Obama betrays and insults Britain yet again
US refuses to endorse British sovereignty in Falklands oil dispute
The Falklands belonged to Britain before the nation of Argentina even existed.
That was then, this is then?
By William R. Mann, CFP:
“I am more concerned about the return of my money than the return on my money.”—Mark Twain
I am no expert in economics, or the political and fiscal manipulations by the Federal Reserve, the US Treasurer, the Congress, or the Executive. But today, I was reading an article by analyst Thomas E. Woods, Jr. of the Von Mises Institute, entitled “The Great Gold Robbery of 1933,” when I developed that uneasy “uh-oh” feeling.
This article was written shortly before the Financial Crisis of September 2008 and before the enactment of the Troubled Asset Relief Program [TARP] legislation. As I read through this, I recalled all of the recent talk about the Glass-Steagall Act. I decided subsequently to do a simple search of the archives of Time.com.
But, before taking a trip down memory road to that thrilling yesteryear of 1933, let’s review the latest and biggest banking disaster in US History.

But wait! There’s less!
Kathy at five feet of fury:
Not at all surprisingly: Amnesty International (Canada) is using the story of poor “tortured” Ahmad Abou-Elmaati in their fundraising materials.
These fundraising materials go into some presumably humanizing, heart-string-pulling detail about every member of Ahmad Abou-Elmaati’s immediate family.
Except one…
Oddly enough!
Why not ask Amnesty International why they left out that little nugget in their efforts to make more money?

No longer Londonistan but Hamastan
Melanie Phillips:
An immensely important and chilling analysis by the authoritative Intelligence and Analysis Information Centre in Tel Aviv highlights the shocking extent to which Britain has become the European epicentre of Hamas activity. Hamas, let us remind ourselves, is the genocidal terrorist Muslim Brotherhood organisation, now in cahoots with Shi’ite Iran, which is pledged to exterminate Israel and kill Jewish people everywhere, along with extinguishing human rights within the Islamic world. Its cause should be absolute anathema to the west, which should be doing everything in its power to stamp it out as the unconscionable threat that it is to life and liberty. Yet for the past decade, Britain has turned itself into the principal focus within Europe for the political, propaganda and legal activities of Hamas. The report states:

There’s a blackout coming – unless someone sees the light
By Benedict Brogan, TELEGRAPH [UK]:
The global warming circus has stamped its carbon footprint on Bali, where tonight, behind closed doors, Dr Rajendra Pachauri will plead for his job. It is unclear whether the biggest gathering of environment ministers since the Copenhagen summit will have the courage to push the walking calamity who heads the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change into standing down, though it should. His credibility has been shredded, and he now resorts to matching the lurid abuse hurled at him by his enemies. Recently, he expressed a desire to smear their faces with asbestos.
The hysteria of the debate between an often secretive scientific establishment and the insurgents who reject its orthodoxies about man’s role in whatever it is that is happening to the planet is trying the patience of voters – and readers of this newspaper – who are confused or angered (or both) by the lectures they get from each side. The healthy scepticism that should be at the root of any scientific debate is being replaced by a corrosive contempt for scientists and governments.

Audacious Environmental Hypocrisy: James Cameron – Grow Up
by Ann McElhinney, BH:
I thought Avatar was a great film, beautiful even. Cameron is such a good story teller he even had me rooting for the blue rain forest people and wishing death on all the appalling Americans in final battle scene.
But seriously, James Cameron grow up.
Avatar is an anti-mining, anti resource development rant worthy of a not very clever spotty undergraduate.
James Cameron is a self confessed unrepentant greenie, and in the world he creates mining is evil and life in the rain forest is just spiffing. So lets throw a few facts in the way of Cameron’s gorgeous but idiotic narrative.
Mining makes everything about James Cameron’s life and our lives in the developed world, beautiful, possible, bearable, majestic, gorgeous and full of promise. The people of the rain forest on the other hand who live the simple, organic, back to nature life so adored by the Hollywood elite such as James Cameron, also have short lives of misery, disease and squalor. They would do anything to have a piece of the James Cameron life and escape their subsistence hunter-gathering nightmare.

Arrest Warrant Issued for Lisa Miller in Vermont
LifeSiteNews.com:
A Vermont judge has issued an arrest warrant for Lisa Miller for failing to transfer custody of her daughter to her former lesbian partner.
Miller, an ex-lesbian who has returned to her childhood faith in Jesus Christ, has been ordered to give up her daughter to her former partner Janet Jenkins, whom she says she left after years of abuse.
After years of legal struggles to prevent unauthorized visits of her daughter, Isabella, with Jenkins, Miller severed contact with her attorneys and disappeared in November of last year.
Jenkins has no relation to Miller’s daughter Isabella, 7, who was conceived by artificial insemination while Jenkins and Miller were in a Vermont civil union.
Jenkins has repeatedly requested jail time for Miller, who has resisted the unsupervised visitation dates decreed by Vermont Judge Richard Cohen.
A judge in Bedford County Virginia last week refused to issue an arrest warrant for Miller, due to the fact that she had not been legally subpoenaed.

