Filthy Mexico comes to lecture us
By Ezra Levant:
President Felipe Calderon of filthy Mexico has come to Canada to lecture us on the environment.
Perhaps Iran’s president will be next in line, to teach us something about the treatment of women, and China’s president will come to give us tips on a free press.
Mexico City isn’t famous for much, but it is famous for its filthy air. That’s a picture of it above; here’s a story or two about it.
Pollution isn’t Mexico’s only problem, of course. Massive corruption is another problem; brutal gang wars are another. Et cetera.
And then there’s the drip, drip, drip murder of Canadian tourists down there.

Obama and Kagan are Memorial Day MIAs
Kay Daly:
America is now a nation with a commander in chief—while the nation is fighting two wars– who will not take the time to pay his respects at Arlington National Cemetary on Memorial Day to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
What does this say to those who are currently serving in a dangerous conflict around the world? The White House casually announced that President Obama will stop by a veterans cemetery in Chicago, but that really isn’t Arlington National Cemetery, a symbol recognized worldwide of America’s ever-vigilant fight against tyranny and for liberty.
Perhaps we should be thankful that Obama isn’t merely driving by the cemetery and tossing a wreath out of his limousine window given his track record of snubbing the military.

Elena Kagan was outright hostile to military recruiters who dared to venture onto the Harvard Law School campus while she was the dean. As Ed Whelan wrote in Bench Memos on May 14, 2010, “…Kagan treated military recruiters worse than she treated the high-powered law firms that were donating their expensive legal services to anti-American terrorists.”
[...]
While Elena Kagan is busily molding the Constitution like a toddler with a new handful of Playdoh, our servicemen and women around the world will continue to sacrifice everything to protect and preserve the Constitution and the liberties it affords to these very citizens who hold them in contempt.
Military families everywhere have much to grieve for this Memorial Day.
Whose Blowout Is It, Anyway?
Charles Krauthammer:
When you anoint yourself King Canute, you mustn’t be surprised when your subjects expect you to command the tides.
Here’s my question: Why are we drilling in 5,000 feet of water in the first place?
Many reasons, but this one goes unmentioned: Environmental chic has driven us out there. As production from the shallower Gulf of Mexico wells declines, we go deep (1,000 feet and more) and ultra deep (5,000 feet and more), in part because environmentalists have succeeded in rendering the Pacific and nearly all the Atlantic coast off-limits to oil production. (President Obama’s tentative, selective opening of some Atlantic and offshore Alaska sites is now dead.) And of course, in the safest of all places, on land, we’ve had a 30-year ban on drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
So we go deep, ultra deep — to such a technological frontier that no precedent exists for the April 20 blowout in the Gulf of Mexico.

It’s Friday Night — Obamacrats Bad News Dump
Pam Gellar, Atlas Shrugs:
Think things are out of hand yet ? Kenny S wrote, “the media went on the Memorial Day holiday about a half-hour ago. About ten minutes later, ‘guess who’ passed a tax increase on the per-barrel rate for oil – from 8 cents to 34 cents.
The House vote was 215 to 204.
Everything is about to go up in cost….. EVERYTHING.
Your income, if you’re lucky enough to still be employed or still in business, stays the same (actually decreases due to the additional expenses for everything is about to go up in cost.”
They are robbing us blind. And Obama is blaming ……………Bush for the spill. Got that?

Fossil Finds Show Cambrian Explosion Getting More Explosive
Posted by Casey Luskin:
Cephalopods, which include marine mollusks like squid, octopus, and cuttlefish, are now being reported in the Cambrian explosion fossils. As a recent BBC news article reports:
“We go from very simple pre-Cambrian life-forms to something as complex as a cephalopod in the geological blink of an eye, which illustrates just how quickly evolution can produce complexity,” said [evolutionary biologist Martin] Smith.
Keep in mind here that “evolution” is a placeholder term for an as-of-yet uncovered mechanism that produces animals like Cephalopods in a “geological blink of an eye.” Darwin’s Dilemma is not solved by vague appeals “how quickly” evolution can operate.
All this follows on the heels of recent fossil findings that push phylum Bryozoa back into the Cambrian period, and echinoderms back to the early Cambrian.
Isn’t “evolution” amazing?
Think Al Gore will believe this?
From an email [h/t: Robert A. Jordan]:
Think Al Gore will believe this?

