Bloggers Beware – They’re Coming After You!

by Rep. Tom Price (R-GA), BG:

Just when you thought it was safe to start expressing your right to free speech, Democrats in Congress are gearing up for a vote on a new piece of legislation to blatantly undermine the First Amendment. Known as the DISCLOSE Act (HR 5175), this bill – written by the head of the Democrats’ congressional campaign committee – is their response to the recent Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. In short, the Supreme Court found that the government could not restrict the free speech rights of individuals or other entities wishing to participate in the political dialogue.

***********************************

In this week’s edition: reports from Morocco, Pakistan and Nigeria
with an update from Iran.

***********************************

1. Christians deported from Morocco

Officials in Morocco recently expelled 26 foreign Christians, bringing
to approximately 105 the number of Christians who have been deported
in recent months. In March, more than 40 foreign Christians were
forced to leave the country, reportedly due to Muslim hardliners
pressuring the nation’s royalty to show “Islamic solidarity.”
According to Moroccan law, foreigners who have lived in the country
for more than 10 years cannot be deported unless they are accused of a
crime. They also have the right to appeal the deportation order within
48 hours. Those expelled in recent months, however, were given only
hours’ notice and were forcibly escorted to the country’s exit ports.
Very few of the believers were able to appeal. Moroccan officials have
cited “proselytism” as the reason for the deportations.

The deported foreigners have had to leave their families, friends and
communities behind in Morocco. Many of the deportees were the primary
providers for their families. One of the deported said of the
experience, “It’s devastating, because we have invested years of our
lives into our community, business community and charity sectors….
It was like a death in the family — forcibly ejected from the country
without being able to say goodbyes, just like that.”

It has also been reported that at least two Moroccan Christians have
been beaten in recent days, and that police have brought other
believers to police stations daily for psychologically “heavy”
interrogations about the activities of foreign and local Christians.
(Source: Compass Direct)

Pray for guidance and strength for the deported believers. Ask for
God’s provision for their loved ones. Pray that many followers of
Christ will continue His work in Morocco (Matthew 9:36-38).

2. Girl raped, family forced to flee in Pakistan

A Pakistani Christian man, Zafar Masih, and his family fled the
predominately Muslim town of Nai Abadi Tatlay Aali, Punjab province
after he accused a Muslim of beating and raping his 12-year-old
daughter on May 12. His daughter, whose name was withheld, stated that
Ali, a 28-year-old business man, attacked her when she went to his
home where she worked as a house servant. Zafar immediately went to
the police station to file charges, but the Station House Officer
Inspector refused and began to pressure him to withdraw the
accusation. A powerful local politician along with the area’s largest
land owner, Imtiyaz Kharral, has since threatened to maim or kill him.
Even with the immense pressure, Zafar refused to withdraw his
application. The Inspector has denied any wrongdoing, stating that he
declined to register a rape case because he did not want to harm the
Christian girl’s dignity. Instead, he had recommended trying to
resolve the conflict in a public gathering. At a meeting held at
Imtiyaz’s farmhouse on May 13, the Christians were not permitted to
even speak. Zafar was told that he had to drop the rape charge or else
he and all local Christian families would be relocated.

Most of the Christians in this area of Pakistan are construction
labourers, sanitation workers and domestic servants working for daily
wages. “My eldest daughter worked as a maidservant for a monthly
salary of 500 rupees (approximately $6.00 CAD) to lend a hand,” Zafar
said. “We Christians in Pakistan have no life even dogs live better
life than us.” (Source: Compass Direct)

Pray for God’s healing and mercy in the life of Zafar’s daughter. Ask
God to sustain and provide for her and her family at this time. Pray
that as they suffer they will remain steadfast in the faith (1 Peter
5:8-10). Pray for equality and justice for Christians in Pakistan. To
post a prayer of solidarity with this suffering family, please visit

