IRAN AND NORTH KOREAN ARE MAKING A MOCKERY OF HIM

By RALPH PETERS, NY Post:

In the old days at Officer Candidate School, the “tac officers,” snapping and snarling, would circle a hapless would-be lieutenant:

“You’re lost, Candidate.”

“You’re confused.”

“What are you going to do now?”

“Make a decision! Make a decision!”

That cherished image of the bewildered victim of calculated harassment fits President Obama perfectly, when it comes to the shambles he’s made of foreign policy in record time.

Around the globe, our enemies — immediate and potential — are testing Obama to see how far they can go. Thus far, he hasn’t set a limit anywhere. Not a single dictator or terrorist leader got a single time-out.

Last week, North Korea nuke-mooned him, then spit missiles in multiple directions. Our president admonished Pyongyang. Words solve everything in Obama-World.

The Master of the Teleprompter didn’t seem to grasp the basics:

Lost in the Labyrinth of Race

By Victor Davis Hanson:

One of the unexpected results of the Sotomayor nomination is a refocusing on the politics of racial identity and the fossilized institutions of affirmative action-or the belief that the U.S. government should use its vast power to ensure an equality of result rather than a fairness of opportunity.

In the last fifty years, United States has evolved into a complex multiracial state. Race no longer is necessarily an indicator of income or material success-as the record of, say, Japanese-Americans or, indeed Asians in general, attests.

And what criterion constitutes race itself nowadays, when almost every family has someone who is half-Hispanic, a quarter-Asian, one-half black, or part Pakistani? What percentage of one’s lineage ensures purity of race, or qualifies for minority status? Are California Hispanics minorities, or so-called whites that are now a smaller percentage of the state population?

The media hate the truth – and they lie on behalf of Obama

Marie Jon:

“He who hates, disguises it with his lips, and lays up deceit within himself; when he speaks kindly, do not believe him, for there are seven abominations in his heart.” (Proverbs 26:24, 25)

There is a helpless, sinister sense that seems to be hanging like a heavy weight over the country. One can compare the emotion to that of a death of a loved one — America.

Many astute individuals are beginning to understand that something very different from changes of the past is happening to their country. The Democratic National Committee has adopted an extreme, radical-left ideology. It no longer represents the party our parents remember. It would be more aptly renamed the Democratic Socialist Party.

What does a politically-left agenda mean to the average Joe and Jane? Well, unless you’ve been living in a cave: President Obama’s agenda is to increase big government and give us more entitlement programs that will never pan out. He is demanding redistribution of wealth, whether we like it or not. These initiatives will diminish individual liberties — although that, of course, is not being widely discussed.

Zoellick Warns Stimulus ‘Sugar High’ Won’t Stem Unemployment

By Timothy R. Homan, Bloomberg:

World Bank President Robert Zoellick warned policy makers that fiscal-stimulus plans are insufficient to turn around the “real economy” and rising joblessness threatens to set off political unrest across the globe.

“While the stimulus has given an impulse, it’s like a sugar high unless you eventually get the credit system working,” Zoellick said in an interview yesterday with Bloomberg Television’s “Political Capital with Al Hunt.” “When unemployment increases, that’s probably the most political combustible issue.”

Zoellick’s caution is a contrast with private economists, who are raising their outlooks for growth from India to China as stimulus measures take effect. The biggest developed and emerging nations have committed spending increases and tax cuts totaling 2 percent of their combined economies, a level the International Monetary Fund recommended to end the recession.

Oppression Liberators Need not Apply

George Joyce, AT:

This is a job announcement from the website of one of America’s top inner-city public charter schools located in Oakland, California (no kidding):

“AIPCS is always in search of teachers and staff who are smart, ambitious, and motivated to teach inner-city youth. We are looking for hard working people who believe in free market capitalism to join our family at AIPCS.

“AIPCS believes in setting a high standard for ALL students regardless of race, ethnicity, language, economic standing, etc.”

