Glenn Beck Closing in on Van Jones
By Cliff Kincaid, AIM:
“Is Glenn Beck finished?” is the headline over an article on a left-wing website, insisting that a campaign against Beck’s Fox News Channel program has cost him 36 advertisers and that his show may be cancelled as a result. The campaign against Beck is being waged by a group called Color of Change, whose co-founder, Van Jones, is now Obama’s green-jobs czar.
Not coincidentally, Beck has repeatedly singled out Van Jones for criticism, citing evidence of his communist past. The source of this evidence is New Zealand blogger Trevor Loudon, the same researcher who originally unearthed the fact that Obama’s mysterious mentor “Frank” in Obama’s book Dreams from My Father was Communist Party member Frank Marshall Davis. We confirmed that identification with a separate source and ran with the story last year, even obtaining the 600-page FBI file on Davis. It also came out that Davis was a sex pervert, doper, and pornographer.
The Obama campaign eventually confirmed Frank’s identity but tried to play down his relationship with Obama. Most media gave the scandal a ho-hum.

Cheney Statement on CIA Documents/Investigation
Dick Cheney, Weekly Standard:
[...]
President Obama’s decision to allow the Justice Department to investigate and possibly prosecute CIA personnel, and his decision to remove authority for interrogation from the CIA to the White House, serves as a reminder, if any were needed, of why so many Americans have doubts about this Administration’s ability to be responsible for our nation’s security
TURKEY: MURDER DEFENDANT AGAIN ADMITS PERJURY
Compass Direct News:
Turkish murder suspect Emre Gunaydin admitted in court last week that he had again committed perjury in the trial over the savage murders of three Christians in southeast Turkey.
Gunaydin, 21, faced off in Malatya’s Third Criminal Court on Friday (Aug. 21) with Varol Bulent Aral, whom he had named as one of the instigators of the attack at Zirve Publishing Co.’s Malatya office in a previous disposition before state prosecutors. Gunaydin, the alleged ringleader of the murderers, told the court that he had lied in a previous disposition before state prosecutors by implicating Aral.
“I named Varol Bulent Aral to reduce the sentence,” Gunaydin said under questioning.
His admission came after Aral testified at length, painting an elaborate scenario of himself as a key player in the “Ergenekon” conspiracy – said to include top level political and security officials, among others – suspected of orchestrating the 2007 Malatya attack with Gunaydin and four other defendants.

Obama’s Human Rights Disaster
By: Jamie Glazov, FrontPageMagazine.com:
Frontpage Interview’s guest today is Elliott Abrams, senior fellow for Middle Eastern Studies at the Council on Foreign Relations. He was a deputy national security adviser in the Bush administration.
FP: Elliott Abrams, welcome to Frontpage Interview.I would like to talk to you today about America’s human rights policy under Obama.
What is Obama’s human rights policy exactly? The recent visit to the U.S. of Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak was kind of illuminating in this context, yes?
Abrams: It seems clear to me that the Obama Administration has no human rights policy. That is, while in some inchoate sense they would like respect for human rights to grow around the world, as all Americans would, they have no actual policy to achieve that goal– and they subordinate it to all their other policy goals.
In the Middle East, for example, they have decided to go for an Israeli-Palestinian deal at all costs. That means our relations with Egypt (and Saudi Arabia, Syria, etc.) are all about Israeli-Palestinian matters, not about Egypt itself as a country. Human rights and democracy in Egypt become a small issue, a side issue.
The Mubarak visit was illuminating, as was the President’s choice of Cairo to give his speech a few months ago, for Obama pretty much forgot about freedom. He did not utter the word (or words like democracy, human rights, free elections) sitting there next to Mubarak at the White House. Democracy activists in Egypt have been abandoned.
Clinton’s remarks about China are another example. Mitchell’s visits to Syria are yet another: dead silence about human rights, smiles at dictators. That’s the norm.
FP: What are the consequences of this lack of a human rights policy?
Abrams: There are four major ones.

New Ice Age could be coming
Lawrence Solomon, NP:
Earth could soon be entering a new Ice Age, according to scientists at Oregon State University and other institutions, in a study to b e released this week by Science magazine.
“Sometime around now, scientists say, the Earth should be changing from a long interglacial period that has lasted the past 10,000 years and shifting back towards conditions that will ultimately lead to another ice age – unless some other forces stop or slow it,” states a release from Oregon State University.

