to those fears. His firing, of course, was manifestly unfair and he is now in the Orwellian position of having to explain why he is not a “bigot.”

1. Iranian pastor sentenced to death
(Source: VOM-USA)
Christians in Iran are reporting that Pastor Youcef Nardarkhani has
been sentenced to death for what is called a “thought crime.” Pastor
Youcef, a leader in the Full Gospel “Church of Iran” network, was
arrested in October 2009 after protesting a decision by the government
requiring that his son study the Qur’an. VOM contacts confirm that the
pastor’s trial was held in recent weeks in the 11th Chamber of the
Assize Court of the province of Gilan, but a formal verdict has not
yet been delivered by the court. If a death sentence is officially
handed down and Pastor Youcef is executed, his would be the first
judicial execution of a Christian in Iran in two decades.
Pray that God will fill Pastor Youcef and his family with peace and
that they will continue to stand on the Word, knowing that God
protects His children. Pray for those in charge of Pastor Youcef’s
case, that God would soften their hearts and cause them to overturn
their decision. Pray for all Iranian believers who are in custody,
that they would know that God can use their imprisonment for His
glory.

2. Hindu militants beat Christians in Karnataka, India
(Source: Compass Direct)
Suspected Hindu militants recently beat five Christians, including a
pregnant woman, in Karnataka state, India. Approximately 40 local
Hindus barged into New Public School in the district of Kolar, where
Christians were gathered together for prayer. They then attacked five
pastors, severely beating them. The assailants also struck Kejiya
Fernandes, the wife of one of the pastors, in the stomach. Police
eventually arrived on scene but, when the violence ceased, they took
the Christian victims into custody instead of arresting the
assailants. The believers were detained for more than seven hours,
during which time they were denied medical treatment. They were
released only after Kejiya, four-months pregnant, began to bleed
profusely. She and her husband later received medical treatment. As a
result of her injuries, Kejiya lost the baby she had been carrying.
Pray that God will comfort Kejiya, upholding her with His love and
hope. Pray that her husband and the other victims of this attack will
continue to trust in the Good Shepherd to guide and encourage them
(Psalm 23). Pray that believers in Karnataka will remain confident in
their faith and that their passion for Jesus will be a light that
helps lead others to come to know Him.

3. Christian sentenced to three years in prison in Bhutan
(Source: Compass Direct)
A Christian was sentenced on October 6 to three years in prison for
“attempting to promote civil unrest” by screening films on
Christianity in the predominately Buddhist nation of Bhutan. Four
months ago, Prem Singh Gurung (40) was arrested after local residents
complained that he was showing Christian films in the villages of
Gonggaon and Simkharkha in Jigmecholing block. Prem was charged with
violation of the Bhutan Information, Communication and Media Act of
2006. Sections 105(1) and 110 of this law require that authorities
examine all films before public screening. While Prem has the right to
appeal, at last report it was not yet known if he intended to take
that course or even had the resources to do so.
Pray that God will bring to mind verses of Scripture to comfort Prem
in his time of hardship (Psalm 119:49-56). Pray that he will continue
to be a bold witness for Christ. Pray for enduring faith for other
Bhutanese believers suffering for righteousness’ sake. You can post a
prayer for Prem on our Persecuted Church Prayer Wall at

4. Police harass Chinese Christians invited to international
conference
(Source: ChinaAid)
Several Chinese Christian invitees to The Third Lausanne Congress on
World Evangelization — which began on October 16 in Cape Town, South
Africa — have recently faced harassment from authorities. On October
17, police raided a hotel in Beijing where more than 30 house church
Christians, all invited delegates of the Lausanne Congress who had
been blocked by Beijing customs officials, were gathered for a worship
service. The officials charged the believers with holding an illegal
gathering and sent most of them home. Others, including at least four
pastors, were seized by police and taken to an undisclosed location.
According to the pastors’ families, authorities plan to detain the
leaders until October 25 — the last day of the Lausanne Congress.
Pray for the release of those detained. Pray that Chinese believers
facing opposition will stand firm in their faith and continue to live
in unwavering obedience to the Lord. Pray for God’s blessings on the
Lausanne Congress. Pray that the Chinese government will recognize the
rights of its Christian citizens and uphold true justice.

5. Pray for North Korean Christians amid political transition
(Source: Christian Post, VOM-USA)
The recent naming of Kim Jong Un, the youngest son of North Korean
dictator Kim Jong Il, as Vice Chairman of the Worker’s Party Central
Military Commission has led the nation into a political transition
which many view as a turning point for the country’s Christian
population. On October 10, during what is said to be the largest
military parade staged by North Korea, the nation was officially
introduced to Kim Jong Un, who is expected to succeed his ailing
father as the country’s leader. Little is known about Kim Jong Un.
Some are hopeful that his appointment to leadership will lead to an
improvement in the ruthless treatment of Christians in the nation,
where believers are regularly imprisoned, tortured and even killed for
following Christ.
Ask God to protect and encourage North Korean Christians during these
political changes. Pray that believers will be fortified by His love
and sustained by His power as they look ahead to the future. Pray that
God will reveal Himself to Kim Jong Il and graciously transform his
heart and the hearts of his subordinates so that they will embrace
Christ.

