Navy SEALs Charged Over Alleged Abuse of Terrorist Mastermind

by Stephen Brown, FrontPage:

It makes one wonder how the West is ever going to win the war against radical Islam.

Fox News reported yesterday that three navy SEALs have been charged for allegedly abusing a terrorist leader they had captured in Iraq last September.

The SEALs’ long-sought target, Ahmed Hashim Abed, is believed to have been the mastermind behind one of the most infamous incidents of the Iraq war: the murder and mutilation of four Blackwater security personnel in Fallujah in 2004. The four men were attacked when transporting supplies and had their bodies burned and dragged through the streets. Two of the corpses were then hung from a Euphrates River bridge.

Abed, the alleged planner of this barbarism, claims the navy’s elite commandos had punched him after his capture and that “he had the bloody lip to prove it.”

Over 150,000 Sign Manhattan Declaration in Less than a Week

November 26, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The unprecedented pro-life, pro-marriage and pro-religious freedom Manhattan Declaration, unveiled in a press conference last Friday, has already been signed by over 150,000 individuals in less than a week, and the numbers are continuing to rise by the second.

The 4,700-word “Manhattan Declaration: A Call of Christian Conscience” was drafted by Dr. Robert George, Dr. Timothy George and Chuck Colson. At the time of its release last week it was signed by more than 125 prominent religious figures, including figures from Orthodox, Catholic and evangelical Christian denominations. That number has now risen to over 170, including 18 Roman Catholic bishops, in addition to the 150,000 ordinary Christians.[...]

The impression left by the Climategate emails is that the global warming game has been rigged from the start

WSJ:

The climatologists at the center of last week’s leaked-email and document scandal have taken the line that it is all much ado about nothing. Yes, the wording of the some of their messages was unfortunate, but they insist this in no way undermines the underlying science, which is as certain as ever.

“What they’ve done is search through stolen personal emails—confidential between colleagues who often speak in a language they understand and is often foreign to the outside world,” Penn State’s Michael Mann told Reuters Wednesday. Mr. Mann added that this has made “something innocent into something nefarious.”

New U.K. Bill Requires Homeschooled Children be Registered with Authorities

LifeSiteNews.com:

The British government announced last week their acceptance of the Badman Review of home education and introduced the new Children, Schools and Families Bill that will require home educated children to be registered with the local authorities.

Undertaken by Graham Badman, the former Director of Children’s Services at Kent County Council, the review of home education has been denounced by homeschoolers as a “stitch-up” and a “statist” piece of government propaganda.

Annette Taberner of the homeschool support organisation Education Otherwise, who met twice with Graham Badman during the course of the review, said, “In a rapidly changing world, government could learn much from the good practice of home educators – instead it has decided to bring forward legislation that will stamp it out.”

Homeschooling families were furious at the review’s results and say the new bill will mean the effective end of the rights of the family in education. The bill will follow recommendations that homeschooling families be subjected to spot-checks by local authorities, and that authorities can interview homeschooled children without the presence of their parents.

Taberner said, “To suggest parents can continue to home educate but then give powers to local authorities to enter our homes and interview our children without an adult being present is just extraordinary. This is nothing short of an attempt to regulate the private lives of people.

“It is a very bad day for civil liberties in this country.”

Why does so much of the world hate us?

Isi Leibler, THE JERUSALEM POST:

The question is particularly valid in relation to Europe, which has turned so dramatically against us. When analyzing the changed attitudes of many European countries, one must take into account their redefinition of themselves as “enlightened” post-modernist secular societies which shun all manifestations of nationalism. In this configuration Israel is no longer considered a revival of Jewish nationhood, but as a colonial implant which many would be happy to see somehow disappear as a national entity.

And of course, there is the new anti-Semitism in which demonization of Israel has become the surrogate for traditional Jew-hatred. Just as the Jews in the Middle Ages were accused of all the ills of mankind, so today the Jewish state is increasingly being held responsible for the principal woes facing humanity.

In this environment, the Left and many liberals now focus their revolutionary fervor and rage against Israel, and have succeeded in hijacking human rights groups to serve as vehicles to undermine us.

IN THE international arena, the automatic majority of Islamic and other radical states guarantees the passage of all anti-Israeli resolutions initiated at international organizations such as the United Nations, no matter how absurd.

Eco R.I.C.O.-Science

ENV:

Eco-science has a checkered past. And, we are learning, a checkered present. In what is shaping up as one of the biggest science scandals in modern times, hackers have obtained thousands of e-mails, computer codes, and data sets from climate scientists at the Climate Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia in England. The CRU is one of the world’s leading climate research institutions; its scientists play central roles in the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The e-mails involve conversations between CRU scientists and scientists from all over the world who support the theory of man-made global warming. The content of the e-mails is astonishing.

[...]

Just as disturbing as the smoking-gun evidence for scientific misconduct and fraud is the apparent absence of dissent from these practices by any of the scientists involved in these e-mail correspondences. This misconduct and even criminal behavior seems to be accepted without question, as an intrinsic part of climate science. It would be naive to believe that this misconduct involves only one field of science. In what other areas of science are fraud and scientific misconduct an accepted part of the culture?