“Multi-cultural specialists, ultra liberal zealots, and college-tainted oppression liberators need not apply.”

“If you believe ‘hard work’ is the key to academic success for minority students, poor students, and all other students, we encourage you to submit the following documents by fax or email.”

Let me get this straight. An inner-city public charter school job announcement specifically discriminates against the following applicants: socialists, multiculturalists, “ultra liberal zealots, and college-tainted oppression liberators.

Takes your breath away doesn’t it? In a time when white conservatives have been viciously abused for merely thinking along these lines, the American Indian Public Charter School in Oakland openly and courageously protects its young students from America’s mostly harmful liberal educrats. The result is a flourishing academic environment that produces some of California’s top scores and manages to send its students to places like MIT and Cornell

Highway robbery

David Warren:

The figure of $1.4 million, for the amount of the taxpayers’ money that will be spent on saving each job at General Motors and Chrysler, has now appeared in the media. I have no idea whether it is accurate; more fundamentally, no idea how anyone could arrive at a plausible final reckoning, at the bottom of a sheet of wildly expensive variables.

What began as a $4-billion bailout, and was defended at that level by a prime minister who wrote and reasoned so eloquently against corporate bailouts when he was running the National Citizens Coalition, has blossomed within weeks into a $13.5-billion bailout. But once again, the taxpayers who must cover this — plus far more in compound interest, since the money must be borrowed — have and will have no way of knowing the total.

Government bailouts are unlimited, more or less by definition. For were a government to say, “You may have $13.5 billion, but after you’ve blown that in, you’re on your own,” it might as well say, “You may have zero.” Once the principle of fiscal accountability is abandoned, it is abandoned.

The political calculation is straightforward. The money is really going to save the seats of a few local MPs, at a cost of so many billion per seat for the next election. The joke is if they lose them anyway, we still have to pay.

Why The Fed Will Not Be Able To Prevent Higher Inflation

The View From 1776

As former Fed chairman Alan Greenspan admitted in post-meltdown testimony to Congress, no group of bureaucrats, no matter how intelligent or how well informed, can accurately predict the timing of economic turns or determine the correct theoretical equilibrium rate of interest.

With an economy as huge as ours, one with tremendous internal momentum, the Fed is in the position of a one-man row boat attempting to dock an ocean liner being pushed by heavy winds and strong tide. Even if the Fed honestly seeks to forestall inflation, its loose money policies have already built up well nigh irresistible inflationary momentum.

A mad, bad dictator dangerous to know

Times [UK]:

[...]

Politically, Mr Obama has tried the “open hand” – sending no fewer than four US delegations to Pyongyang this year – and learnt that the dictatorship is hard-wired to interpret conciliation as naivety or weakness. Mr Gates has dismissed nuclear blackmail as wholly self-destructive. Detailed policies must drive that tough message home. Ultimately the North Korean dictatorship understands only force.

Obama is a snaive as he is dangerous.

Israel fumes as Abbas uses US visit to undermine Netanyahu

Haviv Rettig Gur, THE JERUSALEM POST:

“What’s interesting about Abbas’s hardline position,” wrote the Washington Post’s Jackson Diehl, who conducted the interview along with a colleague, “is what it says about the message that Obama’s first Middle East steps have sent to Palestinians and Arab governments.”

While the Bush administration placed the onus for change in the Middle East on the Palestinians, Diehl wrote, the Obama administration had shifted the focus to Israel.

The upshot is that “in the Obama administration, so far, it’s easy being Palestinian,” Diehl wrote.

Under George W. Bush, the Palestinians knew that “until they put an end to terrorism, established a democratic government and accepted the basic parameters for a settlement, the United States was not going to expect major concessions from Israel,” wrote Diehl.

But Obama, with his repeated demands for a settlement freeze, “has revived a long-dormant Palestinian fantasy: that the United States will simply force Israel to make critical concessions, whether or not its democratic government agrees, while Arabs passively watch and applaud.”