3. Church property attacked by Muslims in Kano state, Nigeria

Muslim youths launched an attack on the Evangelical Church Winning All
(ECWA) premises in Kano state in northern Nigeria on May 19,
destroying two church buildings and a pastor’s residence. The attack
reportedly grew out of a land dispute. “The problem started when some
Christian youths of ECWA church were converted to Islam,” said the
Rev. Lado Abdul, chairman of ECWA district in Kano. “They swore that
the ECWA church would not remain in the area, as they would do
everything possible to chase Christians out from Kiru.” Abdul also
lamented the denial of rights to Christians in Kano by area Muslims.
“Here in Kano, nobody gives you land to build a church,” he said. “The
old churches built before now are being demolished for reasons no one
can easily grasp.” Four suspects have been arrested in connection with
the attack and police are reportedly continuing to investigate the
situation. (Source: Compass Direct)

Pray that the believers of this church will be bold in faith in the
midst of opposition. Ask God to work in the hearts and lives of
militant Muslims in Nigeria, drawing them to repentance and faith in
Him (Acts 9:1-19). Pray for peace throughout Nigeria.

4. Update: Christian women acquitted, couple released on bail in Iran

On May 22, Maryam Rustampoor and Marzieh Amirizadeh — Iranian
believers who were imprisoned for their Christian activities in March
2009 (see http://www.persecution.net/ir-2010-04-15.htm
) — were acquitted of all charges. Eager to thank those who have been
praying for them, Marzieh shared, “We are most grateful to everyone
who prayed for us. I have no doubt that God heard the prayers of His
people.” The women fled the same day that they were acquitted due to a
warning from the Iranian judicial authorities that any future
Christian activities would have severe consequences. They have
reportedly arrived safely in another country. “We hope to eventually
share some of what the Lord allowed us to go through to highlight the
need and the opportunity for the church in Iran,” Maryam shared. “But
right now we will take time to pray and seek the Lord for His will.”

A Christian couple that was arrested in February 2010 during a raid on
their home in Isfahan (see

http://www.persecution.net/ir-2010-03-04.htm

for more information) has been released following a large bail
payment. Reyhaneh was released on May 16 and her husband, Hamid, was
released three days later. They have been reunited with their teenage
sons and are reportedly in good physical health. However, there is
fear that their release is only temporary, as they expect to face a
court hearing. (Sources: Elam Ministries, Farsi Christian News
Network)

Praise the Lord that the charges against Maryam and Marzieh have been
dropped! Pray that they will continue to boldly proclaim the Lord’s
work in their lives. Thank the Lord that Reyhaneh and Hamid have been
released and reunited with their family. Pray that the charges against
them will be dropped. Pray that the steadfast faith of these Iranian
believers will encourage other Christians in the country who are
suffering persecution.

Soros-funded group: Stop Big Media

WorldNetDaily:

A coalition initiated by a George Soros-funded, Marxist-founded organization calling itself Free Press is petitioning to “stop Big Media.”

A newly released book, meanwhile, documents Free Press has close ties to top Obama administration officials.

Last week, WND reported Free Press published a study advocating the development of a “world class” government-run media system in the U.S.

Now the group is pushing a new organization, StopBigMedia.com, that advocates the downfall of “big media” and the creation of new media to “promote local ownership, amplify minority voices, support quality journalism, and bring local artists, voices and viewpoints to the airwaves.”

[...]

The board of Free Press has included a slew of radicals, such as Obama’s former “green jobs” czar” Van Jones, who resigned after it was exposed he founded a communist organization.

Obama’s “Internet czar,” Susan P. Crawford, spoke at a Free Press’s May 14, 2009, “Changing Media” summit in Washington, D.C, revealed “The Manchurian President” book.

“Manchurian” shows Crawford’s pet project, OneWebNow, lists as “participating organizations” Free Press and the controversial Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN.

Crawford and Kevin Werbach, who co-directed the Obama transition team’s Federal Communications Commission Review team, are advisory board members at Public Knowledge, a George Soros-funded public interest group.