Cool …
Dr. Obama and the Hypocrite’s Oath
By Monte Kuligowski, AT:
President Obama’s preferred method of implementing his leftist agenda is to rush emergency, must-sign-yesterday bills through Congress. Forget about reading the legislation. Just trust Obama, Pelosi, Reid, Schumer and Barney Frank with the details. The problem with this method is that when the details finally come out, it’s too late for the people to do anything about it. President Obama’s preferred method naturally fosters frustration and anger. Due to the economic “crisis,” Obama and the far left element of the Democrat Party had to pass an emergency stimulus spending plan before anyone had time to read it. Afterwards, the public learned that the bulk of the emergency bill to save the economy in 2009 would not be implemented until 2010 and beyond. As the public learns of the legislation’s massive waste and cronyism it is becoming apparent that the so-called stimulus was more about stimulating the power of the left than the economy.

Well on our way down the ‘Road to Serfdom’
Ed Lasky, AT:
President Obama’s has no experience in the business world and has an antipathy towards capitalism and free enterprise. His Cabinet choices share in his ignorance of business-none of them have real world business experience. His various czars also have resumes shorn of operating experience in the real world. Now comes two news items that reveal even more that his true agenda is to place the levers of power in our society into the hands of left-wingers who share his views.
He has chosen a leader in the AFL-CIO union to be head of the New York Federal Reserve Bank-easily the most important position among the 12 regional Fed banks. John Hilsenrath of the Wall Street Journal has the details:
Wait. The White House is behind the Glenn Beck boycott?
Don Surber:
Whoa.
Move over Richard Nixon.
President Barack Obama has surpassed him as the most partisan president in my lifetime.
An environmental adviser on Obama’s payroll was behind that campaign to get advertisers to boycott Glenn Beck’s TV show, the Los Angeles Times reported.
On a blog.
This would be front-page news with Matt Drudge siren if Karl Rove had tried to pull a stunt like this.
Instead, rather nonchalantly, Matea Gold reported: “Fox News host Glenn Beck used his popular show Monday to attack the background of Van Jones, a White House environmental adviser and co-founder of an African American political advocacy group that organized an advertising boycott of his program.”
What?
The man is on the public payroll and he is trying to silence a critic of his boss?

How much longer will Americans tolerate these Brownshirt tactics?

Hamas is leading Palestine down the road of carnage
By Ron Prosor, Telegraph [UK]:
Earlier this month, Hamas launched a devastating bombardment of rocket-propelled grenades and machine-gun fire against a mosque in Rafah. The attack killed at least 22 Palestinians, including an 11-year-old girl. Over 100 more were injured and the mosque, which belonged to a rival Islamist faction, the Jund Ansar Allah, was left riddled with bullets. The adjacent building was destroyed. Yet Hamas’s disregard for the sanctity of a house of worship, and its contempt for the lives of neighbouring civilians, is unlikely to be the subject of any probing reports from Human Rights Watch.
It is no surprise to see Hamas brutalising the Palestinian population as it tightens its vice-like grip over Gaza. After all, it seized control of the territory in a bloody coup against the Palestinian Authority in June 2007, murdering rivals and hurling PA officials from the rooftops. Subsequently, it has ruthlessly and violently crushed any potential challenge to its power, whether from the Palestinian nationalists of Fatah, or from rival terrorist groups within the Islamist fold.
Meanwhile, it has imposed Gaza’s rapid descent into fanatical freefall.

Obama’s Big Bang could go bust
POLITICO:
Barack Obama’s Big Bang is beginning to backfire, as his plans for rapid, once-in-a-generation overhauls of energy, financial regulation and health care are running into stiff resistance, both in Washington and around the country.
The Obama theory was simple, though always freighted with risk: Use a season of economic anxiety to enact sweeping changes the public likely wouldn’t stomach in ordinary times. But the abrupt swing in the public’s mood, from optimism about Obama’s possibility to concern he may be overreaching, has thrown the White House off its strategy and forced the president to curtail his ambitions.

