The Race Against Nothing

By Rob Smith, AT:

We have busied ourselves in a race between technology and nothing. Huge amounts of money and effort are being spent to develop an approach to address the hoax that is man-induced global warming, arguably the definition of nothing. While much of the world struggles with even the basics for life, sufficient food, shelter, clean water, and basic disease prevention, the “developed” world tilts at the windmill of nothingness.

Bigotry unchallenged

Tarek Fatah, NP:

Oh Allah destroy them from within…”

With an air of triumphalism, finger-waving cleric Said Rageah harkened his Toronto flock: “We have to establish Islam [in Canada]. I wanna see Islam in every single corner of the city; I would like to see niqabis, and hijabis [women wearing face masks and head covering] everywhere in the city. I want to see ‘brothers’ [Muslim men] in beards everywhere in the city. Because when they see more of us, they will have more respect for us. They will say, ‘look they are everywhere…we cannot go against them’.”

The Somali-born Saudi-trained cleric was taunting his congregation for what he said was their impotence in face of a call by the Muslim Canadian Congress to disallow any public dealings with any person wearing a facemask.

Urging his congregation to take ‘action’, the imam said: “Please brothers and sisters, please. Do not just sit 30 minutes listening to a khutba [sermon] and not do anything about it. Please take a stand. Take action against this.” He then switched to Arabic to invoke a verse that has been used by Islamists and radical jihadis to intimidate and silence opponents.

“Aamr bi alma ‘ruf wa nahi ‘an almunkar” [enjoin good and forbid evil].

Canadian arrested in Danish newspaper plot

Stewart Bell, National Post:

The FBI has arrested a Canadian for his role in an alleged terrorist plot against the Danish newspaper that published the controversial Muhamad cartoons.

Tahawwur Hussain Rana, 48, owner of First World Immigration Services, was charged with aiding a conspiracy to attack the Jyllands-Posten in Copenhagen.

In an indictment unsealed this morning, the U.S. Justice Department said Mr. Rana had worked with David Coleman Headley and three Pakistani terrorists to organize the attack.

Mr. Rana, a Canadian citizen born in Pakistan, has been living in Chicago, where he operates an immigration firm and grocery store. He also owns a halal meat business in Kinsman, Ill., that was raided by FBI agents last week.

The Volunteerism Scandals Hollywood Won’t Be Broadcasting

Michelle Malkin, FrontPage:

Hollywood hearts Obama. Obama hearts government-directed national service. That is why you won’t be able to change the TV channel all week without getting lectured about the need to get off the couch and Do Something. (After your favorite shows are over, of course.) Creeped out? You should be.

The entertainment industry, inspired by Obama’s $6 billion expansion of government volunteerism spending, is coordinating plot lines and ads to push public service. “The message will be nearly ubiquitous,” reports the Los Angeles Times, “starting in the morning with programs such as ‘Today’ and ‘The View,’ and then echoed on soap operas, prime-time series and late-night shows.” First lady Michelle Obama, a relentless AmeriCorps promoter who publicly extolled the Tinseltown initiative last month, will cap off the week with an appearance on “The Jay Leno Show” on Friday.

But don’t expect Leno to ask Mrs. Obama about her reported meddling in personnel decisions at the scandal-plagued AmeriCorps. Or about the program’s long history as a government boondoggle stuffed with make-work jobs, permanent bureaucracies, left-wing slush funds and partisan lobbyists. More on that in a moment.

Anita Dunn, Were You Also Joking About Mother Teresa?

Jamie Glazov, FrontPage;

So President Obama’s White House communications director, Anita Dunn, is off the hook just like that? She praises Mao Zedong, the greatest mass murderer in history, and when confronted on it says she was joking and that’s it. Why is that just it? Would it be just it if any politician or any person in a responsible position out there verbalized an admiration for Adolf Hitler?

The key issue here is that Dunn was clearly not joking.