The CRU e-mails reveal that many of the leading pro-global warming ‘scientists’ aren’t really a collaborative of professional scientists searching for the truth about the climate; they’re an international crime syndicate.

At least one answer to that question is perfectly obvious: Evolutionary theory.

Why ‘climategate’ won’t stop greens

By LORRIE GOLDSTEIN:

If you’re wondering how the robot-like march of the world’s politicians towards Copenhagen can possibly continue in the face of the scientific scandal dubbed “climategate,” it’s because Big Government, Big Business and Big Green don’t give a s*** about “the science.”

They never have.

What “climategate” suggests is many of the world’s leading climate scientists didn’t either. Apparently they stifled their own doubts about recent global cooling not explained by their computer models, manipulated data, plotted ways to avoid releasing it under freedom of information laws and attacked fellow scientists and scientific journals for publishing even peer-reviewed literature of which they did not approve.

Now they and their media shills — who sneered that all who questioned their phony “consensus” were despicable “deniers,” the moral equivalent of those who deny the Holocaust — are the ones in denial about the enormity of the scandal enveloping them.

So they desperately try to portray it as the routine “messy” business of science, lamely insisting, “nothing to see here folks, move along.”

Understanding Our Hollow Centrists

By Joe Conason:

The puzzling thing about politicians of either party who claim to be “centrist” or “moderate” is how much they sometimes sound like party-line right-wing Republicans. Distinguishing among these species of politicians can be almost impossible during the current struggle over health care reform, especially when a senator like Blanche Lambert Lincoln of Arkansas tries to explain herself.

Like so many of the Republicans they try to emulate, the conservative Democrats claim to worry about spending and deficits — except with respect to programs that benefit them, their favorite constituents or the lobbyists who pay their campaign expenses.

We Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet

By Victor Davis Hanson:

When it comes to the problems facing this country, an old slogan comes to mind: “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet.”

High unemployment, the recession and a terrorist resurgence in Afghanistan are bad enough. But there are a number of problems on the horizon that could dwarf President Obama’s first-year trials.

Why the pessimism? In short, we are doing nothing to prepare for the crises to come.

A global recession has led to low oil prices. Yet in this window of opportunity, America has not decreased its foreign-oil dependence. We are not encouraging domestic exploration. And we are still ambivalent on nuclear power.

Anti-Israel campaign finds a new villain to molest

Jonathon Narvey, NP:

Once again, a targeted economic boycott against Israeli goods is directed against a Canadian business. This time, it’s Mountain Equipment Co-op (well, this is actually the second time for MEC). Protesters are expected to picket MEC stores on November 28, presumably bearing Palestinian flags, kaffia scarves and literature excoriating the Jewish state. Will these boycotts remain confined to the fringe? The more interesting question is whether the counter-efforts will be embraced by a wider population in solidarity with a democracy — not to mention, those who support a peaceful and prosperous Palestine.

The protesters’ financial impact will hopefully be more than neutralized by the Israel-supporters’ BUYcott events (such as the one taking place at an MEC in Vancouver on Nov. 29), which has had some notable successes. On those occasions, protesters act as magnets for those with opposite aims, who come to buy out the entire stock of Israeli products. This may happen again in MEC’s case, as memberships and Israeli-made water bottles and bras fly off the shelves.

Not a refugee

Calgary Herald:

Pte. Bethany Smith’s claim for refugee status in Canada should be denied, and she should be deported back to the U.S. to face a court martial for desertion.

Smith, who says she’s a lesbian, deserted from the U.S. army after her sexual orientation was outed when a fellow soldier saw her holding hands with a woman. This week, the Federal Court ordered the Immigration and Refugee Board to re-examine Smith’s case after the board turned her down.

Smith’s story does not match up with U.S. military policy on homosexuality. While the U.S. maintains a “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy toward gays in the armed forces, gays and lesbians can obtain a discharge from the service if they are outed.

Alberta’s deficit shrinks by $2.6 billion

Calgary Herald:

Stronger investment income, oil royalties and corporate income tax revenues have buoyed the Alberta government’s economic picture, reducing the province’s projected deficit to $4.3 billion.

In its fiscal update in August, the government forecasted the 2009-10 shortfall to rise to $6.9 billion from its initial budget projection of a $4.7-billion deficit.

The improved outlook, however, won’t change government plans to cut roughly $2 billion from next year’s budget. The province has already trimmed $430 million from the books this year, attributing savings to hiring freezes and reduced spending on travel, organzining conferences and hiring consultants.

However, a detailed list of the cuts wasn’t immediately available Thursday.

Senator Conrad’s insulting defense of trying KSM in New York

David Jeffers, AT:

Democrat Senator from North Dakota, Kent Conrad, while defending the Obama Administration’s decision to try al Qaeda terrorists in civilian courts, said:

“If people don’t believe in our system, maybe they ought to go somewhere else.”

Really Senator Conrad? Would you like to retract that statement?

I am a Gold-Star Father, meaning my son Sergeant Eddie Jeffers was killed in Iraq. I am opposed to terrorists being tried in civilian courts. Did I mention that I am a 22 year Army veteran? Is it okay with you if invoke my free speech rights?