Krauthammer’s Take
NRO:
From Friday’s Fox News All-Stars.
On the Obama administration adjusting the estimated ten-year deficit up from $7 trillion to $9 trillion:
That is why the word “trillion” ought to be abolished. It does not have the gravitas — the enormity — of the numbers, of the zeros underlying it.
This is a huge increase in the deficit. And if you think of it, this is an estimate over a decade, which means that the annual [deficit] will be nearly $1 trillion. It will be $900 million every year for ten years, which is unsustainable.
It will destroy the dollar. The only way that kind of debt is paid off is not in taxes. It is in inflation. And everyone will see it coming. It will raise interest rates.
This is a crisis in and of itself. And one of the reasons health care is in trouble — there are a lot of reasons — but one of them is Americans understand that when you are looking at [health-care] deficits which are…adding $1 trillion or $1.6 trillion, as the CBO has estimated in the Senate plan, adding that onto it gratuitously is insane.
If there are any increases in taxes — that you’re going to use within health care — those increases in taxes or reductions in spending ought to be to the existing deficit, which will destroy the economy.

Author Sebastian Faulks risks Muslim fury by describing the Koran as the ‘depressing rantings of a schizophrenic’
Daily Mail [UK]:
Best-selling novelist Sebastian Faulks has risked incurring the wrath of Muslims by dismissing the Koran as just ‘the depressive rantings of a schizophrenic’ with ‘no ethical dimension’.
The author of Birdsong and Engleby also claimed that, compared to the Bible, the Islamic holy scripture is ‘barren’.
Faulks, who turned to the Koran while researching his latest novel, said: ‘It’s a depressing book. It really is. It’s just the rantings of a schizophrenic. It’s very one-dimensional, and people talk about the beauty of the Arabic and so on, but the English translation I read was, from a literary point of view, very disappointing.
‘There is also the barrenness of the message,’ he told The Sunday Times. ‘I mean, there are some bits about diet, you know, the equivalent of the Old Testament, which is also crazy.

Why the Washington Post Censored Robert Novak
By Cliff Kincaid.AIM:
In his book, The Prince of Darkness, the late journalist Robert Novak described how the Washington Post, which carried his columns, censored one of them. The censored column concerned the activities in Washington, D.C. of Cuban agent-of-influence Orlando Letelier. Novak describes how the Post’s editorial page editor, Philip Geyelin, “spiked” the column because of “displeasure with the column’s content.”Letelier, a Chilean Marxist working for Cuba, had been manipulating the media and Congress before his death from a car bomb in 1976. Novak had received Letelier’s incriminating briefcase papers, recovered after his death.
“I retell this story because the incident was so unusual in my long, friendly relationship with the Washington Post,” Novak said. Novak was always a strong anti-communist, just like Accuracy in Media founder Reed Irvine, who also covered the significance of the Letelier briefcase papers.
The story is worth retelling now, not only because of the passing of this great journalist, but because America’s enemies continue to be very well organized in Washington, D.C., especially in regard to the “new Cuba”-Venezuela.
The Post has long been blind to the activities of communist agents in the nation’s capital. Consider the coverage of Hugo Chávez’s Venezuela.

Why unions are “Astroturfing” health-care town halls
by Ed Morrissey. HOT AIR:
After enraged constituents started showing up at Congressional town-hall forums to oppose ObamaCare, the unions acted quickly to counterdemonstrate on behalf of the Democratic agenda item. In at least one case, union representatives used violence to intimidate and harrass ObamaCare opponents. The same union, which represents a large percentage of government workers and would be presumably immune from any health-care reform action, issued memos demanding volunteers to “drown out” opposition to ObamaCare. But why?
This report from the Detroit Free Press explains that the unions have a good reason — actually, ten billion good reasons:

Collaborators in the War Against the Jews
By: Steven Plaut, FrontPageMagazine.com:
Some of the individuals waging an all out war on American college campuses against Israrel and the Jews are themselves Jewish. Some have called them “non-Jewish” or “self-hating” Jews. What is undeniable is that in the role they have chosen, these individuals are collaborating, often openly and without apology, with groups such as Hamas and Hizbollah and states such as Ahmadinejad’s Iran that call for a new genocide. Over the next few weeks, Frontpage will profile some of these Jewish collaborators in the war against Israel and the Jews and show how they give and and comfort to the Islamist enemy — The Editors.
The campus war against Israel and the Jews is led by a group of anti-Semites, many of them faculty members, who have made a career for themselves by traveling from one university to another supporting Arab terrorism. They invariably pretend that they are promoting peace. But in the Orwellian bubble where they live, Arab aggression and terror become self-defense and Israeli self-defense becomes aggression and terror. Israeli democracy is apartheid, while Arab genocide is liberation.