For all of you out there in America and across the globe who have fought so hard to tackle the hideous enemy of our planet, namely carbon emissions, that bogus god you worship named “Climate Change” or “Global Warming”, there is some really bad news that will be very painful for you to process. But it is my duty to pass it on to you anyway.
Are you sitting down?
Okay, here’s the bombshell. The current volcanic eruption going on in Iceland, in it’s first week of spewing volcanic ash, NEGATED EVERY SINGLE EFFORT you have made in the past five years to control CO2 emissions on our planet. Not only that, this single act of God, in it’s first week, has added emissions to the earth estimated to be 42 times more than can be corrected by the extreme human regulations proposed for annual reduction.
I know, I know…. (have a group hug)…it’s very disheartening to realize that all of the carbon emission savings you have accomplished while suffering the inconvenience and expense of driving Prius hybrids, buying fabric grocery bags, sitting up til midnight to finish your kid’s “The Green Revolution” science project, throwing out all of your non-green cleaning supplies, using only two squares of toilet paper, putting a brick in your toilet tank reservoir, selling your SUV and speedboat, going on vacation to a city park instead of Yosemite, nearly getting hit every day on your bicycle, replacing all of your $1 light bulbs with $10 light bulbs …well, all of those things you have done have all gone down the tubes in just the first week.
The volcanic ash emitted into the Earth’s atmosphere in the first week has totally erased every single effort you have made to reduce the evil beast, carbon. And, those hundreds of thousands of American jobs you helped move to Asia with expensive emissions demands on businesses… you know, the ones that are creating even more emissions than when they were creating American jobs, well that must seem really worthwhile now.
I’m so sorry. And I do wish that there was some kind of a silver lining to this volcanic ash cloud but the fact of the matter is that the brush fire season across the western U.S.A. will start in about two months and those fires will negate your efforts to reduce carbon emissions in our world for the next two years.
So, grab a Coke, give the world a hug, and have nice day!
U.S. trying to deport ‘Son of Hamas’
By Art Moore, WorldNetDaily:
The Department of Homeland Security is trying to deport the son of a Hamas founder who told of his conversion to Christianity and decade of spying for Israel in a New York Times best-seller.
“Son of Hamas” author Mosab Hassan Yousef revealed on a blog hosted by his publisher he is scheduled to appear June 30 before Immigration Judge Rico J. Bartolomei at the DHS Immigration Court in San Diego.
Yousef said the DHS informed him Feb. 23, 2009, he was barred from asylum in the U.S. because there were reasonable grounds for believing he was “a danger to the security of the United States” and “engaged in terrorist activity.”
An incredulous Yousef said the U.S. government’s belief he is a terrorist is based on a complete misinterpretation of passages of his book in which he describes his work as a counterterrorism agent for the Israeli internal intelligence service Shin Bet.
From the world of radical Islam to the world of the radically transformed. Order your copy of “Son of Hamas” from the WND Superstore now!
Yousef said he’s not so much worried about himself as he is “outraged” about “a security system that is so primitive and naive that it endangers the lives of countless Americans.”
“If Homeland Security cannot tell the difference between a terrorist and a man who spent his life fighting terrorism, how can they protect their own people?” he asked in his blog post.

Court Document Reveals Government’s Admission That It Lacked Evidence O’Keefe, Others Intended to Commit Felony At Landrieu’s Office
Posted by Patterico, BJ:
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Louisiana has filed a court document admitting that James O’Keefe did not intend to tamper with the phones at Mary Landrieu’s office, or commit any other felony.
Oh — and the good folks at the Department of Justice don’t particularly want you to know that. This post reveals that, at O’Keefe’s hearing, the Assistant U.S. Attorney tried not to read that part of the document in court. What’s more, the U.S. Attorney pointedly omitted this critical information from their press release.

Vitamin K Protects Against Diabetes
NEWSMAX:
People who get plenty of vitamin K from food may have a lower risk of developing Type 2 diabetes than those who get less of the vitamin, a new study suggests.
[...]
Vitamin K exists in two natural forms: vitamin K-1, or phylloquinone, found largely in green leafy vegetables, as well as some vegetable oils, such as canola and soybean oils; and vitamin K2, or menaquinone, which people get mainly through meat, cheese, and eggs.
In the current study, both vitamins K-1 and K-2 were related to a lower diabetes risk, but the relationship was stronger with vitamin K-2.

Keeping blood supply healthy is job No. 1
The Calgary Herald

The horrific lessons of the Krever Inquiry into the infecting of more than 30,000 Canadians with hepatitis C and HIV through tainted blood have been learned well. The World Health Organization has declared Canada’s blood system to be among the safest in the world. Risking those strict standards for the sake of being politically correct must never be an option.
Now We Know Why Clinton and Obama Had Lunch on Thursday
RUSH LIMBAUGH:
RUSH: I guess now we know why, ladies and gentlemen, Barack Obama, Bill Clinton had lunch yesterday. They had to get their stories straight. You know who this is, and you know what this is, so let’s go.
JOHNNY DONOVAN: And now, from sunny south Florida, it’s Open Line Friday!

