The Mask Slips on Israel’s Left
by P. David Hornik, FrontPage:
“I don’t want to live in the country of Captain Eliraz Peretz or his mother. My consolations to the family…a family of Jihadist Fascists, and don’t dare let anyone say he was killed for my sake.”
The above quote is from Uri Tuval, editor of the magazine section of Israel’s left-wing daily Haaretz. He said it in a Facebook chat with other left-wing journalists, and even some members of his milieu were said to be dismayed at his words. This mini-scandal comes at a time when Haaretz is under attack for its central role in the much larger scandal of the Anat Kam espionage affair.

Lieutenant Colonel Allen B. West: “Kiss the Ring”
by Pamela Geller, Atlas Shrugs:
Salvation and succor in abundance for a deeply trouble nation starving for honorable, honest and courageous leadership. Lt Colonel Allen West sent me his latest……………..just in time.
“Washingtoons”
19 April 2010Lieutenant Colonel Allen B West (US Army, Retired)“Kiss the Ring”
Greetings Wheels on the Road (WOTR) readers, fellow South Floridians, and all Americans, time for another monthly political assessment. There are so many thoughts running through my brain but they all come back to the events of Thursday, 15 April 2010….Tax Day.
On that day I had the distinct honor and pleasure to address two TEA Party groups; Ft Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. It was a fantastic gathering of everyday Americans with their families.
However, we get the topic of this month’s installment from our dear President. It was President Obama who after the tax day rallies admonished the participants that they should just say, “Thank You”. That is correct; his highness believes that you loyal subjects should be thankful for all the new taxes and growth of government imposed in his first year.
So what exactly is the T.E.A. Party movement, first of all it stands for Taxed Enough Already, and associates itself with the original Boston Tea Party. The first tea party lamented the issue of “taxation without representation”. The current tea party addresses “taxation with misrepresentation”, as evidenced by the Obamacare legislative process involving more broken arms than at a rugby match.

Criminalizing Debate
IBD:
Is it really seditious to warn that forcing Americans to buy insurance might violate our constitutional rights? Do you have to be a member of a right-wing militia to worry that we’re speeding ever faster toward a fiscal train wreck? Are you a deranged John Hinckley wannabe if you express concern about the administration softening our nuclear use doctrine, or scaling down missile defense?

Rescuing the Vlad Tepes Videos
by Baron Bodissey, Gates of Vienna:
As most of you know, over the last year or so Vlad Tepes has become the mainstay of our video operation. Vlad does most of the capturing, editing, titling, and uploading of video used here. His contribution has been invaluable.
Recent circumstances indicate that Youtube is moving towards deleting Vlad’s channel, possibly because of accusations that he promotes “hate speech”. The situation is so ominous that Vlad has posted a “mirror me” appeal to fellow Youtubers, urging them to capture and upload his important videos to their own channels:

Clinton Rewrites History, Shifts Blame for Oklahoma City Bombing
RUSH LIMBAUGH:
RUSH: Well, let’s see. We’re having anniversaries to commemorate the Oklahoma City bombing, right? Well, I understand that. Were there any anniversary ceremonies for the Waco invasion? Have we had any anniversary ceremonies for the invasion of Waco by Janet Reno and US military tanks 17 years ago? Or did we do it a couple years ago on that 15th anniversary and I missed it. Did we do that? Seventy-six people who died in the Waco fire, including more than 20 children, two pregnant women at the hands of the US military ordered there by Janet Reno and when Clinton was asked about it, (doing Clinton impression) “Well, you know, you gotta go talk to Attorney General Reno about that, ’cause she’s the one ordered that. I don’t know much about that.”
Greetings, folks. It’s Rush Limbaugh, this the EIB Network, Limbaugh Institute for Advanced Conservative Studies. Great to be-with you here’s the telephone number, 800-282-2882, the e-mail address, ElRushbo@eibnet.com.
Let me ask you a question. This is all over the media. This was so predictable. Starting last Wednesday or Thursday into the weekend the media template was established, the narrative was there, Bill Clinton and Obama blaming the tea parties for a future Oklahoma City type bombing, which hasn’t happened. Let me ask you a question. What was a more likely cause of the Oklahoma City bombing: talk radio or Bill Clinton and Janet Reno’s hands-on management of Waco, the Branch Davidian compound, and maybe to a lesser extent Ruby Ridge. Don’t forget that the Oklahoma City bombing occurred two years to the day after the Waco invasion, two years to the day, and Tim McVeigh as much as said so.