Boycotting the Boycotters
By Andrew Breitbart:
Everywhere one looks these days, the intolerance of self-avowed liberals is on display. Especially since Mr. Obama came to power.
The purportedly open-minded and empathic among us who now run everything – save for NASCAR and Nashville – openly wage war against those who dare disagree.
Witness Steny Hoyer and Nancy Pelosi’s joint-penned editorial in USA Today in which the House’s two top Democrats describe those publicly questioning Mr. Obama’s proposed health care system overhaul as “un-American.”
One need not go back too far in the political time machine to recall a time when the same people were claiming that the term “un-American” was being tossed at liberals for opposing the Iraq war, and that Republicans were stifling free speech.
Examples were rarely, if ever, given. It just was. And we were told this was a very, very bad thing.

The greatest change in the history of Europe
By Ed West, EuropeNews:
Reflections on the Revolution in Europe
by Christopher Caldwell
Penguin, £14.99
This mild-mannered, mainstream journalist’s predictions for Europe’s future are devastating, says Ed West. You might not hear about this book much in the next month, nor even in the next year, but it will affect your life in some way, and that of our country and continent.
Christopher Caldwell is a mild-mannered Financial Times journalist who over the past decade has covered continental Europe (France especially) and its relationship with Islam in particular.
That Caldwell is so mainstream, well-respected and analytical makes his conclusion all the more devastating – that the mass migration of Africans and Asians into Europe since the Second World War was an unprecedented, economically unnecessary and ill-thought-out plan that has had a profoundly negative impact on our way of life.
Furthermore, he says, the mass importation of Muslims at a time when Europe has lost its own faith and Islam has developed a dangerous and powerful radicalism threatens the very freedom of Europe.

Killing Rifqa
By Andrew Bostom, AT:
Rifqa Bary faces death for her apostasy from Islam, while the media ignores the solid religious and institutional grounding for the practice. Today. In America.
Magdi Allam, is an intrepid Egyptian-born writer and vociferous critic of jihadism who was publicly converted to Christianity from Islam by Pope Benedict XVI during an Easter eve service in St Peter’s Basilica broadcast worldwide, Saturday March 22, 2008. Writing at the time of his public apostasy, Allam highlighted the West’s weakness and flaccidity, foremost, its stifling multiculturalism.
Allam decried the multicultural ethos for blandly asserting the “equality” of cultural and religious mores, even abjuring rational criticism of Islamic religious bigotry — such as authoritative Islam’s living, consensus jurisprudence that those who apostasize from Islam must be killed — lest the tender sensibilities of Muslims be offended. He noted how in his adopted homeland of Italy, every Muslim can go to a mosque, but in the Muslim world there is ongoing and long-standing discrimination against religious minorities — notably Christians — entirely ignored by Western multiculturalists, of all ilks. Allam observed, moreover, the perverse phenomenon that in Western countries,
“When a Westerner decides to convert to Islam, that’s fine, but when a Muslim converts to Christianity, it is suddenly the end of the world. Everyone condemns him, as though he has done something of which he should be ashamed.”

Happy Birthday, William Wilberforce
By Chuck Colson:
Today marks the 250th birthday of William Wilberforce, the Christian statesman who, for 18 arduous years, led the crusade against the abominable British slave trade. And I can think of no better gift I could give my listeners than to tell you about some of the traits that made Wilberforce a man who profoundly changed history—and whose legacy so profoundly shaped my life.To speak of Wilberforce is to speak of biblical worldview in action. When Wilberforce, one of the youngest members of Parliament, came to Christ, he contemplated leaving office and becoming a clergyman.
Thankfully, William Pitt, who went on to be Great Britain’s youngest prime minister, convinced him otherwise. In a letter to his dear friend, Pitt wrote: “Surely the principles as well as the practice of Christianity are simple and lead not to meditation only, but to action.”
And indeed, for Wilberforce, Christian faith meant action. He could not stand idly by and see the imago Dei of each person, the image of God, abused. His fiercely unpopular crusade against the slave trade ravaged his health and cost him politically. He endured verbal assaults and was even challenged to a duel by an angry slave-ship captain.

