Netanyahu To Obama: Actually, We’re Going To Keep Letting Jews Build Homes In Jerusalem

Mere Rhetoric:

Jordan captured East Jerusalem in 1948 and expelled all surviving Jews from the city. Meanwhile Israel – being Israel – had no problem letting Arabs own homes in West Jerusalem. Israel then reunited the city in 1967, allowing anybody to purchase property anywhere. Arabs continued to buy land in the western part of the city and Jews began to move back to the portions Jordan had occupied. Theoretically this is what we call a “free market” in a “free country” where people live under the “rule of law.”

Unfortunately the Palestinians find Jews kind of icky so they’re complaining to the White House about a new cluster of Israeli apartments in East Jerusalem. The State Department dutifully summoned Israel’s ambassador to deliver Obama’s stern warning: “no letting Jews live move into the capital of the Jewish State!” This is working out about as well as you’d expect:

By Alan Shanoff, Sun Media:

The subject of a complaint can be left twisting for years as B’nai Brith Canada discovered when it became the subject of a complaint in Manitoba. There is no defence of truth, fair comment or lack of intent. The Canadian Human Rights Tribunal has wide powers including the power to award monetary damages and fines to an aggregate of $30,000.

We should not censor or punish others for criticism of religious dogma even if some may be offended. Only extreme speech advocating hatred or inciting violence should be subject to prosecution and we should leave that task for the courts

Christian doctor faces axe from adoption panel over failing to back same-sex families

Daily Mail [UK]:

A Christian doctor faces removal from a council adoption panel because she refuses to endorse homosexual couples seeking to adopt.

Dr Sheila Matthews, a paediatrician, was told that her beliefs on gay adoption were incompatible with New Labour’s equality legislation and the council’s own policies.

The medic wanted to abstain from voting on Northamptonshire County Council’s adoption panels on the ‘rare’ occasions when cases involving same-sex couples were being considered. Yesterday she said to do otherwise would be to contradict her Christian beliefs.