Hold On, Big Labor

Ben Johnson, FrontPage:

As the Left barrels forward with its agenda to remake the United States, Sen. John McCain has interrupted President Obama’s latest payoff to the Shadow Party. McCain announced Wednesday he would place a hold on Obama’s appointment of Craig Becker to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). Becker is a longtime lawyer for the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which donated $27.8 million to Obama’s 2008 campaign. McCain described Becker as “probably the most controversial nominee that I have seen in a long time” – and that from an administration that has nominated John Holdren, Van Jones, and Carol Browner. Becker has never justified compulsory abortion, blamed a natural disaster on President Bush, or joined an international socialist organization. But he has written that “workers should not be able to choose against having a union”; that employers should have no right to contest fraudulent union elections; and that the NLRB could implement certain portions of Big Labor’s card check proposal even without Congressional approval. Becker took as his own the words of Robert Hoxie, that “unions are ‘formed to escape the evils of individualism.’” And, through a Chicagoland chapter of SEIU, Becker has ties to ACORN and Rod Blagojevich that demand probing.

Prepare for the next war

Asaf Gefen, YNET:

For Israel’s leadership and public, the Goldstone Report is reminiscent of the local summer: Every time you think it’s over, it appears for yet another round that is more tiring and bothersome than the previous one.

Last week, exhausted and sweaty in the wake of the previous rounds, we saw some members of our political establishment capitulate and decide that we’ve repressed enough and that the time has come for a “commission of inquiry.”

On the other hand, Defense Minister Ehud Barak argues that Israel must not abandon its soldiers, yet it’s unclear whether he refers to the commanders who fought in Gaza, or to those who slept in Paris for $2,500 a night.

The Goldstone Report has caused Israel such shame not only because it dared present us as a Goliath, rather than the world’s miserable victims, but mostly because of the Israeli feeling that the report – and the whole world in fact – is trying to snatch our glorious victory in Gaza.

That self-censored Yale book about the Danish cartoons

Ezra Levant:

The Globe and Mail was kind enough to ask me to review Jytte Klausen’s book, “The Cartoons that Shook the World”. It was an informative book, but laced with the author’s own dhimmitude. The fact that Klausen’s publisher, Yale University Press, pre-emptively decided not to reprint the cartoons in a book about the cartoons, shows that her submissiveness is becoming the norm in Western liberal academia, not the exception.

You can read my review here. Here is an excerpt:

Israel and the UN Kangaroo Court

Gregg Rickman, Cutting Edge:

Last week’s consideration of the one-sided Goldstone Report has once again shown the fecklessness and bias of the Human Rights Council. Israel’s indictment by that body should come as no surprise to anyone who knows the UN. Israel simply cannot receive a fair hearing for any accusations placed against it there. As such, the Human Rights Council, and to be more accurate, the entire UN system is rigged against Israel making the process a kangaroo court.

In June 2008, while decrying the US refusal to continue its engagement with the Human Rights Council, Human Rights Watch, could not avoid pointing out these important facts about the Council explaining, “In its first two years, however, the Human Rights Council has failed to address more than 20 human rights situations that require its attention, eliminated human rights monitoring in places desperately in need of such scrutiny, and adopted a long stream of one-sided resolutions on Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories which failed to consider the roles and responsibilities of the Palestinian authorities and armed groups.”

Carbon Sequestration: How Environmentalists Boost Oil Company Profits

By Dr. Tim Ball, CFP:

Environmentalism as practiced by extremists is a blind faith. Their demands for action to deal with non-existent problems create bizarre situations. They ignore science, logic and facts to identify problems so there are often unintended consequences. One involves the environmentalist’s obsession with CO2 and the oil industry. They’re the enemy who produce the energy that drives the engines of capitalism and CO2 supposedly destroying the planet.

IPCC computer models are the only places where CO2 is causing warming or climate change. Actually, human production is miniscule relative to natural amounts. If everybody left the planet except one person who remained to measure changes in CO2 level she would detect no difference. CO2 is essential to plants that use it to grow and produce oxygen to support all other life. Plants grow much more efficiently at levels four and five times higher than current levels. There is no need to reduce the level and significant increases are beneficial to all life.