A Public Knowledge advisory board member is Timothy Wu, who is also chairman of the board for Free Press.

Like Public Knowledge, Free Press also has received funds from Soros’ Open Society Institute.

Glenn Beck’s departure from Fox News, Part 1

Robert Ringer, WND:

[...]

In laying down the gauntlet, Beck has pointed out that as a recovering alcoholic, he’s already been at the bottom, so nothing scares him. “The worst thing that can happen in my life,” Beck has said, “is to lose my honor and to return to my Heavenly Father without honor – without doing what I was supposed to do.” When people talk like this, it represents a very big problem for those in power.

Beck has made it clear that he is not afraid of losing everything if that’s what it takes to convey the truth to as many people as possible. And, as the far left knows all too well, a man who is willing to lose everything can be a huge obstacle to its achieving its socialist objectives.

The willingness to lose everything is, in fact, a key to being a successful revolutionary, or, in Beck’s case, a counter-revolutionary. How many people do you know who are prepared to lose everything to fight for what they believe in?

Not long ago, Beck came right out and said, “I’m going out swinging.” That statement carried with it some very strong implications. Clearly, something has to give.

My best guess? I hope I’m wrong, but I have long had the feeling that Glenn Beck will be leaving Fox News other than through old-age retirement.

How might his departure come about? The way I see it, there are four possible avenues of exit, which I will discuss in detail tomorrow in Part 2 of this column.

Who Will Be the Next Einstein to Save the U.S. From Nuclear Destruction?

By: Lev Navrozov:

[...]

The savior of the United States and other free countries was a man of genius named Einstein and known outside any university or their degrees.

It is true that once he attended a university only because he needed a degree to teach physics. He did not, however, attend a single lecture.

In his letter of 1939, a copy of which is on the wall of my study, he drew President Roosevelt’s attention to nuclear weapons and said that the United States and its allies must proceed immediately to the development of nuclear weapons before Germany develops them first and uses them against its enemy countries.

Freedom enabled Einstein, a Jew, to live safely outside Germany and to send a letter to the president of the United States, and the United States, the incarnation of freedom in the age of national socialism (“Nazism”), was able, with its allies, to develop nuclear bombs ahead of Hitler, who thus became not the owner of the world, but a suicide mission.

The world was saved by one man of genius, not by 4,790,000 American university-degree holders. Not a single university-degree holder wrote to Roosevelt what Einstein did.

“Artificial Life” Or Intelligently Designed Plagiarism?

ENV:

As Jonathan Wells recently observed, it’s being widely reported on internet news sites that biotech guru Craig Venter and his team have created “artificial life.” BBC News has a good description of what was really done:

How a Synthetic Cell Was Created:

    1. The scientists “decoded” the chromosome of an existing bacterial cell – using a computer to read each of the letters of genetic code.
    2. They copied this code and chemically constructed a new synthetic chromosome, piecing together blocks of DNA.
    3. The team inserted this chromosome into a bacterial cell which replicated itself. Synthetic bacteria might be used to make new fuels and drugs.

(See ‘Artificial life’ breakthrough announced by scientists, BBC News, May 20, 2010.)

To be sure, this work is a technical accomplishment — with the potential to lead to applications in medical, pharmaceutical, and biological research. But did they really create “artificial life”?

The operative phrase above is, “They copied this code.”

The FCC’s Covert Mission to ‘Balance’ Broadcast Media Ownership

By Chuck Rogér

Should Americans be concerned about a Federal Communications Commission official having once suggested that if government doesn’t help minorities reduce white ownership of broadcast media, then only violence would assure the protection of minorities’ civil rights [1]? In the little-noticed 2007 publication “The Erosion of Civil Rights,” Mark Lloyd attempted to make a case for Washington controlling media ownership. At the time, Lloyd — now FCC Chief Diversity Officer — was a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress. Lloyd’s contribution, “Civil Rights and Communications Policy-2006,” is saturated with straw man arguments.