CHENEY’S SUCCESS VS. PREZ

NY Post:

IT’S a lovely thing when the conventional wisdom proves to be so spectacularly wrong.

The entire Democratic Party, not to mention the media establishment, simply took as a given that suave, charming, effulgent, numinous President Obama would mop the floor with grumpy, truculent, sardonic former Vice President Dick Cheney. Yet, on almost every issue he has championed since leaving office, Cheney has won the debate or at least put the White House on the defensive.

From the closing of Gitmo and the placement of terrorists in domestic prisons to the release of the torture memos and the aborted release of prisoner-abuse photos, he holds the higher ground politically or in the polls or both.

Revealed: the best protection against cancer

By Jeremy Laurance, The Independent:

Boosting levels of vitamin D could cut the incidence of breast cancer by a quarter, bowel cancer by a third and it should be offered to the population as part of a public health drive, scientists say.

The finding is based on a review of 2,750 research studies involving vitamin D, sometimes called “bottled sunshine”, which show that taking daily supplements of the vitamin could do more for cancer prevention than a library full of lifestyle advice.

Vitamin D is made by the action of sunlight on the skin but the gloomy weather and long winter in countries north of 30 degrees latitude, such as the UK, means that a large part of the earth’s population is deficient between October and March.

The UN’s double standard on Israel and Sri Lanka

National Post:

If more proof were needed that the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) is a feckless, biased, intellectually corrupt haven for dictators and Islamofascists, the evidence was clearly on display this week. The UNHRC voted to affirm Sri Lanka’s right to self-defence from terror attacks launched against its citizens and territory by the Tamil Tigers. Indeed, the council went further, “condemning all attacks that the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) launched on the civilian population and its practice of using civilians as human shields.” Sri Lanka had every right to protect itself, the council concluded, even at the cost of an estimated 20,000 civilian Tamil lives since the beginning of May alone.

Why, then, when Israel seeks to do the same — protect its citizens and territory from rocket and terror attacks launched from Gaza — does the very same council accuse Israel of being a “genocidal empire?” No quarter is given for the way Hamas — every bit as much a terror organization as the LTTE — hides its rocket bases and ammunition caches in schools, apartments and hospitals and launches its attacks on Israel from behind innocent human targets so that if the Israel Defense Forces wish to retaliate it is impossible for them to do so without taking civilian lives.

Defending an Exceptional History

By Malcolm A. Kline, AIM:

Truly, now more than ever, students cannot let their education end with college graduation, particularly when institutions of higher learning are increasingly sacrificing bodies of knowledge for reams of interpretation. For example, too few graduates get to learn about America’s uncanny knack for dismantling its defenses before being forced into world conflicts by enemy attacks and her remarkable resilience in overcoming same.

In an astounding bit of serendipity, the percentage of the federal budget that the federal government devotes to defense was similar before both the Pearl Harbor attack of 1941 and the attacks of September 11, 2001-17 percent. Coincidentally, this is the share of the budget that the Obama Administration wants to bring defense spending back down to.

Erasing Jews from Jerusalem

By: Itamar Marcus and Noaz Cohen, FrontPageMagazine.com:

“Jerusalem is the religious, political and spiritual capital of Palestine – the Jews have no right to it.”
[Dr. Tayseer Al-Tamimi, PA Chief Justice of religious court]

The erasure and denial of 3,000 years of Jewish history in Jerusalem is integral to Palestinian ideology. Accordingly, Israel and Jews are said to have “no rights” to Jerusalem, and any contemporary manifestation of Jewish life and development there is labeled by the Palestinian Authority as “Judaization.” Jerusalem is presented as an exclusively Muslim and Christian city, with no regard for historical reality. Beyond this historical revisionism, the PA disseminates the libel that Israel is acting to expel Arabs from Jerusalem in order to further “Judaize” the city. Fabrications include PA accusations of Israeli destruction of Islamic and Christian sites, and repeated use of PA hate language, including references to a “criminal cultural massacre” to chase Arab inhabitants away. The Jerusalem libel is designed to evoke religious hatred by portraying Israel and the Jews as the enemy of, and threat to, Arabs and Islam.