Environmentalism is a necessary new paradigm and we’re all environmentalists because we realize we must live within the physical constraints of our planet. However, a few with a political agenda claim the title of environmentalist for themselves. From the moral high ground of the new religion they try to convince the world that only they care. Only they can save the planet. Obsession with this objective has created an opportunity for despised oil companies to increase profits and improve the corporate image yet with possible harmful effects to the planet. If you create false problems you’re obliged to find unnecessary and usually false solutions.

When law professors believe Naomi Klein

Hillel Neuer, UN Watch:

Last month’s Harper’s magazine published a revisionist history by Naomi Klein of the 2001 Durban conference and its 2009 would-be sequel, Durban II. My contemporary and fellow Jewish Montrealer told a great story — except that it was entirely fictional, a figment of her rabidly anti-Western and anti-Israel imagination.

For reasons having to do with either the fact that no one reads Harper’s any more, or Naomi Klein’s reputation for making things up, her essay went almost completely ignored, apart from the usual fringe blogs on the extreme left.

Consequently, I didn’t see the need in doing more to correct the historical record than publishing this op-ed, pointing out a few of her article’s numerous distortions – little things like glossing over Col. Qaddafi’s Geneva agent being the organizer of the April 2009 conference — and spotlighting Klein’s three-decade obsession with accusing Jews of being racist, her paranoid ravings about Israel being wicked, depraved and out to get her, and the falsification of a key part of her official biography. (Klein then lashed out, attacking my op-ed as “a wacky stalker article,” but failed to heed admirer Philip Weiss’ request that she explain herself. Turns out the fearless investigative journalist of evil capitalists was outraged that anyone would dare to apply the same scrutiny to her dissembling.)

The Demise of Another Evolutionary Link: Archaeopteryx Falls From Its Perch

ENV:

A few days ago we saw Ida fall from her overhyped status as an ancestor of humans. Now some scientists are claiming that Archaeopteryx should lose its status as an ancestor of modern birds. Calling Archaeopteryx an “icon of evolution,” the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) borrows a term from Jonathan Wells while reporting that “[t]he feathered creature called archaeopteryx, easily the world’s most famous fossil remains, had been considered the first bird since Charles Darwin’s day. When researchers put its celebrity bones under the microscope recently, though, they discovered that this icon of evolution might not have been a bird at all.”

Preparing for Iranian Hegemony in the Middle East

By Gary H. Johnson, Jr., AT:

Newsweek has all but officially become the pulp-based mouthpiece of the Council on Foreign Relations and the Obama administration’s inner sanctum of advisers.

Following the first official U.S. diplomatic effort with Iran on October 1, a few Westerners realized that Iranian hegemony in the Middle East was virtually assured by the Geneva P5 plus 1 sit-down. Iran had proven itself a rational actor on the geopolitical stage by simply passing a letter to the Council on Foreign Relations to be handed to President Obama’s foreign policy team in early September. In that letter, Iran agreed to assume the role of a regional superpower through a process of engagement. The fact that Iran’s new nuclear facility near Qom was not a bombshell in the international community indicated that the world readily accepted Iran’s rejection of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Regime’s rules in defiance of the sanctions it was facing from the international community. In so doing, Iran beat Western leaders to the nuclear punch, agreed to set up token inspections, and set the world on a new axis.

By Bill Warner, AT:

Why don’t Jews and Israel want to deal with propaganda? Simple. It would mean talking about Islam. Jews and Israel must face the facts that the Koran and the Sunna (the actions and words of Mohammed) are filled with invectives against the Jews. At first the words were complimentary, but when the Jews of Medina rejected Mohammed as a prophet they were all enslaved, exiled, murdered and robbed — all acts of jihad. These were not historical acts, but perfect examples of Islamic action towards Jews — models prescribed for Muslims to follow up to the present time. To illustrate the severity of this predicament, statistically speaking, in the Koran of Medina 10.6% of the text is devoted to Jew hatred, whereas, only 6.8% of Mein Kampf is devoted to Jew hatred.