Okay, now we know why Clinton and Obama had lunch yesterday. They had to get their stories straight on this Sestak business. It is… (laughing) Folks, this is just too rich. Isn’t it great? Here’s what happened. Apparently Rahm Emanuel went to Clinton and said, “Look, would you go talk to Sestak informally? See if he’s interested in taking a nonpaid — an unpaid job — high position job, unpaid here in the administration.” And Clinton, of course, said (impression), “Hey, Mr. President, whatever you want. You know, I said, ‘You’re going to have to kiss my ass’ back during the campaign if you wanted my support ’cause of the way you called me racist and so forth, the way you portrayed me and Hillary. Now you gotta come kiss my ass. So fine you’re kissing my ass.” I got the story right here. Clinton said that. Sit tight.
“I’m going to kiss your ass, you kiss my ass, and I will make sure that you are all right. You come groveling to me I’ll be happy to help you out here.”

Climate Consensus or Con?
by Rich Trzupek, FrontPage:
The climate change proponents weren’t able to enter any scientific facts that supported their position into evidence. McGlone, Whitty and Mason all pointed toward “scientific consensus” regarding climate change as “proof” that global warming is a problem that requires emergency action. At one point, Lord Whitty declared that 95% of scientists agree that mankind’s influence on the climate would result in catastrophe if left unchecked. Challenged by Monckton to offer evidence of this assertion, Whitty revised the figure downward a bit, to 92%, but never was able to come up with a source for either number. This is climate change advocacy at its best, or rather at its worst. Proponents of the hypothesis grab entirely unsupportable, ridiculous numbers out of thin air and eventually such twaddle is repeated and referenced enough that it becomes a “fact” in the eyes of those who desperately want the doomsday scenario to be true.
Monckton was at the top of his game. When his turn came to speak, his cummerbund somehow came undone. Knowing Monckton this was a rather unlikely “accident,” but rather a bit of theater designed to make a point. He held the garment up to the audience and said:

Send Faiza Ali to Tehran
by Jamie Glazov, FrontPage:
Faiza Ali, of the New York chapter of CAIR, has declared that Muslims can freely leave Islam without anything to worry about. Islam, she says, does not practice coercion and preaches that forced faith is not true belief. She has made this assertion in her criticism of Pamela Geller’s “Leaving Islam” ad campaign on city buses. The campaign is aimed at helping Muslims, like Rifqa Bary, who are fearful of leaving their religion due to Islam’s death penalty for apostasy.
Hmmm, if Faiza is right, I wonder what this poor family’s trouble is all about.
I have an idea, let’s start a fund to send Faiza Ali to Iran, and then to Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

The death-bed confession of the EU elite
Melanie Phillips:
With the crisis over the euro threatening promising to wreck the entire EU project, it would appear that death-bed confessions are now in order from those who have helped promulgate this fanatical cause. The Telegraph reports that the EU President, Herman Van Rompuy, has now admitted that the peoples of Europe were misled over the impact of the euro:

The master of green socialism
Peter Foster, FP:
Like Lewis Carroll’s Humpty Dumpty, Mr. Strong seems to believe that words should mean whatever he wants them to mean. Orwell pointed out that the totalitarian instinct for obfuscation naturally seeks to reverse meaning (War is peace, freedom is slavery, ignorance is strength). And in his self-exoneration, Mr. Strong seeks to squirm around his own frequent assertions that he is a socialist. What he really believes in is “responsible capitalism.” He writhes that his call for modifications of “ballot box democracy” has been woefully misconstrued.
Not.
In fact, Mr. Strong has for decades masterminded a strategy to outflank democracy both from above — via UN organizations — and from below, through well-funded radical NGOs that are sold as the voice of “civil society.” When Mr. Strong avers that he wants “more, not less, democracy,” what he means is more control by NGOs. In a recent article, he wrote that since governments might not like his proposals for a “new economic paradigm,” then political priority had to be given to “the organizations and people participating in this dialogue.” That is, the kind of organizations he allowed into Rio to browbeat delegates.
The terminally leftist Guardian newspaper reflexively leapt to the defence of Mr. Strong, criticizing attacks against him as “ideological.” (Mr. Strong has, I am proud to say, called me an “ideologue.” My favourite definition of the term is “the name you call somebody who’s ideas you can’t refute.”). Mr. Strong liked The Guardian piece so much he posted it on his website. The piece suggested, tediously, that Mr. Strong was merely being made a “bogeyman.” How ridiculous that people should take what he says in plain English and imagine that he really means it! How bizarre to believe that he wants “global government,” and to control people’s lives, just because he says so!