Ideologues use two predominant straw man templates. Type I declares the existence of nonexistent problems in order to draw implications that bolster ideological talking points. Type II offers imagined evidence against imagined problems to strengthen talking points.

A New Age of Reform

By DANIEL HENNINGER:

When the history of this Reform is written, the event that ignited it may be the Obama health-care plan. The year spent with that legislation caused something to snap in American politics.

ObamaCare touched live cables buried beneath the political roadbed. Amid a deep recession, it was very expensive, and its cost required an array of new taxes and fees. Normally the trillion-dollar price tag might have rolled past a public numbed to spending numbers. This came right after the nearly trillion-dollar stimulus bill, itself a cats-and-dogs heave of taxpayer cash. The health-care celebration was followed by passage of a $3.8 trillion federal budget claiming nearly 25% of GDP.

Just off center stage, the fiscal catastrophe in the states played on. The public could watch once-wonderful California (whose deficit is now $19 billion) issuing IOUs in place of tax refunds.

For the Reform-minded, the issue clarified: The question is not just “deficits” and fiscal reconciliation, but whether the nation’s people work to support the state, or as originally, to build their lives.

The Sestak Stonewall

by Dick Morris, FrontPage:

Rep. Joe Sestak, the winner of the Pennsylvania Democratic Senate primary, says quite openly and repeatedly that he was offered a job by the White House if he would drop out of the race against Sen. Arlen Specter. Having secured Specter’s conversion to the Democratic Party, thus giving the party a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, the Obama administration obviously sought to keep its word to Specter that it would do its utmost to deliver the Democratic nomination to him. According to Sestak, that included a job offer.

Who made the offer? What position was offered? And when did it happen? Sestak, who was nominated on a platform of “transparency” refuses to answer any of these questions. The White House admits that a conversation took place but won’t provide any details and insists that an “internal investigation” revealed that “nothing inappropriate” took place.

Or did it?

Is Europe heading for a meltdown?

By Edmund Conway, Telegraph [UK]:

Europe was always heading for a crunch. For years, the German and Dutch economies pulled in one direction (high saving, low spending) while the Club Med bloc – Greece, Portugal, Spain, Italy (and their Celtic outpost Ireland) – pulled in the other. At some point, there was always going to be a problem, given that these two economic blocs were yoked together in the same currency, controlled by the same central bank. By triggering the global recession and shovelling an unexpected load of debt on to Greece’s balance sheet, the financial crisis has effectively smoked out the European folly.

The Club Med nations – and in many senses Britain – were not so different to sub-prime households: they borrowed cheap in order to raise their standards of living, ignoring the question of whether they could afford to take on so much debt. But, as King points out, sub-prime households – and the banks that lent to them – can usually be bailed out. The International Monetary Fund simply does not have enough cash to bail out a major economy like Spain, Italy or, heaven forfend, Britain. So, again, we find ourselves in unknown territory.

Walpin-gate reopens

By THE WASHINGTON TIMES:

Republican senators ought to place an open and immediate hold upon the nomination of Jon A. Hatfield as inspector general of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). The legislative hold is necessary not to question Mr. Hatfield’s fitness for the job, but to insist that the job itself should not yet be deemed open. The former inspector general (IG), the improperly dismissed Gerald Walpin, filed a motion in court May 20 to force a judge to stop ignoring his lawsuit for reinstatement. Until he receives his day in court, no replacement should be confirmed.

President Obama dismissed the widely respected Mr. Walpin on June 11, 2009, shortly after Mr. Walpin issued two reports highly embarrassing to political allies of the president. Despite a legal requirement that presidents provide 30 days’ notice to remove any IG and provide an explanation for the dismissal, Mr. Obama originally did neither. When the White House belatedly offered some reasons, they were rife with errors, inconsistencies and a few outright falsehoods.

Modern Civil Rights: Cockfighting & Same-Sex Proms

by Ann Coulter:

As with the 1957 and 1960 civil rights acts, it was Republicans who passed the 1964 Civil Rights Act by huge majorities. A distinctly smaller majority of Democrats voted for it.