Hillary Clinton Drops ‘Secure’ Borders For Israel From Independence Day Message To Jewish State
Leo Rennert, AT:
U .N. Security Council Resolution 242, adopted after the 1967 Six-Day War called on Israel to withdraw from some — but not all — captured territories in exchange for “secure and recognized” borders for the Jewish state. Ever since, UN Res. 242 has been the international template for a permanent peace agreement.
However, Secretary of State Clinton, in her Independence Day message to Israel, speaks only of Israel settling for internationally “recognized” borders, but pointedly dropped any mention that Israel also was entitled to “secure” borders. The omission is telling.

Obama and Israel: Showdown at the UN?
by: Ben Evansky, FOX NEWS:
The Obama administration is reportedly signaling another major shift in policy towards one of its staunchest allies, Israel, and this shift could change the way it votes at the Security Council. The change would mean an end to the US’ use of its veto power in the United Nations Security Council when certain anti-Israel resolutions are introduced for a vote.
Reports surfaced a couple of weeks ago, that a senior US diplomat met with Qatar’s foreign minister in Paris. They discussed the possibility that the US was giving serious consideration to not using its veto if a vote on Israeli settlements was to come up. It has been the policy of successive administrations to veto virtually all anti-Israel resolutions at the Security Council.
While the Israeli spokesperson at the United Nations would not comment on the reports, US officials at the UN told Fox News that there is no such initiative before the Security Council and they are not “pursuing or encouraging such action”, but some critics believe they are playing a game of smoke and mirrors.
Anne Bayefsky is a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute and Touro College and says the administration, like none other before them, appears prepared to blackmail Israel at the UN.

Guess who’s back to help with Supreme Court pick
By Aaron Klein, WorldNetDaily:
The White House’s controversial former communications director, Anita Dunn, is playing a key role in aiding the Obama administration in its selection of a Supreme Court nominee.
Dunn stepped down from her post in November amid controversy fueled when WND posted a video of Dunn that captured her disclosing to the Dominican government that Barack Obama’s presidential campaign focused on “making” the news media cover certain issues while rarely communicating anything to the press unless it was “controlled.”
That video subsequently was quoted widely by the news media.
Fox News Channel’s Glenn Beck also aired a separate video of Dunn speaking to high school students last June. In her speech, she lists her two “favorite political philosophers,” including Communist Chinese leader Mao Zedong, whose draconian policies are blamed for the deaths of tens of millions of people.

