HPV Vaccine Facts All Parents Need to Know
By Janice Shaw Crouse, AT:
I sat at a picnic table listening to various mothers discussing their hectic schedules trying to keep up with teenage daughters, all on the same sports team. When one mother told of squeezing in an appointment that morning to get her daughter the HPV shot that her doctor recommended, the conversation turned to the necessity to “protect” their girls in such troubling times. I stayed quiet, hoping to learn the values guiding these parents’ decisions. Predictably, they had not thought through the issues, nor did they know the facts. Those mothers were merely following doctors’ recommendations and that of all the experts.

Obama, Ginsburg, and the Ghost of Margaret Sanger
By Miguel A. Guanipa, AT:
From what surely must vie for the title of “Dingiest Gorge in Hell”, the perdition bound soul of Margaret Sanger, posthumous Queen of the radical feminist movement, was unbeknownst summoned — and just as quickly retired to the infernal pit where it likely makes its eternal home — by a very artless and candid response from Supreme Court Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg, during a recent, hardly publicized, New York Times Magazine interview.Billed as a serious enquiry into the psyche of the esteemed judge, the interchange consisted primarily of a whole lot of tedious bewailing the female gene’s perennial struggle against the oppressive, sexist culture that ostensibly permeates even moderately influential power structures in this country. At times, exposing this presumed, deep-seated, patriarchal impulse of the male species appeared to be the sole objective of the interview.
And then, suddenly, and most unexpectedly, Mrs. Ginsburg yielded a rather frank assessment of the Pro-choice movement’s little known history of eugenics.

Undermining Democracy in the Name of Human Rights

Shakedown: How Our Government is Undermining Democracy in the Name of Human Rights
By Ezra LevantMcClelland & Stewart
232 pp., $25.95When in September 2005, the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten published 12 editorial cartoons, most depicting the Muslim prophet Mohammed, Muslims worldwide reacted with protests and violence that lead to the death of over 100 people and the destruction of three Danish foreign embassies. Danish Prime Minister Rasmussen described the cartoon riots as Denmark’s worst international crisis since World War II. Much debate ensued as to whether the depictions of Mohammed were legitimate expressions of free speech characteristic of Western criticism of all religions or, if in fact, the cartoons were blasphemous and evidence of rampant Islamophobia.
By February of 2006, the cartoons and their aftermath had become a major news story and a worldwide controversy. Although the story of the riots was widely covered by the Western media, few in print and broadcast media actually displayed the offending cartoons. Bristling at the idea of self-censorship and refusing to pander to political correctness, Ezra Levant, a lawyer and publisher of Western Standard magazine — based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada — made what appeared to be a logical journalistic decision to publish the story with the accompanying cartoons. He felt strongly that this newsworthy story warranted showing the source of the chaos.
Levant’s single action of journalistic prerogative led to his battle of a lifetime over his own right to free expression and freedom from prosecution for exercising it.

The Real Agenda: Dimona
By Moshe Dann, 5 Towns Jewish Times:
Obama’s emphasis on a commitment to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty is a direct threat to Israel’s security. Israel has refused to agree to that treaty because it means opening all of its facilities to inspection—including its top-secret plant in Dimona. Aware of Israel’s longstanding policy in this matter, Obama shifts the attack.
By linking support for Israel against Iran with a halt to all settlement building, and establishing a second Arab Palestinian state, Obama has set the stage for his big prize: Dimona.
Aware that no Israeli government can agree to a complete freeze in building, Obama can blame Israel for American inaction against Iran and lack of support for its war in Afghanistan. It’s a perfect excuse: “Israel didn’t do enough; it’s Israel’s fault.”
“Israeli intransigence” will be given as the reason for America’s failure. “If only Israel had evacuated more settlements, stopped building, dismantled more checkpoints, given more aid to Hamas, stopped demolishing illegal Arab buildings, etc., we could have done something,” Obama will say.
But Obama’s real agenda is not settlements; it is Israel’s nuclear capacity.
[...]
Obama’s speech is an ominous warning of what he is prepared to do in order to strip Israel of its military advantage. Along with the loss of control over Judea and Samaria, territories that are vital for Israel’s security and access to water reserves, faced with Arab terrorist militias backed by Arab armies, Israel will be completely vulnerable. The face of this jihad is not one of ranting, bearded clerics, but of smooth-talking, clean-shaven smiling apostles of peace, and the Philosopher-King of Hope.
Should his health proposals fail then his one chance to salvage his presidency will be a ME peace agreement. Israel will be the sacrificial lamb.
Blame Buffet
Lorne Gunter, National Post:
In his piece in the Times, Mr. Buffett goes out of his way to blame current federal overspending on efforts made “last fall” to avoid a Depressionlike run on banks and other financial institutions.
Why “last fall”? Because back then, George Bush was still president.
And why stick president Bush with blame for the ballooning U. S. debt? Because Mr. Buffett is a key economic advisor to current President Barrack Obama. Indeed, he is so close to Obama that some within the Obama camp have credited Mr. Buffett’s endorsement of candidate Obama last summer with giving the former Illinois senator the credibility he lacked on economic issues.