In the Senate, for example, 82 percent of Republicans voted for the act, compared with only 66 percent of Democrats. In the House, 80 percent of Republicans supported the law, compared with only 63 percent of Democrats.

With even all Democrats coming aboard on opposition to race discrimination (and it only took them 45 years!) I think we can stipulate that everyone in America is opposed to discrimination against blacks.

Now let’s talk about the “civil rights” lawsuits that are actually brought in modern America. Today’s “civil rights” lawsuits have nothing to do with black Americans. Worse, blacks are used as props to benefit the Democrats’ favored constituencies: feminists and trial lawyers.

Pyongyang’d Again

By David Warren:

A North Korean submarine torpedoed and sank a South Korean gunboat in March, killing 46 sailors. This was the conclusion of a thorough investigation by experts from the U.S., Australia, Britain, and Sweden, last week. The White House then decried “an act of aggression,” omitting that it was also an act of war. The latest of many.

While it is true that the leaders of North Korea are insane, it is not helpful to leave matters there. Even the insane have motivations, and in this case, numerous allies. In the past, Pyongyang’s most belligerent acts have been performed with a certain base cunning, and generous consideration of the interests of their allies: chiefly Iran, and China.

The New Korean War

by Stephen Brown, FrontPage:

President Obama may soon discover his predecessor, George Bush, was more than correct in designating North Korea an “Axis of Evil” state.

As the United States announced on Monday it would conduct joint naval exercises with the South Korean navy in response to the sinking of a South Korean warship two months ago, North Korea, the nation deemed responsible for the disaster that cost 46 lives, raised tensions by putting its military forces on a war footing.

Asia Times reported yesterday that North Korean leader Kim Jong-il, in a military broadcast, placed his million plus armed forces on “combat readiness,” causing concern worldwide about North Korean intentions as well as a drop in major stock markets.

[...]

Unlike in the 1990s though, North Korean citizens are reported to be more restless regarding their cruel, state-sponsored fate. The underground black market is reported as thriving, indicating a disregard for the government, as the people are becoming more aware of what is happening outside their country, especially on the North Korean-Chinese border, where smuggling and Chinese cell phones, although illegal, have connected North Koreans with the modern world.

To block this unrest from becoming a popular uprising and detract people’s attention from their misery, the North Korean government may do what the Argentinean military junta did in 1982 when faced with a similar disastrous economic situation and restless population: launch a military adventure. And with the 60th anniversary of the start of the Korean War next month, Kim Jong-il may see that as a sign to “finish the task” of reuniting the Koreas, especially while his government still controls the population.

Last week, one of the millions of workers hired by Census 2010 to parade around the country counting Americans blew the whistle on some statistical tricks.

The worker, Naomi Cohn, told The Post that she was hired and fired a number of times by Census. Each time she was hired back, it seems, Census was able to report the creation of a new job to the Labor Department.

Just another act of deadly treason

Ralph Peters, NY Post:

Yesterday, The New York Times published another front-page article based on a leaked classified document. This time, it was an order signed by Gen. David Petraeus authorizing black operations against adversaries and such dubious friends as Iran, Syria, Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
Gee, thanks. We really needed to know that. The world’s a better place now.

Yet the Times’ sin was the lesser one. The paper has long since given up any pretense of patriotism. (Ugh! Yuck!) Its editors are just publishing and perishing as citizens of the world.

It’s whoever leaked the document that bears the burn-in-hell blame.
Petraeus: People will die thanks to the leak of his classified order.

We must be able to keep secrets in wartime. But we can’t. Because domestic political agendas trump national security in every administration nowadays.

Exposing that seven-page classified document warned our enemies (and pseudo friends) that we’ve expanded our efforts to uncover terror networks and potential targets. This not only increases the virulent paranoia in the region’s police states, but poses a mortal danger to agents, special operators and the innocent.