The revolving-door between journalism and the Democratic party
BY Philip Terzian, WEEKLY STANDARD:
The next time you encounter a learned discussion of ‘the liberal media’ — which usually features stalwart denials of political bias, combined with pious invocations of professional standards — consider the life and career of James Wieghart, who died this week at the age of 76. Mr Wieghart’s tenure in journalism was, by any measure, successful, star-studded–and emblematic of the problem of bias in American journalism.

More Than a Hero
by Robert Spencer, FrontPage:
I said it at the Geert Wilders event at CPAC 2009, and it is still an accurate observation: we live in such a cheap and tawdry age that all one needs to do to be a hero is tell the truth — and yet there are so few heroes.
That is indeed the case, and it means that Chris Gaubatz is something much greater than a hero. In our day when cowardice positively defines our political and media elites, Chris Gaubatz put his life on the line for the defense of free people and free societies against the global jihad and Islamic supremacism.

Can This Possibly Be True? New Obama Missile Defense Logo Includes A Crescent
by Frank Gaffney, BG:
The Obama administration’s determined effort to reduce America’s missile defense capabilities initially seemed to be just standard Leftist fare — of a piece with the Democratic base’s visceral hostility to the idea of protecting us against ballistic missile threats. A just-unveiled symbolic action suggests, however, that something even more nefarious is afoot.

Asking the Right Questions about the Evolutionary Origin of New Biological Information
ENV:
As we’ve seen, it’s easy to duplicate a gene, but the key missing ingredient in many neo-Darwinian explanations of the origin of new genetic information is how a gene duplicate then acquires some new optimized function. Evolutionists have not demonstrated, except in rare cases, that step-wise paths to new function for duplicate genes exist.

Orissa, “there is no justice for Christians”
AsiaNews:
“Christians in the district of Kandhamal are still the innocent victims of intimidation and violence. The government does nothing to help their rehabilitation, after the religious violence in 2008, and they continue to live in fear. On the other hand, the thousands of complaints filed against assailants have served no purpose: the perpetrators of the massacre still roam freely across the State of Orissa”.
This is the charge of President of the Global Council of Indian Christians, Sajan K George, who has been following the situation of persecuted Christians in India for years. The Council, which unites Catholics and Protestants, provides legal and material aid to the population affected by persecution.

Right and Left upside down: Geert Wilders and the Tea Party Movement
Roger L Simon:
Over the decades I was a Leftist, I lived under the evidently misguided belief that my side was for freedom and democracy and the other was rigid, old farts willing to do anything to preserve the ancien régime.
Well, nowhere have I been proven more wrong than Holland where the history of the last decade – from the 2002 assassination of Pim Fortuyn to the 2005 murder of Theo Van Gogh to the current controversy surrounding the trial (and political candidacy) of Geert Wilders – makes clear the we indeed live in a world upside down.
As a reminder, Wilders is the Dutch politician now on trial for “hate-speech” in the Netherlands. Among other things he has produced the film Fitna, accusing Islam of being a violent ideology, and called for the banning of the Koran in Holland in similar manner to the banning of Mein Kampf in that country. Many leftist, multi-culturalists have come down heavily on Wilders for this but the Netherlands is a complicated place and others see Wilders as a paragon of free speech and honesty. Needless to say, Wilders’ positions are defensible, even if his methods may have been excessive to our eyes.

The “Peace Partners” Who Never Were
by Joe Kaufman, FrontPage:
On February 14th, all of the major Palestinian terrorist factions met at the offices of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) for peace talks. But this was not about peace with the Israelis. No, this was a meeting to reconcile differences, in order to direct all energies in a violent manner against Israel. While the West has been obsessed with locating a “peace partner” for the Jewish state, none would be found here.
The Palestinian people, for the most part, can be divided into two camps: one, a religious terrorist camp and two, a secular/nationalist terrorist camp. Members of Palestinian society usually side with one or the other, whether it’s through politics, community affairs or violence. There is little grey area, in this respect.

Governor’s aide: National Security meeting “surreal”
By Doug Hagmann:
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and John Brennan, Barack Hussein Obama’s Deputy National Security Adviser for Homeland Security and Counterterrorism, spoke at the National Governors Association’s Special Committee on Homeland Security and Public Safety in Washington last Sunday. A close aide to one of the longtime governors in attendance, who was present for much of this meeting, spoke to this investigator about the oddities that she noted at this event, asking that her name not be used due to the sensitivity of her job.