Netanyahu’s perilous statecraft
Caroline Glick, THE JERUSALEM POST:
Unfortunately, far from treating Israel better as a result of Netanyahu’s willingness to capitulate on the fundamental right of Jews to live and build homes in the land of Israel, the Obama administration is planning to pocket Israel’s concession and then up the ante. Administration officials have stated that their next move will be to set a date for a new international Middle East peace conference that Obama will chair. There, Israel will be isolated and relentlessly attacked as the US, the Arabs, the Europeans, the UN and the Russians all gang up on our representatives and demand that Israel accept the so-called “Arab peace plan.”
That deceptively named plan, which Obama has all but adopted as his own, involves Israel committing national suicide in exchange for nothing. The Arab plan – formerly the “Saudi Plan,” and before that, the Tom Friedman “stick it to Israel ‘peace’ plan” – calls for Israel to retreat to the indefensible 1949 armistice lines and expel hundreds of thousands of Jews from their homes in Judea, Samaria, Jerusalem and the Golan Heights. It also involves Israel agreeing to cease being a Jewish state by accepting millions of foreign, hostile Arabs as citizens within its truncated borders.
The day an Israeli government accepts the plan – which again will form the basis of the Obama “peace conference” – is the day that the State of Israel signs its own death warrant.

Pakistani Christians Under Attack
By: Faith J. H. McDonnell, FrontPageMagazine.com:
We’ve seen it before. Perhaps the most dramatic examples in recent history of that particular insanity prevalent in Islamism were the Danish cartoon “protests.” Global riots, mayhem, and murder – because of some splotches of ink on paper.
Currently, false blasphemy accusations led to open season on Christians in Pakistan’s Punjab Province. Korian, home to about 100 families, was destroyed on the night of July 30 because Islamists accused a Christian family of desecrating the Koran. Two days later, the same unfounded rumor resulted in three Christian women and a child being burned alive in the northeastern Punjab town of Gojra. At least ten others were also killed as Islamists set fire to houses and shops. Then on August 5 in Sheikhupura, a Christian factory owner and two others were killed by an enraged mob when workers accused their employer of desecrating the Koran.

EGYPT: TWO COPTS IMPRISONED AFTER REPORTING ATTACK
Compass Direct News:
Two Coptic Christians in Egypt have been arrested and are being held without charge after reporting to police they had been beaten by a mob, an attorney for the men said yesterday. On the evening of July 31, Reda Hnein, 35, his brother Nagi Hnein Fawzi, 27, and their uncle Youssef Fawzi Iskandar, 58, all Coptic farmers, were leading a cow down a road in the village of Al-Fashn when the attack happened. Al-Fashn is about 87 miles (140 kilometers) south of Cairo along the Nile River in the state of Minya.
During the trip, two Muslim men riding a motorbike crashed into the cow. An argument ensued, and a mob of about 10 other Muslim men joined into the disagreement and began beating the Copts with sticks, said Ihab Ramzi, an attorney representing the three Coptic men.
Reda Hnein and Iskandar received minor injuries. Fawzi, however, suffered a fractured skull and lacerations on his scalp. He was taken to Minya University Hospital, where he regained consciousness earlier this week but remains hospitalized, according to his family.
On the day of the incident, Hnein and Iskandar went to police to file a complaint. They were told to return the next day to file a report with an investigating attorney. But after they gave their report the next day, local police arrested the two men on orders of Egypt’s State Security Investigations, a political police force run by the Interior minister.