The language and actions of Palestinians and all Muslims in general are directly approved by Islamic political theological doctrine. Not only the language, but also policy is set by the Islamic political doctrine. To repeat: political doctrine — a political theological doctrine of jihad against all kafirs.

Yet, it seems until now that both Jews and Israel choose annihilation over talking about Islam. It is simply not an acceptable subject matter. Political correctness prevails over survival. Unfortunately, these are suicidal choices.

Get ready, America: Great Depression 2.0

WorldNetDaily:

Drawing striking comparisons between the Japanese economy in 1988 and the American economy today, a new book by an author who predicted the current crisis warns it’s going to get much worse before it gets better.

Vox Day, a WND columnist, asserts in “The Return of the Great Depression,” by WND Books, the U.S. is only now entering the early stages of the Second Great Depression.

Day presents a fact-rich case, rooted in economic history and time-tested theory, in which he concludes that an economic contraction of very large proportions is presently developing.

But he contends that “due to a reactive wave of positive social mood, statistical obfuscation, and understandable denial, it will take about a year for the consensus opinion to cycle through the various scenarios in descending order of optimism before the grim reality finally becomes apparent to even the casual observer.”

[...]

Day said the ideal reader of his book is anyone who scratches his head wondering how the Dow Jones Industrial Average could rise 50 percent in six months despite a rapid increase in unemployment, massive loan defaults and declining global production.

“I think anyone who is shocked at the way the politicians of both parties have continued to put the interests of Wall Street ahead of the interests of American homeowners, workers and small businesses is going to get a lot out of it,” he told WND. “I don’t know if those who were burned by the tech and real estate bubbles will necessarily enjoy reading the book and learning how the odds were always stacked against them, but it should help them avoid buying into the next investment charade.”

Backlash Builds Over Obama’s War Against Fox, Chamber of Commerce

NEWSMAX:

President Obama’s decision to employ bare-knuckled Chicago tactics in his street fight with Fox News has provoked a growing backlash from across the political spectrum that, left unchecked, could complicate his larger agenda, experts warn.

With key gubernatorial races looming in Virginia and New Jersey, Obama also risks alienating the all-important independent voters who could prove decisive in those races.

Moderate Democrats have begun speaking out against the administration’s crusade against dissent, now that it has spread beyond conservative media to include the insurance industry and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, among others.

“There’s no reason to gratuitously piss off all those companies,” Rep. Jim Moran, D-Va., told Politico.com Friday. “The Chamber isn’t an opponent.”

Special: New Bull: Warren Buffett Says You Must Read This Book — Click Here Now.

The Chamber of Commerce was drawn into the brawl despite its supported Obama’s stimulus package, and its cash-for-clunkers program. The schism began when it opposed the controversial cap-and-trade legislation that the House passed in June. And when it also opposed the administration’s plan to create a financial protection agency for investors, Obama declared its advertising “completely false.” Top aides then openly questioned whether the Chamber really was still representing the business community.

Come to think of it? Don’t piss me off, either

Kathy Shaidle:

So earlier this week I got cc’d on an email with links to a Geert Wilders’ speech on YouTube.

The person who sent it said, in effect, “This is a must-see! What this man has to say is very important.”

Today one of the CC’s sent this reply:

I had a brief look, and if you are looking for feedback, I think you can safely ignore the man.

As you know, I was [redacted by me, but describes a mid-level position with Amnesty International] spending on average 2- 3 hours a day sifting through human rights reports – that’s a lot of knowledge, probably more than Wilders has.

I think if the threat [of batshit crazy Islam] was real, I would have got wind of it but I didn’t – nothing. Now Wilders might be right, but until I see his documentation and an explanation of how and why AI has it wrong and I’ve been duped over many years of careful study, I won’t be taking the man very seriously and – on the assumption you’re asking for feedback – I’d recommend you do the same.