Moscow Show Trials Redux
The View From 1776:
Obama’s shameful campaign to criminalize officials in the Bush administration is reminiscent of Stalin’s purges of his opponents in 1936-38.
Through the office of Attorney General Eric Holder, President Obama actively supported a witch-hunt aimed at destroying the careers of Bush administration attorneys who provided legal advice about the limits upon interrogating captured Islamic terrorists. Hating President Bush wasn’t enough. It was necessary figuratively to spill some blood.
Between 1936 and 1938 Stalin staged public trials of of Soviet military and political leaders whom he regarded as rivals. All of the trials resulted in convictions and executions for alleged treason.
American liberal-progressives at the time applauded the show trials as necessary to stop opposition to socialistic progress toward perfection of human nature and political society. In fact, liberal-progressives continued to defend the trials until after the fall of the Soviet Union and revelation of KGB documents.
The common good, an abstraction called “humanity,” as defined by Stalin or American intellectuals, always trumps individual rights.

ACORN Official: Gangster Group Will Be Bankrupt Soon But Fake Spinoff Groups Will Carry On The Corruption
by Matthew Vadum, BG:
The ACORN crime syndicate is not going away anytime soon, but it’s going to look different.
ACORN will probably run out of money and fold by year’s end but a dozen ACORN state chapters reincorporated to seem like new, independent organizations will spring up in the next week to carry on ACORN’s business, a leaked email from ACORN’s online director suggests.
“The truth is that it is hard for us to forsee [sic] any scenario where ACORN continues beyond the end of 2010 and some of us think it might not last that long,” writes Nathan Henderson-James, director of ACORN’s online campaigns, in an apparently authentic Feb. 22 email.
“Last one to leave turn out the lights and wipe the server,” he writes at the end of the message.
In the email Henderson-James explains the subterfuge ACORN will use to lead Americans to believe ACORN is breaking apart.
“It is definitely true that over the next week or so we should see a dozen or more organizations launched on the state level by staff who used to work for ACORN and leaders who developed their skills as ACORN members. These are not just simple name changes, but reimaginings of how best to organize low and moderate income constitiuencies [sic] without any of the legal problems and funding issues dogging ACORN, not to mention the brand damage.”
It is a “tactically smart…reaction to the global situation that helps the work of building power for poor people to continue,” writes Henderson-James, an ACORN employee since 1997.
The Saul Alinsky-inspired public relations hocus-pocus described by Henderson-James is consistent with earlier reports that ACORN is trying to pass off various state chapters as “new” groups.

CPAC Didn’t Get It!
By Lee Duigon:
From Our Writers:
If last week’s annual CPAC convention is the best America can do by way of conservatism, there is no meaningful conservatism in America.
Addressing a rather more important gathering, the Constitutional Convention, Benjamin Franklin said:
“I have lived, sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth: that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid? We have been assured, sir, in the Sacred Writings that ‘except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it.’ [Psalm 127:1] I firmly believe this, and I also believe that without His concurring aid we shall succeed in this political building no better than the builder of Babel.”
But Franklin wasn’t at CPAC, and there was no one there to call for prayer. The whole assembly of 10,000 self-professed conservatives missed the opportunity to fall on their knees and pray. The Bible tells us how:
“If my people… shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear them from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
But there was no humility at CPAC, no communal prayer, no repentance. Aside from a brilliant and passionate speech by Glenn Beck at the end of the festivities, there was nothing to CPAC but Republican business as usual–same old names, same old faces, same old spineless, heartless quest for power for its own sake. And they wouldn’t know what to do with that power if they got it.
Where have conservatives been for 60 years? What in the world have they succeeded in conserving?

Israel’s Fleet Street enemies
Tom Gross, NP:
We all know that journalists (including some at highly-regarded newspapers) often makes things up, but rarely have we witnessed such a mix of misinformation, disinformation and innuendo passed off as fact, as we have in recent days in the reports dealing with the death of Hamas terrorist Mahmoud Mabhouh. (Some of this admittedly can be attributed to the complete failure of the Israeli government – whether or not Israel had anything to do with the matter – to provide an effective response to the media.)
For example, the story in the (London) Sunday Telegraph that British immigrants to Israel had their passports removed and copied at passport control at Tel Aviv airport, is highly implausible. Passports are not taken from immigrants at Tel Aviv airport. This has never been the practice. I have checked with several recent immigrants and they have confirmed that this is not so.
The Telegraph story, written by a London-based correspondent, has all the signs of being planted by anti-Israel elements at the British Foreign Office (of which there are many – witness, for example, the reinstatement last year of Rowan Laxton, a high-ranking diplomat and “Middle East expert” at the British Foreign Office, even after a London court had found him guilty of racially aggravated harassment for saying “F**king Israelis, F**king Jews… they should be wiped off the face of the earth” in a crowded London gym).