Bill Moyers, Still Working For PBS, Even After Comparing GOP to Taliban
By DANIEL HALPER:
Please sign me up for The Weekly Standard weekly newsletter.
The sister channels PBS (television) and NPR (radio) must have radically different standards. What those are exactly isn’t really clear. But we now know what is a firing offense at NPR, considering what happened to Juan Williams. As for PBS, the television station allows their employees to compare the Taliban to Republicans.
As Steve Hayes reported previously in THE WEEKLY STANDARD, Bill Moyers was a “pioneer” in this field:

All Things Considered, Public Broadcasting Should Be Abolished
by Bryan Preston:
National Public Radio, a taxpayer funded network with a decidedly leftward tilt, has fired longtime commentator Juan Williams. Ed Driscoll reported on this last night, and it’s all over the blogs today. The story arc here is that Williams said something the left and CAIR didn’t like, the left and CAIR raised a stink, and NPR immediately capitulated to them. Juan Williams’ decades of dedicated service at NPR as one of its few credible, mainstream voices ended in a flash.
Three points should be front and center. One, Williams made the comments for which NPR fired him not on their air, but on the Fox News Channel. Two, Williams’ actual comments weren’t all that incendiary and were factually accurate, yet the Muslim Brotherhood mouthpieces at CAIR made an issue of them and so NPR, ever the dutiful dhimmi, fired him. Hey, it’s either that or face whatever maumauing CAIR was cooking up as a next step. And three, this is the second time this week that a public broadcaster said or did something controversial and politically charged, yet only one of the two has faced any disciplinary action.

Cafe owner ordered to remove extractor fan because neighbour claimed ‘smell of frying bacon offends Muslims’
By Daily Mail:
A hard-working cafe owner has been ordered to tear down an extractor fan – because the smell of her frying bacon ‘offends’ Muslims.
Planning bosses acted against Beverley Akciecek, 49, after being told her next-door neighbour’s Muslim friends had felt ‘physically sick’ due to the ‘foul odour’.
Councillors at Stockport Council in Greater Manchester say the smell from the fan is ‘unacceptable on the grounds of residential amenity’.
The fan has been in Beverley’s Snack Shack takeaway in the Shaw Heath area of the town for the past three years.
Mrs Akciecek and her husband Cetin, 50, – himself a Turkish Muslim – work more than 50 hours a week buying, preparing and cooking hot and cold sandwiches and hot-pots for their customers.

Soros Gives $1 Million to Target Fox News
NEWSMAX:
Billionaire currency titan George Soros, long a patron of liberal political causes in the United States, is giving $1 million to Media Matters in what he says is an attempt to stop the growing popularity of Fox News.
The money, Soros said, is designed purely to “to hold Fox News accountable for the false and misleading information they so often broadcast.”
The donation was all the more notable since Soros, who has donated to MoveOn.org and other liberal political websites, said this year that he was holding back from giving to Democrats in the midterm elections because the Republican “avalanche” in those elections would be nearly impossible to stop.

Biodiversity: Replaces Climate Change As The Weapon For Political Control
By Dr. Tim Ball:
The reality that global warming and climate change are natural and current patterns are within historic patterns is taking hold. Fundamental common sense embedded in the majority of people joined with truth pursuers and the healing perspective of time to bring reason. As always, those who profit politically, financially, or both, fight a rearguard action. Partly to defend the misdirection, but often to move the focus, while maintaining the target. Some of these different foci hover around the edge of the main battleground, but most are unaware how they’re interconnected.

NPR: Where “Teabag” Videos Are Defended But Blaming 9-11 on Muslims Will Get You Fired
by Jim Hoft:
National Public Radio used taxpayer dollars to bash teabaggers on their website–
“Learn to Speak Teabag”The video poked fun of the angry teabaggers showing their Nazi and Stalin signs.
Here is the video from the NPR website:
After a controversy erupted over this nasty liberal cartoon last year NPR posted a response on their website. NPR executives said they would not apologize for the cartoon by Mark Fiore, nor would they remove it from the NPR site. NPR did however enlarge the word “OPINION” on the page where Fiore’s cartoon appears and labeled it his “personal take” on the issue.
Byron York wrote more on the controversy at The Washington Examiner including this:

Soros-Funded Documentary Embraces Left-Wing Terrorists Who Plotted To Kill Republicans
by Matthew Vadum:
Radical philanthropist George Soros is bankrolling a documentary that celebrates left-wing terrorists who plotted to napalm Republicans at the 2008 GOP convention in Minnesota. Even worse, you too are bankrolling the film through your taxes.
You can be sure that if right-wing terrorists were plotting to attack the Democratic National Convention, whoever foiled that conspiracy would be immortalized in film, literature and song as a savior of democracy.

Will NPR fire Nina Totenberg for wishing Jesse Helms would get AIDS?
By: J.P. Freire:
Figuring out what’s inconsistent with NPR’s editorial standards can be awful difficult. The network terminated the contract for Fox News contributor Juan Williams because of a comment about Muslims, but apparently has yet to take a similar action against Nina Totenberg. From Reason’s Michael Moynihan:

Vaclav Klaus: An anti-human ideology
By Václav Klaus:
The global warming dispute starts with a doctrine which claims that the rough coexistence of climate changes, of growing temperatures and of man-made increments of CO2 in the atmosphere — and what is more, only in a relatively short period of time — is a proof of a causal relationship between these phenomena. To the best of my knowledge there is no such relationship between them. It is, nevertheless, this claim that forms the basis for the doctrine of environmentalism.
It is not a new doctrine. It has existed under various headings and in various forms and manifestations for centuries, always based on the idea that the starting point of our thinking should be the Earth, the planet or nature, not man or mankind.