When Professor Obama Meets Dirty Reality
By C. Edmund Wright
Just plug the damned hole! That, more or less, is the leadership and direction we are getting from our President as we grapple with the oil spill in the Gulf. What else should we expect from a socialist theoretician who has never actually accomplished anything in his life?
I guess we could expect him to take credit with his daughters if it works.
This is what happens when an academic finds himself in the position of actually having to get something done.

This is the problem when ivory tower elites get power, they are utterly inept. Far better to take an average farmer or small businessman off the street and put him in power because he understands REALITY.
Something Stinks At the White House
By Bradley Blakeman, FOXNews.com:
When it comes to the continuing Sestak scandal, the White House is up to their eyeballs in a cover-up. Major Garrett, Fox News’ chief White House correspondent flat-out asked the president to come clean at his press conference yesterday. He asked what did the White House know, when did they know it and who participated in conversations with regard to Congressman Sestak being offered a job in exchange for him agreeing not to challenge Senator Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania’s primary.
The president refused to answer Major’s question and instead promised that the White House would have a response soon.
The president knew full well that the strategy was to release the shocking revelation that former President Clinton spoke with Congressman Sestak on the Friday of the long Memorial Day weekend and at a time he knew that the media would be focused almost exclusively on his trip to the Gulf for the BP oil spill disaster. The president himself is now participating in a cover up.

The Gulf Spill: Seizing a Crisis to Grab Your Power
by Christopher C. Horner:
Yesterday’s announcements of slitting our own throat of domestic energy production gives cause to revisit who the man is and where he wants to take us.
Rahm Emanuel among others in the Obama administration are on record asserting their philosophy that no “crisis” should ever go to waste. This mentality, of course, carries the moral hazard of promoting “crises” in the news cycle, and as an operating mentality. We have seen this among green activists (including Obama appointees) for decades.
With crises being your strategic plan for hooks to impose an unpopular and radical agenda, you might even allow crises to develop where they could have been nipped into mere incidents. Who knows.
We do know that Obama has a record of words and now deeds declaring war on all sources of energy that work, including their domestic production: shale gas, coal, oil shale, and petroleum.
Barack Obama and his gloomy band seek to force you out of your lifestyle, meaning your freedoms, all of which they find intolerable and that you cannot be trusted with.

The Meaning of the Tea Party
By William Voegeli, Claremont Institute:
[...]
The Tea Party mission can be described in another way. What’s at stake in the war conservatives have declared on Obamacare is not only 18% of our economy, but 100% of our polity. If the anger over what the Democrats enacted, and the way they passed it, is replaced by acquiescence, America will have taken a big step toward having not only policies but political processes that are indistinguishable from Europe’s. If the people who brought you Obamacare are not rebuked in the elections of 2010 and 2012, they, emboldened, will pursue further social transformations, regardless of popular opposition. Our ruling elites will eagerly adopt their European counterparts’ posture toward the people: You are wrong. We know better. We will do this, and you will like it. To permit Obamacare to stand is to permit such an assertion to go unchallenged, and guarantee that it will become routine. By their passivity, the people will be complicit in their own disempowerment. As Frederick Douglass said in 1857, “Find out just what any people will quietly submit to and you have found out the exact measure of injustice and wrong which will be imposed upon them.”

Drunken Sluts, et al
By Lee Duigon:
Girls just wanna have fun, right? Tell that to the folks at the Parkersburg Art Center, West Virginia, and the Lake Lyndsay Lodge, Ohio.
These are really nice halls whose owners rent them out for wedding receptions, dances, and similar genteel occasions. They feature amenities such as crystal vases, silk flowers, pin-tuck tablecloths, statuary, and the like.
On March 6 at Petersburg, and April 9 at Lake Lyndsay, the sisters of a college sorority, with their dates, held dinner dances at the halls, rented for the occasion. As reported by thesmokinggun.com, the college girls made a total shambles of both halls.
What kind of a shambles? Oh, the usual youthful antics—feces, urine, and vomit all over the place; rugs, floors, and ceilings ruined by food-fights and spilled liquor; vases smashed, statues broken, silk flowers torn apart; a sink ruined by a young lady and her beau trying to have sex on top of it; hall attendants assaulted; tables overturned–$47,000 worth of damage to the Parkersburg Art Center, claim the owners.