ACLU, Gitmo lawyers exposed CIA agent identities to terrorists

The ACLU and defense attorneys for detainees at Guantanamo Bay surveilled and took pictures of CIA agents and then showed the photos to terrorists at Gitmo. The Department of Justice has begun an investigation into the exposure of American agents, the Washington Post reports, in some cases in front of their homes. It underscores once again the stupidity of involving the civil court system in the handling of unlawful combatants in wartime:

The Truth About Death Counseling
By Charles Krauthammer:
To offer government reimbursement to any doctor who gives end-of-life counseling — whether or not the patient asked for it — is to create an incentive for such a chat.
What do you think such a chat would be like? Do you think the doctor will go on and on about the fantastic new million-dollar high-tech gizmo that can prolong the patient’s otherwise hopeless condition for another six months? Or do you think he’s going to talk about — as the bill specifically spells out — hospice care and palliative care and other ways of letting go of life?
No, say the defenders. It’s just that we want the doctors to talk to you about putting in place a living will and other such instruments. Really?

Big Government, Big Recession
By ALAN REYNOLDS, WSJ:
‘So it seems that we aren’t going to have a second Great Depression after all,” wrote New York Times columnist Paul Krugman last week. “What saved us? The answer, basically, is Big Government. . . . [W]e appear to have averted the worst: utter catastrophe no longer seems likely. And Big Government, run by people who understand its virtues, is the reason why.”
This is certainly a novel theory of the business cycle. To be taken seriously, however, any such explanation of recessions and recoveries must be tested against the facts. It is not enough to assert the U.S. economy would have experienced a “second Great Depression” were it not for the Obama stimulus plan.
Even those who think government borrowing is a free lunch can’t possibly believe the government has already done enough “stimulus spending” to explain the difference between depression and recovery.

The Biggest Missing Story in Politics – One Year Update
By Bruce Walker, AT:
August 25, 2008, just about one year ago, my article on those Battleground Polls — which have routinely shown for many years that about sixty percent of Americans are “conservatives” — stirred up quite a ruckus. If my analysis is right, then that would explain Democrat hysteria over the town hall meetings in America as the revelation that the Left is just a small minority of Americans who have insinuated themselves into the chokepoints of information, education, entertainment, and policy in American society.[...]
Now Gallup has come up with three polls in three months, which deal explicitly with the ideology of Americans, which confirms everything I have been writing about the strong conservative character of our country. The Red State / Blue State map reflects a partisan divide in America, but not an ideological divide at all. If Red State means “conservative” and Blue State means “liberal,” then guess what? The entire map of the United States, except for a peculiar tiny rectangle carved out of southern Maryland, is Red State. The Biggest Missing Story in Politics is still The Biggest Missing Story in Politics. What is it that Republicans don’t get?
Voight: Is Obama creating a civil war in America?
By Jennifer Harper INSIDE THE BELTWAY:
Be outraged, Mr. Voight advises.
“Do not let the Obama administration fool you with all their cunning Alinsky methods. And if you don’t know what that method is, I implore you to get the book ‘Rules for Radicals,’ by Saul Alinsky . Mr. Obama is very well trained in these methods,” he continues, citing a television campaign critical of the Republican Party and contentious town-hall meetings about health care reform.
“The real truth is that the Obama administration is professional at bullying, as we have witnessed with ACORN at work during the presidential campaign. It seems to me they are sending down their bullies to create fist fights among average American citizens who don’t want a government-run health care plan forced upon them,” Mr. Voight says. “So I ask again. Is President Obama creating a civil war in our own country?”