This study by Palestinian Media Watch documents the recent intensification of the Palestinian Authority’s campaign of distortion, historical revision and hate incitement about Jerusalem, and denial of its integral attachment to the Jewish nation and history.

To be ‘gracious,’ &c.

By Jay Nordlinger, NRO:

I know this is ancient history by now — we are now in the Time of Sotomayor — but I’d like to glance back at President Obama’s Notre Dame speech. You remember: abortion. A big-deal speech and occasion.

Obama was given credit far and wide for being gracious. He was serene, civil, understanding. He called for lowered voices and mutual respect. His message, in effect, was “Can’t we all get along?” (which is Rodney King’s line, I realize).

Fine, fine. But it’s easy to be gracious when you are getting your way, 100 percent. Abortion-on-demand is high in the saddle. Partial-birth abortion. Federal funding. Everything. Embryo-destructive research, to boot. The pro-choice side has everything, and the pro-life side has not a crumb.

(As I usually do, I use each side’s preferred label. Please don’t write me. Thanks!)

Again, when you get things 100 percent your way, it’s easy to say, “Okay, let’s all be cool now.” The likes of Obama tell pro-lifers, “You get nothing — zero — but if you’ll just not bitch about it, we will be gracious toward you. You don’t want to be disruptive, do you? We don’t want raised voices, do we?”

Obama’s peace is something like submission — the submission of his opponents.

Can Holocaust Deniers Be Partners in Peace?

By Lauri B. Regan

I spent the past week reading the novel Night by Elie Wiesel with my 7th grade son. Mr. Wiesel is a Holocaust survivor who chronicled his experience as a Jewish teenager who barely survived the German concentration camps of Auschwitz and Buchenwald during the Holocaust. The disturbing nature of Mr. Wiesel’s tortuous reality made difficult reading for a thirteen year old; however, I am happy that my son had been assigned this novel.

The timing could not have been more fitting. President Obama had just met with Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu to discuss peace in the Mideast and the ultimate survival of the Jewish State of Israel.

What has been most disturbing to me since the election of Obama has been his outreach to Iran and the rest of the Muslim world and his disdain directed at Israel.

Stephen Harper and Israel: Not crass political calculation

Ezra Levant, TO Star:

At its convention this Sunday, the Canadian Jewish Congress will honour Prime Minister Stephen Harper with its Saul Hayes Award. It’s unusual for the CJC, many of whose members have long favoured the Liberals, to give an award to a Conservative Prime Minister.

But in Harper’s case, it’s well-deserved.

No world leader has been as clear as Harper has been in his support for Israel’s right to defend itself. Just weeks after becoming Prime Minister, Harper single-handedly stopped a surprise resolution at the Francophonie summit that would have scapegoated Israel for its war against the terrorist group, Hezbollah. And at the United Nations, Canada has stopped bowing to anti-Israel peer pressure. Now, we’re often the lone vote against anti-Semitic resolutions at the Orwellian UN Human Rights Council, while other democracies meekly abstain.

You would have to have a heart of stone not to feel some emotion over the rich, heady semiotics of a leftist female intellectual, awkwardly freighted with a train of royal dignities, climbing down from her pedestals of class, office and beauty to muck in amidst a sea of blood and oozing fat with a traditionally female household tool. Israel and the Axis of Evil

Caroline Glick , THE JERUSALEM POST:

North Korea is half a world away from Israel. Yet the nuclear test it conducted on Monday has the Israeli defense establishment up in arms and its Iranian nemesis smiling like the Cheshire Cat. Understanding why this is the case is key to understanding the danger posed by what someone once impolitely referred to as the Axis of Evil.