Hope that helps – [redacted personal information] I’m up to my eyeballs in work so I’m afraid can’t do much better than the above. Shoudn’t you be working on art, anyway?

    :)

So you know I had to respond:

The real climate change catastrophe

By Christopher Booker, Telegraph [UK]:

Next Thursday marks the first anniversary of one of the most remarkable events ever to take place in the House of Commons. For six hours MPs debated what was far and away the most expensive piece of legislation ever put before Parliament.

The Climate Change Bill laid down that, by 2050, the British people must cut their emissions of carbon dioxide by well over 80 per cent. Short of some unimaginable technological revolution, such a target could not possibly be achieved without shutting down almost the whole of our industrialised economy, changing our way of life out of recognition.

Islamocracy

By John Griffing, AT:

The Left, champions of strict separation of church and state, have come out in support of an American theocracy. How can this be? Could this possibly be the same political machine that ritualistically goes from town to town scanning courthouses for explicit references to God, or even worse, the Ten Commandments? Or the establishment telling little Susie she cannot pray at school? Or the organization forbidding the reading of scripture, even on a purely non-sectarian, academic basis? Surely we can’t be talking about the same ideologues.

But there is no mistake. The Left supports theocracy, as long as it is Islamic. The evidence sits all around us: Public school officials train students to ward off fanciful Christian (never Islamic) hostage-takers, but rush to allow Muslim students 15 minutes of class time to pray to Allah.

President Obama publicly advocates the Islamic practice of covering women to alleviate lust, without so much as a whimper from those staunch defenders of women’s rights in the Democratically-controlled Congress.

Rightwing Fascists and Other Fables

By Jon N. Hall, AT:

The political Left has been saying for the longest time: Fascism is an ideology of the right. In January 2008, Jonah Goldberg’s excellent Liberal Fascism debuted, and in it he demonstrated for all time that fascism is most definitely an ideology of the left.

What distinguishes Mr. Goldberg’s book is not that his “secret history” revealed things no one knew, but rather its singular success both in America and abroad as a work of political heresy. That success is due, I think, to the book’s packaging and presentation: From the jarring title to the relentless rolling out of suppressed history to the unsettling conclusions, it’s a most compelling read. (The book is now available in paperback, with a new afterword on Obama.)

Sadly, Goldberg’s authoritative history has not sunk in with the media.

The Slander Network

By J.R. Dunn, AT:

It’s a rare pleasure to see that Going Rogue doing so well ahead of publication. (Even though rescheduling the publishing date delayed my book — but I forgive you, lass). When it appears, there’s little doubt it will go through the roof.

Along with fits from the Olbermanns and Courics of the world, we can look forward to seeing a few myths definitively punctured — the “I can see Russia” story, the shooting wolves from a helicopter narrative, or alternately, the “she can’t shoot a gun” claim. (Really, Levi? After a lifetime of hunting trips with her father? Are you absolutely sure?) Punctured, but not put to rest — because these stories were not designed to be put to rest

The choice of “designed” is deliberate. Sarah Palin was the victim of the most vicious, global, and organized campaign ever carried out against a modern politician.

Obamadrama

By James Lewis, AT:

Don’t be deceived by the honeyed baritone voice and big smile. Bluffs, bully plays, and head fakes are the means by which President Obama tries to get his way. He learned the technique from Saul Alinsky.

The best answer is to use Alinsky against them. We know their rule book, and we can use their rules just as well as they can. The aggressor sets the rules.

Obama constantly uses Alinsky’s principle of head-faking: “Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have.” For Obama, “the enemy” is us, the American people. We have to understand — that’s the way they use the language. Read Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals if you don’t believe it. We are the enemy.

Obama is head-faking us all the time. He is a big bully. He will use Styrofoam Greek columns, speeches in Berlin, ridiculous Nobel PC Prizes, whatever piece of political opera he thinks he can get away with. You have to remember that Obama always starts out acting a part. Any relationship he has to reality is purely coincidental.