Lila Rose exposed racism in Planned Parenthood clinics by getting clinic staffers to accept money earmarked for killing “a black baby.” Rose got several Planned Parenthood employees fired for being willing to cover up statutory rape. She also got Tennessee lawmakers to pull government funding for Planned Parenthood—all $1.1 million of it.
The most amazing part of it all is that Lila Rose is only 20.

Do Americans Care about British Soldiers? (YES)
by Michael Yon:
Helmand Province, Afghanistan
A gunshot ripped through the darkness and a young British soldier fell dying on FOB Jackson. I was just nearby talking on the satellite phone and saw the commotion. The soldier was taken to the medical tent and a helicopter lifted him to the excellent trauma center at Camp Bastion. That he made it to Camp Bastion alive dramatically improved his chances. But his life teetered and was in danger of slipping away. Making matters worse, the British medical system back in the United Kingdom did not possess the specialized gear needed to save his life. Americans had the right gear in Germany, and so the British soldier was put into the American system.
British officers in his unit, 2 Rifles, wanted to track their man every step of the way, and to ensure that his family was informed and supported in this time of high stress. Yet having their soldier suddenly in the American system caused a temporary glitch in communications with folks in Germany. The British leadership in Sangin could have worked through the glitch within some hours, but that would have been hours wasted, and they wanted to know the status of their soldier now. So a British officer in Sangin – thinking creatively –asked if I knew any shortcuts to open communications. The right people were only an email away: Soldiers Angels. And so within about two minutes, these fingers typed an email with this subject heading: CALLING ALL ANGELS.

Imagine You Are a Doctor
by Hunter Baker, Acton Institute:
As the debate over healthcare reform has developed, opposition has coalesced against the idea of a “public option” — the creation of a new government insurance program. The most common objection is that the existence of such a program would lead many companies to abandon their employee insurance plans in favor of a cheaper government alternative as a way of cutting costs. Thus, despite the president’s many assurances, individuals with insurance plans they like would probably lose their current coverage and end up moving to something like Medicare. The specter of losing a good private plan and ending up in a less satisfactory public program is a solid reason for opposing the measure, but there is a better reason for opposition. It has to do with human rights.

FBI Agents Visit the Home and Question Nationally Known Christian Activist and Outspoken Critic of President Obama’s Human Rights and Social Justice Record
Christian Newswire:
Agents came to the home of the Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition to question him and “gather intelligence” about his laying roses at the Chinese Embassy on June 4th.
On June 4th, Rev. Mahoney and his daughter Kaitlin held a prayer vigil and peacefully laid roses in front of the Chinese Embassy on the 20th Anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre.
The purpose of the vigil was to honor and remember the heroic students who were brutalized in Tiananmen Square and to pray that the Chinese government would protect and honor human rights and religious liberty.
The Christian Defense Coalition is troubled that an American citizen would be visited and questioned at his home by federal agents for simply praying in the public square and peacefully exercising his First Amendment rights.
What makes the situation even more disturbing is the fact that Rev. Mahoney has led over 40 peaceful demonstrations outside of the Chinese Embassy for the past 20 years and has never been questioned by any federal or local law enforcement officials.

Swedish government funds anti-Semitic NGOs
Gerald Steinberg , THE JERUSALEM POST:
The article in Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet accusing Israeli soldiers of stealing and selling the organs of Palestinians is not a surprise or isolated aberration, but rather the result of a long campaign of anti-Israeli demonization, based on manufactured “evidence” repeated by Palestinian “eyewitnesses”.
Applying the strategy adopted at the NGO forum of the 2001 UN Durban conference, the well-financed network of radical non-governmental organizations (NGOs) plays a major role in this demonization, and the Swedish government is a major source of funding. Expressions of modern anti-Semitism and blood libels are the logical results of this activity.
An NGO Monitor research report on Swedish government funding, published on June 29 2009, documented this pattern in detail, and warned of the incitement and anti-Semitic language being used routinely by these organizations. This systematic study examined over 20 major NGOs funded through the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), Diakonia, the multi-national NGO Development Center (NDC), and the Swedish Mission Council (SMR).