Allan Rocks admits his role in Coulter fiasco
Adrian MacNair, National Post:
[...]
“It was sent on behalf of the administration with my knowledge, so I share responsibility,” Rock said. “I acknowledge that there were other and better ways of achieving the letter’s purpose.”
How nice of him to admit his share of responsibility, though he let Francois Houle take the heat. Since he green-lighted the letter as President of the University, one might even say he owns more than just a share of responsibility for the patronizing and admonishing pre-crime warning sent to Ms. Coulter. It is especially interesting to note that Mr. Rock claims to have been unaware of the political presence that Ann Coulter holds in the United States, yet he decided to become involved in an official rebuke of her political views.
There’s no slipping out of this one. Saying that “there were other and better ways of achieving the letter’s purpose” is refusing to apologize for the situation that he and Mr. Houle directly created.
An alarming outbreak of ‘regime’ amnesia
By: Byron York:
Time’s Joe Klein got some attention over the weekend when he said, on “The Chris Matthews Show,” that statements from Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin are “right up close to being seditious.” What received less attention was the statement immediately following Klein’s, from New York magazine’s John Heilemann, author of the best-seller Game Change. “Joe’s right, and I’ll name another person,” Heilemann said. “You know, name Rush Limbaugh, you know, who uses this phrase constantly, talks about the Obama administration as a ‘regime.’ That phrase, which has connotations of tyranny.”
Heilemann’s accusation echoed one that Chris Matthews himself made on MSNBC’s “Hardball” April 2, when he denounced Limbaugh’s use of the word ‘regime.’ “I’ve never seen language like this in the American press,” Matthews said. “We know that word, ‘regime.’ It was used by George Bush, ‘regime change.’ You go to war with regimes. Regimes are tyrannies. They’re juntas. They’re military coups. The use of the word ‘regime’ in American political parlance is unacceptable, and someone should tell [Limbaugh] to stop using it.” A quick search of the Nexis database revealed more than 6,500 uses of the word “regime” to refer to the Bush administration since January 20, 2001, in the New York Times, Washington Post, MSNBC, and, yes, by Chris Matthews himself.
So now John Heilemann has spoken up. Which leads to an obvious question. Has Heilemann himself ever used that word, with its “connotations of tyranny”?
A search of the Nexis database shows four recent examples of Heilemann using “regime” to refer not to tyrannies but to American domestic politics. He even used the phrase “Obama regime.” For the record:

Geothermal Energy; Another Forgotten Or Ignored Climate Factor
By Dr. Tim Ball:
Climate change research of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is woefully inadequate because of all the factors and mechanisms they ignore.
They are not alone as all parts of climate science lack data, use estimated data, rely on computer model output based on no data, and ignore natural causes of weather and change. The problem is the sheer complexity of weather and therefore climate.

George Soros’s New Economy
By Andrew Foy and Brenton Stransky, AT:
As it happens, the financial crisis wasn’t as opaque as George Soros, INET, or most financial news outlets would have you believe. The Austrian School of Economics and two of its greatest adherents (Ludwig Mises and Friedrich Hayek) postulated in the first half of the 20th century that large economies cannot be rationally planned because market prices (a function of supply and demand) cannot be perfectly known.
The recent financial crisis was to a large degree the result of the housing crisis, which in turn was the result of a reduction in the value of homes from over inflated values. Very basically, mortgages were given to borrowers, and then these mortgages were bundled into “mortgage backed securities,” leveraged sometimes more than thirty times, and presented to investors as relatively safe investments.
When more homeowners than usual couldn’t pay their mortgages to the investors because they overpurchased, the effect was significantly multiplied by the leverage. If only two percent of the mortgages went to foreclosure, but the portfolio of mortgage backed securities was leveraged at thirty times, then the effect would be a 60% loss. These foreclosures became known as toxic mortgages and were the contagion by which the financial crisis spread.
The above explanation is dangerously simple but important to touch on because to a large extent, the government intervention in the market directly caused this financial crisis through at least three interventions.

The Real Demographic Threat
Evelyn Gordon, Commentary:
As Israel celebrates its 62nd Independence Day this evening, is the country actually independent? Judging by the remarks of some of its leading politicians, one would have to conclude that the answer is no.
Speaking at a Memorial Day ceremony yesterday, for instance, Defense Minister and Labor-party chairman Ehud Barak declared that only by signing a peace agreement with the Palestinians could Israel preserve its Jewish majority. Ehud Olmert made this claim even more bluntly in 2007, when he was prime minister, declaring that if “the two-state solution collapses … the State of Israel is finished.” Olmert’s successor as head of the Kadima party, opposition leader Tzipi Livni, has made similar remarks.
In other words, Israel has no control over its own fate; its continued existence depends entirely on the goodwill of a nation that would like nothing better than to see it disappear. Moreover, all the Palestinians have to do to secure this outcome is to continue doing exactly what they have done for the past 17 years: say “no” to every peace offer Israel makes. If that is true, Israel really is finished.
In reality, of course, the Barak-Olmert-Livni conclusion is ridiculous even if one believes the demographic doomsayers (there are grounds for skepticism, but that’s another story).