Less than two years ago, on September 6, 2007, the IAF destroyed a North Korean-built plutonium production facility at Kibar, Syria. The destroyed installation was a virtual clone of North Korea’s Yongbyon plutonium production facility.

This past March the Swiss daily Neue Zuercher Zeitung reported that Iranian defector Ali Reza Asghari, who before his March 2007 defection to the US served as a general in Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and as deputy defense minister, divulged that Iran paid for the North Korean facility. Teheran viewed the installation in Syria as an extension of its own nuclear program. According to Israeli estimates, Teheran spent between $1 billion and $2b. for the project.

It can be assumed that Iranian personnel were present in North Korea during Monday’s test. Over the past several years, Iranian nuclear officials have been on hand for all of North Korea’s major tests including its first nuclear test and its intercontinental ballistic missile test in 2006.

Moreover, it wouldn’t be far-fetched to think that North Korea conducted some level of coordination with Iran regarding the timing of its nuclear bomb and ballistic missile tests this week. It is hard to imagine that it is mere coincidence that North Korea’s actions came just a week after Iran tested its solid fuel Sejil-2 missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers.

On March 5, Marzieh Amirizadeh Esmaeilabad and Maryam Rustampoor were arrested by Iranian security forces and labeled “anti-government activists,” according to Farsi Christian News Network (FCNN).
Thirty year-old Marzieh and 27-year-old Maryam are being held at Evin Prison, which is notorious for treating women badly. “Both women are allowed just a one-minute telephone call everyday to their immediate families. Both are unwell and in need of urgent medical attention,” FCNN reported. During their last call on March 28, Mazieh said that she was suffering from an infection and high fever. She said, “I am dying.”
Marzieh and Maryam’s apartment was searched and their belongings were confiscated. “Their only crime is that they are committed Christians who follow the teachings of Jesus,” FCNN added. “They are being unfairly labeled as ‘anti government activists’ because of the hostility of the government towards practicing Christians.”
The women have reportedly been interrogated numerous times and were held in three different police detention centers before being sent to Evin Prison. FCNN reported an exorbitant bail amount of US$ 400,000 has been set even though Marzieh and Maryam’s families have been told on numerous occasions that a judge is not available to discuss the case.
Marzieh and Maryam’s arrest is the latest incident highlighting increased government intimidation of Christians in Iran. Believers are subjected to surveillance, arrests, imprisonment, and sometimes torture.

A Modern Witch Trial

Theodore Dalrymple, City Journal:

Men may be created equal, but not all murders are equal. Some are quickly forgotten, except by those immediately affected by them, while others—by no means always political assassinations—have a lasting political impact. Among the politically significant kind was the murder of Stephen Lawrence, a young black man, in a London suburb on the evening of April 22, 1993. Five or six white youths set upon Lawrence and a friend, Duwayne Brooks. One of the attackers supposedly shouted, “What, what, nigger?” immediately before Lawrence was stabbed to death. Brooks managed to evade the attackers, who ran away.

Despite considerable circumstantial evidence against several suspects, the perpetrators escaped conviction. The police investigation into the murder was a model of incompetence of the kind that every Briton now expects of our boys in blue. Over the investigation there also hung a pall of suspected corruption, for one suspect was the son of a rich drug trafficker who, on a previous occasion when his son stood accused of a stabbing, had tried (unsuccessfully) to bribe and threaten the victim into altering his evidence.

But the Lawrence murder took on a wide social significance because of its racial overtones. The botched investigation became a cause célèbre—the presumption being that racism alone could explain the police’s failure to bring the perpetrators to justice—and the government launched an official inquiry to “identify the lessons to be learned for the investigation and prosecution of racially motivated crimes.” There followed a festival of political and emotional correctness the likes of which have rarely been equaled. It would be impossible, at less than book length, to plumb the depths of intellectual confusion and moral cowardice to which the inquiry plunged. In 1999, it released a report of its findings that won almost universal praise despite its risible shortcomings.