Honor Killings Come to America
By: Ryan Mauro, FrontPageMagazine.com:
Muslim women overseas have long had to deal with the threat of honor killings, but several incidents in recent years show that the threat has come to American soil.
A 17-year old girl named Fathima Rifqa Bary is currently engaged in a custody battle after fleeing her father in Ohio, who she claimed threatened to kill her for converting to Christianity. She is currently living with Pastors Blake and Beverly Lorenz of Global Revolution Church in Orlando, who she became friends with through Facebook.
Bary says she took an approximately 30-hour bus ride from Ohio to Orlando in September to save her life. A video of her testimony has been posted on YouTube, where she cries as she explains that her family is required by Islam to execute her and that she’d die within a week of going back to Ohio.

I Am Finally Scared of a White House Administration

I was not intimidated during J. Edgar Hoover’s FBI hunt for reporters like me who criticized him. I railed against the Bush-Cheney war on the Bill of Rights without blinking. But now I am finally scared of a White House administration. President Obama’s desired health care reform intends that a federal board (similar to the British model) – as in the Center for Health Outcomes Research and Evaluation in a current Democratic bill – decides whether your quality of life, regardless of your political party, merits government-controlled funds to keep you alive. Watch for that life-decider in the final bill. It’s already in the stimulus bill signed into law.

SICK FANATICS CHEER BODY BAGS

Dozens of homegrown “jihadis” have posted website messages cheering last weekend’s carnage in Helmand province that saw Britain’s death toll rise to 204 soldiers.
Last night there were calls by senior politicians for the Home Office to crack down on the hate-filled rants that will distress even further the relatives of troops who gave their lives fighting the Taliban.
The shameful website involved stoked up hatred as it emerged that one of two soldiers killed trying to save their mortally wounded commander had recently got married before deploying to Afghanistan.

Islam’s European Conquest: Is America Next?
By John Griffing, AT:
“Islamic lands that were occupied by the enemies will once again become Islamic…We proclaim that we will conquer Rome, like Constantinople was conquered once, and as it will be conquered again.” – Ali Al-Faqir, the Jordanian Minister for Religious EndowmentBritain, birthplace of parliamentary democracy, has fallen to Islam. Oxford, once home to the likes of C.S. Lewis, now houses a giant Eastern Islamic Studies Center. If this were the only Islamic addition to Oxford, the mood would be less somber, but when Oxford citizens are forced to awake every morning to the Muslim call to prayer with the full consent of the Church of England, nothing short of conquest has taken place.
Britain’s Muslim demographic is now so dominant that the British government recently began to allow Islamic civil and religious law, known as Sharia, to be enforced along side British law.
But if religious tolerance is good, why is this a problem? Simple-this is not an issue of religious liberty. Islam is not designed to co-exist with western civilization. It is designed to conquer it.
Most would agree that Judeo-Christian values are consistent with Anglo-American tradition. Can the same be said of Islam? Even Muslims don’t think so. The chief Justice of London’s Sharia Court made this chilling statement:

Motto for today
David Warren:
[...]
I thus admire the motto of old Queen Bess for the medieval notion it contains: the notion of “semper,” or always; of constancy, faith. “Semper fidelis,” in the old Catholic motto that survives today even as the watchword of the United States Marine Corps. “Always faithful” — to God, to our country, to our countrymen; to our family and friends; and especially to our fellow warriors in the trenches; faithful to the true, the beautiful, the good; faithful “unto this last.”
Faithful, incidentally, to the very things that such unspeakably vile organizations as the ACLU in the U.S., and the “human rights” commissions up here, are dedicated to exterminating.
“Semper fidelis” is an affirmation, a very personal commitment, and a constant reminder — that we must never stoop to moral relativism, that we will never surrender that which makes us human in the highest sense, to that which would reduce us to the condition of grovelling animals.
But, “semper eadem” belongs more suitably on the crest of a state, for in the world of government and law the aspiration should be to avoid any kind of surprise, fear or favour. As the guardian of our freedom, the state must remain “always the same;” and likewise, as the dispenser of public justice, it must strive to provide, quite blindly, “the same for everybody.”
The state must therefore be minimal, too: its functionaries stripped whenever possible of their audacious hopes, and ability to change things. For the state should be the means of last resort and not, as it has become, a voracious beast, with an ever-increasing appetite to control the souls of men, by appropriating their possessions.
Vast oceans lay beneath surface of the Earth
Telegraph [UK]:
Scientists believe areas of enhanced electrical conductivity in the mantle – the thick region between the Earth’s crust and its core – betray the presence of water.
Water divining researchers produced a global three-dimensional map of the mantle showing the areas through which electricity flowed most freely.
Conductivity hot spots were found to coincide with subduction zones, sites where the tectonic plates that divide up the Earth’s surface are being forced downwards.
[...]
Colleague Professor Gary Egbert, also at Oregon State, added: ”In fact, we don’t really know how much water there is on Earth. There is some evidence that there is many times more water below the ocean floor than there is in all the oceans of the world combined. Our results may shed some light on this question.”Other possible reasons for enhanced conductivity in the mantle include raised levels of iron or carbon, said the researchers.
The presence of water could also be explained in different ways.
”If it isn’t being subducted down with the plates, how did it get there?” said Prof Schultz. ”Is it primordial, down there for four billion years? Or did it indeed come down as the plates slowly subduct, suggesting that the planet may have been much wetter a long time ago? These are fascinating questions, for which we do not yet have answers.”

Rise up against these monsters
By MONTE SOLBERG, Ottawa Sun:
I was born with the terrible handicap of not being able to wake up in the morning and leap from my bed without feeling the urgent call to run to the aid of my country.
I hope you will not think worse of me to discover that it is my heavy and strangely happy burden to strap on my sword everyday so that I might furiously sunder giants and slay dragons in the service of saving small children, rescuing maidens and protecting the lives and treasure of this tiny village called Canada.
All I ask is that you not think of me as the hero in all of this, though it would be understandable and pleasant if you did. In fact I acknowledge that many people feel that I play a different and less esteemed role in the village.
Be that as it may one of the forms that my selfless duty to our wonderful country takes is as the guardian who lies in wait, ready to ambush the giant myths and tackle the staggering illogicalities that dominate many people’s thinking.
‘Thinking’
I hasten to mention, however, that to call that particular mental process “thinking” is to bestow a stature upon it that really cannot be supported by the evidence.
The list of these bellowing monstrosities includes official multiculturalism that encourages intolerance, human rights commissions that undermine human rights, employment insurance that creates unemployment, democratic institutions that steamroll democracy, unjust justice systems and even environmental policies that harm the environment.

The collectivist challenge to Darwinism
by David Tyler, ID Report:
The general public is led to think that Charles Darwin magnificently solved the problems associated with the emergence of biological complexity. Many opinion-formers write confidently about the revolution triggered by the publication of “On the origin of species” in 1859. These people have developed a ‘consensus’ position which they use to convince scientific societies, policy makers, funding agencies and educationalists that any dilution of Darwinism is a retrograde step, ushering in a dark age for science. What will they make – and what will we make – of an essay in Nature Physics that talks about breaking with “many of the presuppositions of traditional evolutionary thinking” and highlights its message with these words:
“A coming revolution may go so far as to unseat Darwinian evolution as the key explanatory process in biology.”

Lisa Abramowicz, secretary-general of the Swedish-Israel Information Center, a small organization which works to combat anti-Israel bias in the Swedish media, said that stories like this are common in Sweden.“The situation is really, really, bad,” she said of the anti-Israel sentiment in Swedish media.
Abramowicz said that Swedish newspapers often make Israel out to be the enemy, while championing the Palestinian cause. Aftonbladet is the “worst,” but not the only newspaper, in publishing partial rhetoric against Israel, she said, not only in its news articles but on its editorial page and in the culture section.
“Some people are more equal than others, and Palestinians are more equal than any others in the Swedish media,” Abramowicz said. “This is what we are force-fed with morning, day and night, even in the serious newspapers.”