Historical fantasies
Jonathan Kay, National Post:
This just in from former Canadian Islamic Congress chief Mohamed Elmasry: Islamic slavery wasn’t all that bad.
Writing in The Canadian Charger — a newly formed internet-based grab bag of anti-Western articles published by hard-left Canadian activists — Elmasry works hard to distinguish the evils of Christian slavery from the purportedly enlightened race-mixing that resulted from its Islamic equivalent.
[...]
It’s amazing, isn’t it? Our Christian leaders seem to do nothing but apologize these days — for every historical sin under the sun. But here you have a man who recently led the most prominent Muslim activist group in Canada, and he thinks it’s just dandy that his Arab forebears colonized and enslaved great swathes of Africa over the course of many centuries — a colonial situation that essentially persists in Sudan and regions of the Maghreb.Remember this the next time Elmasry or one of his fellow travelers denounces Western “imperialism.”
The sad part is that our treasonous media, the elite class and the academics celebrate each and every attack on Christianiry [I mean of course true, Bible-believing Christianity, not that pretend leftist crap] but at the same time that same media provide cover for every atrocity committed by or obscenity that spews from the mouth of every other faith practitioners.

Backlash Against Boycott of Glenn Beck
NewsMax:
A leftwing group’s effort to intimidate corporate advertisers on Fox News’ Glenn Beck show appears to be backfiring as it triggers a wave of support from grassroots fans rushing to defend the popular TV personality from the attacks.
Even before the liberal boycott of Glenn Beck began this summer, the bestselling author and TV host had became a ratings superstar, with his 5 p.m. cable news program pulling mega prime time viewership numbers. Beck had also become a lightning rod for liberal groups who didn’t like his anti-Obama message and his staggeringly large audience.
But now Beck’s fame seems to be growing even more as a spontaneous, nationwide effort has sprung up among fans to defend their hero, including Web sites, Facebook groups, homegrown e-mail blasts, and individual telephone campaigns.
The reaction in support of Beck comes in the wake of the advertiser-boycott campaign launched by Color of Change, an African-American advocacy organization with close ties to the Obama White House.

The Swedish press has been at the forefront of this trend, and with the article published last week by Aftonbladet it has clearly gone over the bend. What is worrisome is not so much the fact that the Swedish government refused to condemn it, but that it saw fit to censure their own ambassador in Israel who had very properly rejected this loathsome piece. UN climate conferences pull together jet-setters in far flung exotic locales
By LORRIE GOLDSTEIN:
One of the most reliable ways to determine whether people are behaving hypocritically is to examine what they do as opposed to what they say.
Using that standard, the thousands upon thousands of jet setters who, year in and year out, attend never-ending United Nations climate change conferences in some of the world’s most popular and exotic locales, define the word “hypocrite.”
This includes everyone from UN officials, to politicians, bureaucrats, celebrities, high-flying global “green” entrepreneurs and environmentalists.
If everyone in the world would or could generate the massive carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions this crowd does as they jet in and out of Bali, Copenhagen, Bonn, Barcelona, Bangkok, Paris, Vienna, Valencia, Sydney, Rio De Janeiro, Washington, New York, Montreal, Anchorage and on and on, the Hollywood disaster flick The Day After Tomorrow would have been a documentary.
That is, if you believe the hysteria these same people incessantly spout about how the world will rapidly come to an end in an Armageddon of weather extremes, unless everyone massively reduces their carbon footprint and leads simpler lives … except them.

By Sher Zieve:
With the establishment of another “if-you-hadn’t-heard-and-seen-it-you-wouldn’t-believe-it” moment, the US Dictator Obama decided to reel in the Christian clergy so that they may convince the Obama-ruled masses that ‘Jesus would want ObamaCare’.