Obama offers millions in Muslim technology fund

Breutbart:

The White House Friday highlighted a new multi-million-dollar technology fund for Muslim nations, following a pledge made by President Barack Obama in his landmark speech to the Islamic world.

The White House said the US Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) had issued a call for proposals for the fund, which will provide financing of between 25 and 150 million dollars for selected projects and funds.

The Global Technology and Innovation Fund will “catalyze and facilitate private sector investments” throughout Asia, the Middle East and Africa, the White House said in a statement.

Eligible projects would advance economic opportunity and create jobs in areas like technology, education, telecoms, media, business services and clean technology, the White House said.

OPIC said sample projects could help foster the development of new computer technology or telecommunications businesses, or widen access to broadband Internet services.

Nuclear Expert Killed By 120ft Stairwell Fall

The 47-year-old man died after falling more than 120ft to the bottom of a stairwell. He has not been named.

He worked for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization, an international agency charged with uncovering illicit nuclear tests.

A UN spokesman in the Austrian capital said there were no “suspicious circumstances” surrounding the man’s death.

Police said no other person was believed to have been involved. No suicide note has been found.

Four months ago another UN worker also believed to be British fell from a similar height in the same building, it has been reported.

Allah’s Apostate Cassandra

By Andrew G. Bostom, AT:

A review of Wafa Sultan’s, “A God Who Hates,” St. Martin’s Press, 2009, 256 pp.

On Tuesday, October 13, 2009, an ominous interim decision was reached in the case of 17 year- old Sri Lankan native, and Christian “apostate” from Islam, Rifqa Bary. Rifqa fled her Ohio community — notably, the radicalized mosque she was compelled to attend, which revealed and condemned her apostasy. She sought refuge in Orlando, Florida, when Muhammad Bary, Rifqa’s father threatened to murder the young Muslim woman apostate-the consensus draconian punishment for “unrepentant” apostasy from Islam sanctioned by all major schools of Islamic jurisprudence, Sunni and Shiite alike, to this day. (For irrefragable examples, see these contemporary Sunni rulings by Al Azhar University, in Cairo, Egypt, the Mufti of Lebanon, and IslamonLine [here; here], website of the mainstream, immensely popular Muslim Brotherhood cleric, and Al Jazeera personality Yusuf al-Qaradawi, as well as this Shiite legal opinion published in Kayhan International, an official organ of the Islamic Republic of Iran).

Pending determination of her parent’s immigration status-extant public access documentary evidence revealed by investigative journalist par excellence Pamela Geller indicates they are illegal aliens-Florida judge Daniel Dawson has ordered that Rifqa Bary be returned to Ohio under the jurisdiction of an Ohio court.

It is a bitter irony that Tuesday, October 13, 2009 also marked the US release of Syrian-born psychiatrist Wafa Sultan’s book “A God Who Hates”…

Obama a tough guy, at least with Fox News

Mark Steyn:

Benjamin Disraeli’s most famous advice to aspiring politicians was: “Never complain and never explain.” For the greatest orator of our time, a man who makes Churchill, Lincoln and Henry V at Agincourt look like first-round rejects on “Orating With The Stars,” Barack Obama seems to have pretty much given up on the explaining side. He tried it with health care with speech after speech after exclusive interview for months on end, and the more he explained the more unpopular the whole racket got. So he declared that the time for explaining is over, and it’s time to sign on or else.

Meanwhile, to take the other half of the Disraeli equation, Obama and his officials and their beleaguered band of surrogates never stop complaining. If you express concerns about government health care, they complain about all these “racists” and “domestic terrorists” obstructing his agenda. If you wonder why the president can’t seem to find time in his hectic schedule of international awards acceptance speeches to make a decision about Afghanistan, they complain that it’s not his fault he “inherited” all these problems. And, if you wonder why his “green jobs” czar is a communist 9/11 truther, and his National Endowment for the Arts guy is leaning on grant recipients to produce Soviet-style propaganda extolling Obama policies, they complain about Fox News.