Christian couple convicted for anti-Muslim booklets

A Christian Singaporean couple were found guilty of sedition on Thursday for distributing evangelical publications that cast Islam in a negative light, court officials said.

Ong Kian Cheong and his wife Dorothy Chan had been charged with distributing a seditious publication to two Muslims in October and March 2007 and sending a second such booklet to another Muslim in December that same year, a district court official told AFP.

The publications were found to have promoted feelings of ill-will and hostility between Christians and Muslims, the Straits Times said on its website.

The abduction and murder in Paris of a young Jewish man by a gang of Muslim immigrants calling themselves the Barbarians shocked the whole of France in 2006. But now that the accused are on trial – silence.

A French judge has ordered the latest issue of the magazine Choc (“shock”) removed from the shelves. The cover showed a man with duct tape completely covering his head, except for a small opening around his nostrils. His nose is bloody. His hands are also bound with duct tape.

It was a photo of Ilan Halimi, the 23-year-old Parisian Jew who was kidnapped and tortured for 24 days by the Barbarians. His captors took the picture and sent it to his family.

Israel’s Cuban Missile Crisis – All the Time

By Victor Davis Hanson:

Why would the Iranian government spend billions of dollars on trying to develop a few first-generation nuclear bombs (as nearly everyone believes is the case) when the country is so poor that it has to ration gasoline?

A lot of reasons have been offered by various experts.

Upon developing a nuclear weapon, states win instant prestige and attention beyond what they otherwise might have earned. Take away its bomb and North Korea would be in the news about as much as Chad.

Nuclear weapons also can change the nature of conventional warfare.

Israel’s Arab neighbors have not waged a full-scale traditional war against Israel since 1973 – in part because there is no longer a nuclear-patron Soviet Union around to threaten the use of nukes should Israel strike too strongly back against its aggressors.

But give Iran a bomb or two and it will be able to guarantee Hezbollah and Hamas – or a coalition of Muslim states – a secure fallback position if they attack Israel and lose.

World War III has started

Eitan Haber, YNet:

One needs to be deaf, blind, and an idiot at this time in order not to understand that the nuclear bomb tested in North Korea two days ago also exploded in the Prime Minister’s Office in Jerusalem.

The North Koreans blatantly disregarded the Americans and publically presented them as a meaningless power, yet officials in Jerusalem are still reciting the “Road Map” and making note of the evacuation of some minor West Bank outpost. The world is changing before our eyes, yet here we see Knesset members earnestly explaining that the Americans will agree that we stay in Judea and Samaria if we only evacuate some tin shacks.

Two days ago, in North Korea, World War III officially got underway – the war that would pit “crazy” states such as North Korea and Iran, for example, against states we shall characterize as “moderate,” including Egypt, Gulf states, and Saudi Arabia, which at this time leads the Arab initiative for peace with Israel.

Canada unfazed by fact that scheme is a costly failure in Europe

By LORRIE GOLDSTEIN:

As long as politicians keep misleading us about what a cap-and-trade carbon market is — yesterday it was Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty and Environment Minister John Gerretsen — I’m going to keep calling them on it.

And this isn’t just about Ontario. Canada is going to implement cap-and-trade. So is the U.S. It’s coming no matter where you live.

Yesterday, Gerretsen claimed cap-and-trade is an environmental program to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by industrial polluters. Bull. Cap-and-trade is an economic program run by governments to charge Canadians — not “polluters” who in fact get to pass along their costs, and more, to us — for something we’ve never been charged for before.

That is, the cost of emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere when energy is produced by burning fossil fuels.

Cap-and-trade shouldn’t even be announced by the environment minister. It should be announced by the finance minister.

It means charging us more for almost everything, not just electricity, as politicians pretend.

Yes, your electricity bill is going to skyrocket because of cap-and-trade and other reasons.
